  1. My box just delivered, also fulfilled by Squidco. Disc 1. playing now. Until now I've only dipped into the download copy so now starts the real listen.
  2. Thanks. just ordered the B&F 2CD, should have had it years ago, very remiss
  3. I can still remember that day I heard it for the first time, about 40 (ouch!) years ago. edit to add: does anyone know if the Blood&Fire reissue is still the best about or have more recent releases surpassed it?
  4. That's such a heart-warming gesture. I'm sure your friend will be bowled over
  5. That's brilliant, hope it's all up to snuff. I'll await reports from the front with anticipation. I don't really see anyone being fooled just folk making considered decisions as to whether to purchase or otherwise. Some are, and I'm sure they will be rightly chuffed others aren't and I suspect they will not regret it. Everyone happy
  6. Didn't know that about The Congos. That's some stardust sprinkled right there.
  7. Welcome back MG, nice to see 'breakfast with...' selections once again I don't believe so, not on the BC page at least. Its a nice document, not the greatest SQ, bit boxy
  8. Another true original and genius departs https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/aug/29/lee-scratch-perry-visionary-master-of-reggae-dies-aged-85
  9. I was about 5 years behind you. Think it was Rhythm Records by then? Jazz still downstairs.
  10. You've convinced me
  11. Thanks. Mythic status deserved by the sounds of things. Merlin's ha! I found a nice Shirley Scott in my only trip there, no added extras sadly. I've been wondering about. trip to Stranger Than Paradise, not sure I have the necessary Hackney attributes any more. I'm on their mailing list and their pricing's a touch rich too
  12. That's the way to do it
  13. Waiting for it. Her lockdown album with Dezron Douglas hit a spot for me too Edit: found it on Tidal
  14. That Hodges is a lovely cover. Also washed up at the seaside?
  15. There wasn't any vinyl out except on the walls when I went on my day off trip (this was some years ago). Combined it with a trip to the Putney Debates church nearby which was also disappointing. That's sarf of the river for you. I've never been to Alan's, it's almost reached mythic status!
  16. I wasn't invited into the back room...
  17. That's a trek. Only made it the once to find the LPs weren't on display, only CDs. I had to try and tell them what I was interested in so they could get them from the back room. They still do this?
  18. Of course it was going to get hyped, they want to sell it. Don't see the issue myself especially as this seems to be particularly good example of how to expand the available catalogue of an important musician. Be weird if they didn't big it up. It's for everyone to apply their own hype filter and be happy with their choice rather than snipe at other's choices
  19. If Charlie couldn't find the green shirt it doesn't bode well for me! Dave Green did a lovely little interview on Today in the week too
  20. Ah yes,I remember that discussion now. Let's hope they do a job in the Collier we can both enjoy. Any new Collier has got to something to be interested in
  21. Listened to Funky Donkey only last week for the first time in ages. Ragged would be my polite description. I think it gains disproportionate kudos for the funky elements. Having said that Lester B is great on it. I prefer practically everything else by the band, especially the Arista reissues, never scored an original.
  22. Ordered this new Collier. The label made a good first of their Westbrook from the same source https://myonlydesirerecords.bandcamp.com/album/british-conversations?from=fanpub_fnb
