  1. Really enjoyed from Elmhurst University Jazz Festival Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans Project presents Birth of the Cool
  2. Channelling the earlier ECM cover design, using Rainbow studio and Jan Erik Kongshaug, from 2015. inspired by the 'Ondas' discussion elsewhere. Very good indeed The follow-up ECM that never was Hutchfan? On Bandcamp here https://fwmrecords.bandcamp.com/album/beginning-and-end-of-knowing
  3. Nor me but my impression, and it's only an impression as I haven't looked anything up, is that ECM didn't make many recordings outside their favoured studios in those days (still only a small handful) so if he was back in NZ or Australia maybe Manfred couldn't find a studio he liked or couldn't be bothered to look
  4. Interesting, thanks. I'm tempted
  5. I didn't know that. Did Nock stay in Europe or go home I wonder.
  6. Just finished my first listen. Agree about the first track. Not too sure the rapper works in the context of the album either. Otherwise, very strong first impression.
  7. I'll be interested to know your feedback after living with it for a while
  8. Yes! One of my favourite ECM piano trio albums. Tends to fly under the radar I think
  9. Too right. Headphones this afternoon to avoid scaring the neighbours (and my partner as she worked)
  10. HJ had the DG reissue for a time
  11. the duet with church organ is extraordinary
  12. I'm even more happy to take the AZ after this week's published research from Public Health Scotland, "By the fourth week after receiving the initial dose, the Pfizer and Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines had reduced the risk of hospital admissions from Covid-19 by up to 85% and 94% respectively, according to a study by Scottish universities and Public Health Scotland. A mong people aged 80 and over, vaccination was associated with an 81% reduction in hospital admission risk in the fourth week, when the results for both vaccines were combined. The scientists, whose work is available online but has not yet been peer-reviewed, said the results from the two vaccines should not be compared. There was more data on people who were given the Pfizer vaccine, while the AstraZeneca vaccine had mostly been administered to older people." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/22/one-vaccine-protection-severe-covid-evidence
  13. In preparation for their weekend's 'Birth Of The Cool' concert
  14. Thanks for the tip, two artists I haven't treally listened to. After all these years, Leo's graphic design team is still as quaintly inept as it's ever been...shoestring exercise, I realise but it does make me smile. Similarly with FMR
  15. And tomorrow, one of the best live albums ever perhaps? Here now,
  16. Italian brass band project La Banda is one of my most memorable London Jazz Festival gigs
  17. So another day's work done and time to think of Italian musicians. Unfortunately I'm not with my collection so can't simply look at the shelves. I suspect these names have been mentioned upthread but Pino Minafra, Giorgio Occhipinti and the Italian Instabile Orchestra all featured heavily in my Italian phase. The orchestra is a great line-up to spin out of for people to investigate. Mario Schiano and Giancarlo Schiafinni are not to be missed. Roberto Ottaviano, Andrea Centazzo and his Ictus label and finally Stefano Battaglia's ECM recordings The best Italian album I have heard recently is easily this https://www.discogs.com/Schiaffini-Prati-Gemmo-Armaroli-Luc-Ferrari-Exercises-DImprovisation/release/11633667 This entire label looks expensively tantalising but it's on Spotify I think I bet most if not all of these are in the thread, maybe I should have read that first...
  18. That's a great album indeed. I'll put my mind to some other recommendations after work but you can't go wrong following Trovesi on Black Saint and ECM. Other name that immediately comes to mind is Carlo Actis Dato. And, the Splasch label. Back to work...
  19. I've just plunged off the back of your recommendation too, Steve
  20. Just found out from New World that a shipment of these is on its way to UK distributor Proper Music. Possibly of interest to European members too.
  21. Thanks to Joe in the New World Records thread Still mining that furrow? I loved those two too. how are they sounding today? The Rosewoman on Soul Note is worth a listen iirc. When I'm back with my collection I'm going to follow your lead HutchFan
