  1. That's really good. So is its predecessor, possibly better

    BFT#220

Track 8. A piano trio on ECM. Not many of them and I have a lot of them. Do I start listing them... Marcin Wasilewski?

Track 2. Nice enough. Sounds a bit folky and American. I have no idea who it is but very happy to copy @@Dub Modal's suggestion of Marc Johnson Track 3. Enjoyed that, no clue who it is Track 4. Now this is right up my street, that fusing of Middle Eastern/Arabic instruments with trumpet. Emir ElSaffar comes to mind immediately and is my inclination. it's not Yazz Ahmed I don't think, too much Arabic instrumentation. Ibrahim Maalouf has left this behind a bit now, could be an early one of his but I don't think so. Trying to think of others. It sounds modern rather than examples recorded in 70s like Maffy Falay. Definitely want to know who this is Track 5. Here we go, it's that Billy Harper/McCoy Tyner vibe and no surprise hearing this on a Pim BFT I'll take a guess it's not recorded this century or if it is the leader recorded similar stuff 40 years ago or more. Drummer goes on a bit. Track 6. never a big fan of solo piano so this doesn't grab me too much. A wild guess, Jason Moran? Track 7. Craig Harris is my immediate response after 45 seconds. I'm completely sold on it and I hope someone IDs it quickly so I can track it down. Best track so far Track 8. I recognise this, sounds like an ECM. Is it Bobo Stenson? Although I'm not sure the drummer is Jan Falt so if it is Stenson it's an earlier one. I think I may well have this Track 9. Pleasant enough but leaves me a bit cold, I'm afraid Track 10. after 30 seconds, Go Go Penguin? I'll be back with thoughts on the remainder later. Nice selection so far

Is Track 1. Jay Hoggard, one of his Muse dates perhaps? I like it whoever it is

Thanks Pim, I shall listen over the next couple of days. I bet Mal's in there somewhere

    The Leaders

I know that but was wondering what made Guy Berger think they might be

    The Leaders

What makes you think the Cookers might be a successor band? I'm intrigued as there seems little to connect them that I know of
  8. Another interesting looking reissue from Mad About Records https://madaboutrecordslabel.bandcamp.com/album/the-four-sounds-jazz-from-district-six
  9. The Charlie Munro Quartet - Eastern Horizons [B-Free, Germany 2015 RE] I usually steer clear of this label as I'm sure its bootleg but somehow missed it on this purchase. Sounds good at least.

    The Leaders

That's about my take on both The Leaders and Freeman although I did see The Leaders live and they were a lot more energetic, and even adventurous in parts, than their recordings.
  11. I only discovered this recently when it was mentioned somewhere here on the death of Jean Louis Chautemps I know Jeanneau a fair bit and have come across Caron a couple of times but that's all for me. I enjoy the album
  12. Just dug out my 'Passengers' LP for the first time in ages because of this BFT. Sounding lovely.
  13. Bobby Hutcheson - Components [Blue Note, Liberty RP, 1967] Happy 80th Birthday Joe Chambers
  14. Dembo Konte & Kausu Kuyateh - Simbomba [Rogue Records, UK 1987] purchased a while ago after it was posted by the much missed @paul secor
  15. Now onto another from MHH label On Our Own Clock - s/t [Mushroom Half Hour/Total refreshment Centre, SA/UK 2021]
  16. Both are definitely interesting, both from SA as you've probably guessed. Mogorosi has an imminent release on Mushroom Half Hour which I predict will make some noise, both albums feature a choir, a bit 'Lift Every Voice' but not really. Works for me Spaza are a collective (isn't everyone these days) and their first self-titled is worth tracking down. Uprise! has lots of clips of dialogue and interviews interspersed with the music, from the film I guess. All about the anti-apartheid struggle in SA. Mushroom Half Hour is a label worth keeping an eye on for contemporary SA Jazz
  17. Tumo Mogorosi - Project Elo [Jazzman, UK 2014] Spaza - Uprise! (Music from the Original Motion Picture) [Mushroom Half Hour, South Africa 2020] One of my favourite MJQs
  18. I guess this probably isn't the time and place to say that 'Elegant Soul' is the only Three Sounds album I've heard and I really like it...
  19. Really like that album. I bought it after @JSngrysang its praises a few years ago
  20. I agree, I've never thought of M-base/JMT as fusion. A lot of that was early in my Jazz listening so maybe that's why it's just Jazz to me
  21. A good number I really rate too. Love to hear that Smoke album, I really rate their other one
  22. First thought, high prices for originals...cult label collector premium Will be back with some other, hopefully more useful thoughts, about titles. Until then, a couple of absolute winners in my view Gunter Hampel Quintet - Heartplants Fats Sadi - Ensadinado
