  1. Thanks. I did plenty of Black Sabbath in my youth I had no idea that existed. I see from Discogs that there's only two Hill tracks, are they solo? How's the sound on it?
  2. First listen, lots to chew on
  3. Pat Martino - Live! [Muse, 1972]
  4. I thought the article read a little like a long advert for the "J Jazz" series but then maybe I'm feeling a bit cynical...and no mention of Togashi at all
  5. Masahiko Togashi - Rings [East Wind, Japan 1976]
  6. No, separate indulgence but not wintery in the slightest
  7. James Moody - Moody's Workshop [Xtra, UK 1967 RP]

    MICHAEL BRECKER

I loved that album and I'm not sure I knew it was Brecker. I may need to dig it out for a spin now
  9. I'm hoping Honest Jon's will stock it, they normally carry Sams. their own shop would be very dangerous and costly if it were in my district
  10. Warming the cockles
  11. I had my own cancer operation last year and thought that was tough enough but nothing compared to what you've been through. I'm in awe of your resilience and determination. Here's wishing you all the best and great that you're able to play again too.
  12. "Give The Vibes Some" is on Palm and Soufflé Continu seem to be slowly working through reissuing that catalogue so I'm ever hopeful. We may get Baikida Carroll's "Orange Fish Tears" too, we can but live in hope
  13. Sapphire Symphony No.4
  14. Latin All Stars - Jazz Heat Bongo Beat [Eros, UK 1961]
  15. Here's an interesting career overview https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jan/11/james-mtume-hits-recordings-jazz-funk Looks interesting
  16. "Juicy Fruit" is s classic. Intetestingly, I have seen just as many online tributes quoting that and his dance oriented music as I have his Jazz contributions, possibly more. He was very highly regarded in that field.
  17. More the latter, enjoyed most of it.
  18. Enjoyed everything I heard him play. Another loss, 2022 can stop right now
  19. really enjoy that one
  20. I think it's precisely because they sound as you describe that I like them There's an element of almost academic rigour to their swinging and that's not meant as a criticism. All really rather serious. Bongo heat is definitely cutting through the greyness of the weather and work! I think I may have found my Buddy Collette album. I keep meaning to check out the one on Black Saint or Soul Note too. edit to add: just placed an order for 'Jazz Heat Bongo Beat'. I need this album in my life if only for grey Monday therapy
  21. 'A Nice Day' still sounds too pretty to me (I know, I'm sorry) so I'm taking some bongo heat now instead.
  22. Funnily I have tried to find a Colette album I enjoy as much as those Hamilton's he plays on which are absolute favourites. I did enjoy his 'Porgy & Bess'. I'm listening to 'A Nice Day' now to see how it fits these days
  23. Damn, that's a sad story that his death goes unheralded (if it is so) Those Silkhearts, the ECM. Important early Jazz listening for me.
