  1. Check a couple of messages upthread for your answer to that
  2. One of his best songs 'On The Nickle'
  3. Which novel would you recommend to someone who hasn't read anything by him? 'Lonesome Dove' was the one most popular in my library working days.
  4. That Lehman is fine. I thought some of Steve Coleman's attempts to marry the genres worked. Then from the other perspective the use of Jazz elements by the likes of Gang Starr, ATCQ, Digable Planets, Common all worked well for me at the time, during my only real flirtation with hip hop.
  5. Now onto this with thanks to Peter Friedman for posting it earlier
  6. Such a great album
  7. I'm not sure it necessarily does. It could indicate that NHS staff were readily available, on site with the vaccine stores and therefore it made sense to double-dose them. However, given this government's woeful record I'm also awaiting a second-dose cock up.
  8. I know what he means but it wasn't an issue for me. I quite liked that it wasn't a combination of those disparate identities but a coming together of some elder statesmen who were prepared to use their own voice to create a whole that was different to each of their own more readily identifiable musical identities. Perhaps that means it's very much an ECM album but I'm not sure such strong personalities would do that unless they wanted to so I don't hear the evil hand of Manfred that some might. I also very much like the follow-up with Wadada
  9. I haven't looked for edge from Frisell for about twenty years, he's a comfy pair of slippers now. I'm listening to the album again and I'm enjoying it a lot maybe because ECM-ness has never been a barrier for me, more often a doorway. this looks interesting
  10. Yep, my parents have both had their second dose postponed. I work with older people and I only know a handful who have had the two doses within the timescale recommended by the developers. Having said that, I do agree that the government made the correct call (for the first time in this whole pandemic) to get as many first doses into as many arms as possible and not because it meant I got mine. When I booked my first dose, after contact from my GP, there was no option to book the second. The same for my partner. I was told at the centre that administered my first dose that my GP would be in touch about the second dose. I think the latest 'band' of beneficiaries are experiencing a different booking system to earlier bands who were largely called into their appointment by GPs. The 50+ group seem to have a more open self-booking system made available to them. Although I suspect there's considerable local variation. No matter what, it's been a very impressive effort (and no coincidence that no cronyism has been involved in the granting of contracts for the process)
  11. Yep, he has done just that. It's very apparent he understands that music. And Pharoah is just so Pharoah, that gorgeous tone
  12. My Harper arrived this week, unfortunately timed with my absence from my turntable for a fortnight. I'll just have to look at the lovely cover and imagine... Now in stock at Honest Jon's.
  13. Peter Tork Mork Mindy
  14. I hope you enjoy it. I'm a big fan of Floating Points and a bigger fan of Pharoah so it was either going to be a horrible disappointment or something rather special. I'm pleased I'm hearing the latter. I think Shepherd has composed something that shows his real understanding of the Pharaoh/Alice/Impulse legacy. I also think purists from both camps might not agree as it doesn't explore the outer realms of either genre but brings them together in the middle. Some will quite honestly see that as a musical compromise too far. I don't.
  15. Floating Points & Pharaoh Sanders - Promises Genius
  16. I love that album!
  17. That's a good release
  18. Completely agree about the Newton.
  19. I'll be watching that tomorrow, looks interesting
  20. I agree Pim. Happy to wait as it will sound the same whenever it arrives. It's not as if I don't have anything else to listen to...
  21. Louis Moholo Len Cantello Joe Lovano
  22. Lee Marvin Hank Marvin The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  23. BBE usually do digital, definitely stream on Spotify etc
  24. I like 'Cassandranite' well enough but Almarovid is absolutely wonderful. A different level from my perspective. And I've never heard it but will redeem myself asap on the back of that description
  25. Hope you both come through it soon
