  1. Warming the cockles
  2. I had my own cancer operation last year and thought that was tough enough but nothing compared to what you've been through. I'm in awe of your resilience and determination. Here's wishing you all the best and great that you're able to play again too.
  3. "Give The Vibes Some" is on Palm and Soufflé Continu seem to be slowly working through reissuing that catalogue so I'm ever hopeful. We may get Baikida Carroll's "Orange Fish Tears" too, we can but live in hope
  4. Sapphire Symphony No.4
  5. Latin All Stars - Jazz Heat Bongo Beat [Eros, UK 1961]
  6. Here's an interesting career overview https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jan/11/james-mtume-hits-recordings-jazz-funk Looks interesting
  7. "Juicy Fruit" is s classic. Intetestingly, I have seen just as many online tributes quoting that and his dance oriented music as I have his Jazz contributions, possibly more. He was very highly regarded in that field.
  8. More the latter, enjoyed most of it.
  9. Enjoyed everything I heard him play. Another loss, 2022 can stop right now
  10. really enjoy that one
  11. I think it's precisely because they sound as you describe that I like them There's an element of almost academic rigour to their swinging and that's not meant as a criticism. All really rather serious. Bongo heat is definitely cutting through the greyness of the weather and work! I think I may have found my Buddy Collette album. I keep meaning to check out the one on Black Saint or Soul Note too. edit to add: just placed an order for 'Jazz Heat Bongo Beat'. I need this album in my life if only for grey Monday therapy
  12. 'A Nice Day' still sounds too pretty to me (I know, I'm sorry) so I'm taking some bongo heat now instead.
  13. Funnily I have tried to find a Colette album I enjoy as much as those Hamilton's he plays on which are absolute favourites. I did enjoy his 'Porgy & Bess'. I'm listening to 'A Nice Day' now to see how it fits these days
  14. Damn, that's a sad story that his death goes unheralded (if it is so) Those Silkhearts, the ECM. Important early Jazz listening for me.
  15. Wins all round then. Hope you're feeling fully recovered. Masayoshi Fujita - Bird Ambience [Erased Tapes, 2021]
  16. Beaver Harris 360 Degree Music Experience - Beautiful Africa [Soul Note, Italy 1979]
  17. That's a good album
  18. James Moody - Another Bag [Argo, 1962 Mono] just fabulous
  19. My order's in too, with the man himself
  20. Really? Honestly, I despair Cambridge Dictionary, cyber bullying "the activity of using the internet to harm or frighten another person, especially by sending them unpleasant messages:"
  21. Sent direct to your PayPal account. Thanks for all your efforts keeping this place going
  22. Completely agree. Discovered it last week. Excellent recording. I'm not sure that was really the point or at least how I understood it. It was a comment that she was simply being missed on the recordings front. Somewhat like your recent post listing particular players that you miss performing live music. Interesting that's she's now at Mills. I guess it's inevitable that recordings will be fewer for awhile as she concentrated on new priorities. Noticeably happened with Steve Lehman when he entered academia.
  23. Yeah very occasionally though I recall, I definitely remember him posting in one of the 'ECM, evil of the music world' threads.
  24. I like that Jamie Williams album, it intrigues me. Agree it's got nothing to do with Jazz. Irreversible Entanglements is great and the Ches Smith is good too.
