David Murray -Blues For Memo [Doublemoon] thought I'd join in with something more recent from Murray. This album really works for me and that includes Saul Williams' spoken word contributions. the great Craig Harris too

ECM website is announcing the death of Alperin at the age of just 61. https://www.ecmrecords.com/news He recorded many fine albums for the label. Particular favourites of mine are 'North Story', 'Wave Of Sorrow' and 'First Impression' but they are all worth a listen. The most strikingly personal definitely being the solo 'At Home'

Also, the linked duet with Pauline Oliveros is something very special

The Great Murray Hoovering. I did exactly the same, chasing down the DIWs and buying anything with his name on and then...the cooling. Only recently have I revisited some of his catalogue prompted by the purchase on a whim of the fairly recent 'Blues For Memo' which I enjoy a lot. I find the earlier India Navigation and Circle sessions easier to listen to now Maybe time to try Shakill's Warrior again. thanks for the nudge I listened to that only last week. Very nice indeed

well you were a pretty hip pre-teen. I blow hot and cold with him but will always respect anyone who can write 'Alison', 'Shipbuilding' and 'Stamp The Earth Down' amongst others

Great programme, completely over the top in an almost operatic fashion at times. Driven by strong characters and acting, story lines that stretch credibility (rooted to varying degrees in historical accuracy) but has a hell of a narrative drive. All the actors mentioned by Brad are indeed superb but so too are those in the supporting roles. It's often compared unfavourably to Boardwalk Empire over here (another great series) but I think that misses the point somewhat. It's certainly changed many perceptions of Birmingham. Red right hand! and I guess you could blind someone with your pinky but not as efficiently as with those razor blades

Sometimes, like when I read posts like this, I just know I was born ten years too late That shop had definitely gone by the mid-80s when I was strolling around Camden on a regular basis looking for obscure rock, best characterised as Indie I guess. The very first stirrings of Jazz interest at the time took me to a couple of market stalls and the shop on the bridge which had Jazz down the spiral staircase and whose name completely escapes me (possibly to do the the effects of other recreational activity at the time). Looking agan at that photo I wonder whether its's the same shop under an earlier guise

And I remember the entire CD reissue series lined up on the wall of Ray's Jazz...picked them all off to have a good luck, I didn't buy any and to this day I can't remember why not Hope you enjoy the reacquaintance, it's a fine session.
