  1. Thanks for posting that link.I love his description of Motian "He’s pulling sound out of the instrument rather than playing at the drum set. He was pulling sound out of the drums by his touch, the attack, the dynamics"
  2. Works for me. One of my favourite musicians on one of my favourite labels. I watched that trio's livestream from the VV (I think) and they worked well together. Lots of nods to Motian, obviously.
  3. Max Roach Quartet - Nommo [Victor, Japan 1978] finally splashed on a copy. Worth the wait
  4. Great one. The Cyrille Black Saint/Soul Note box is 100% killer
  5. That's Yugoslavia for you
  6. Nice. What a triple bill that was!
  7. Yeah, shame that "unknown" and "mysterious" sells more than "well respected", I'm guessing
  8. darn that prune! revisiting some seldom played Gonzalez Dennis Gonzalez - Stars/Air/Stripes [Daagnim, 1982] Dennis Gonzalez - Witness [Daagnim,1983] Both well worth a listen. 'Witness' featuring @JSngry any memories?
  9. Sounds intriguing and fun. I never listened to Snarky P. I see it's streamable so that's me sorted
  10. and it just so happens that I'm now playing my entry point. Such a varied and interesting album this one... Jaki Byard - Freedom Together! [Transatlantic, UK 1968]
  11. Now that's a recommendation and a half, thanks. Over to Discogs I go... Jaki Byard - On The Spot! [Prestige, France RP]
  12. A man driving down a country lane who runs over a cockerel. he goes to the farmhouse and knocks on the door. A woman opens it and he says: “I appear to have killed your cockerel. I’d like to replace him.’ She replies: “Please yourself, the hens are round the back.”’ RIP Barry Cryer, comedy genius
  13. Lovely. Do you remember his response?
  14. Rambunctious. Twin trombone over rolling Tippett. Great fun and well worth a visit. One of the few Allen's I don't have. Should I rectify that?
  15. K. & J.J. - Israel [A&M/CTI, Germany 1978]
  16. Now playing... Nicra - Listen/Hear [Ogun, UK 1977]
  17. I was hipped to this album on this board (by felser, I think) so pleased to see an imminent reissue from a good label. No CD though (don't shoot the messenger) https://madaboutrecordslabel.bandcamp.com/album/jothan-callins-the-sounds-of-togetherness-winds-of-change?from=fanpub_fnb
  18. I couldn't agree more. I'm always going to give something with Sommer in a second look.
  19. It's on Spotify if you're that way inclined
  20. I have a chronic condition one of the symptoms of which is sleep disturbance, especially getting to sleep. I do a meditation/relaxation before bed every day and haven't touched caffeine in 15 years. It helps but not always. Also, hardly any alcohol, in fact one or two drinks leads to a lot more disturbance than several.
  21. Yeah, I have that. Haven't listened to it in probably a decade but remember good impressions. Thanks for the reminder All my CDs are boxed up so can't revisit it immediately.
  22. Zerang, yes! Saw him with the Brotzmann Tentet, would love to see him again
