    Evan Parker

First they came for Van Morrison, then Evan Parker....two of my musical heroes. I knew of EP's Brexiteer views, he'd expressed them quite widely and he'd skated around his Covid views in a recent Vortex piece. I wish it wasn't so but there we are I sincerely hope so but these days I find nothing surprises me.
  2. All of them were important albums for me at the time, and the subsequent Coleman and Osby's. I was just discovering Jazz beyond the big names and those JMTs sounded like nothing in Jazz or elsewhere that I'd heard before but at the same time I could hear the hip=hop and funk influences that made an easier entry. It has to be said that the Jazz-rap experiments were very of their time and sound so now. I'd add Cassandra Wilson's albums on JMT to the list as well, especially the first three. I don't often revisit them and when I do find the Wilsons probably stand up best. Gary Thomas, whatever happened to him?
  3. I received an LP in six days, two of which were the weekend, from Japan today. Couldn't believe the speed.
  4. Placed my order. Picked up a very nice looking Jef Gilson to accompany it on its journey
  5. Great, I'm in. I really like the Sam Records' releases that I've heard. They present them well too Cue weeping and wailing about vinyl only...
  6. Mine's in the post. Sounds interesting
  7. Damn, didn't want to start the day with this news. Unlike others never saw him live, not sure if he ever played over here, but his recordings made a very big impact. Also loved the recent film. I'm separated from my collection but would definitely be playing the NYAQ box set today. Will have to see what Spotify has to offer instead. RIP
  8. RIP
  9. Loved them when they came out, early in my Jazz journey. Haven't listened to either in years but still buy Coleman albums without hesitation
  10. I've read listings from Japanese sellers that describe the stains as damp or humidity stains. I don't think I have ever bought a non-Japanese release from Japan. Certainly never seen similar stains on European or UK purchases and we drink a lot of tea
  11. The staining is created by the humidity I think
  12. I'd be very interested if anyone has a lead on the vinyl edition of 'Koan' Thanks
  13. Box is now on Spotify in the UK
  14. I share that opinion, on both. Two of my favourite Murray DIWs alongside the some others - the duet with Graves, the quintet with Newton and the Big Band date with Butch Morris. And, the bass clarinet album. In fact the DIW run was pretty good all round now I think about it. I do remember them being costly in the UK.
  15. Thank you. I shall definitely investigate
  16. About to watch it, after the rugby. Anything with Sorey for me. Intrigued to hear if they slip in. Motian tune...
  17. Prompted by the LP reissue appearing in listings recently? Thought long and hard and stuck with the CD not least as I don't how legit the The Roundtable issue is Lucky enough to see that band in London
