Thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks for posting. really made me want to investigate CT's music further, especially his solo playing

Made my first ten easily. Looking at a possible next ten, does anyone have any views on Simon Nabatov or Frank Gratkowski titles listed?

I'm in for no.26 alone. Haden plays Nelson. Intriguing

Was in the Hepworth today funnily enough - with my two year old boy - while we were there we were filmed by somebody doing a promotional thing for something to do with art galleries (can't remember...) I had to point at a sculpture and say something to Joseph, pause for ten seconds and move on. Messed it up twice. Don't they say never work with children and animals.... I'm really looking forward to visiting the Hepworth - favourite artist in what looks like very sympathetic surroundings. I'll keep an eye out for the film

Yes!! Though I've never sampled the sandwiches... Jumbo is still great, Relics down the road has recently re-opened after being shut for a while Sounds like I've found what else to do when I visit Hepworth at Wakefield - LP shopping in Leeds with good sandwiches! Thanks lads

Saw Disposible Heroes of Hiphoprisy (the name itself was almost enough) a few times - great live experience. Then followed onto Spearhead but began to feel he was losing his bite a bit, which i'm sure he wasn't but my tastes were diverging from his output. I'm glad to hear he's still making good and presumably intelligent (for he was always so) music - bet the current socio-political situation gives him much to deliver on

The Thirteenth Assembly - Staion Direct excellent playing but particularly good writing from all four - Ho Bynum, Fujiwara, Pavone, Halvorson - some real tunes (yes, tunes) on this one. Fujiwara stands out for me - a very melodic drummer. Recommended to anyone who likes any of the players individually or anyone with ears open to some melodically infused contemporary improvising (and writing). Purchased at an excellent London gig this week

Strange that this has never had a CD release. Anyone know why? 'fraid not. There seems little rhyme nor reason why a bunch of the earlier ECMs have never made it. Guess we'll have to await Mr Eicher's reply....the vinyls sound very good, mind. It is indeed a fine session

I enjoyed it. But I'm no expert on these things. Heh heh. I'm just downloading it, so I'll tell you your opinion once I know what it should have been! That would be very helpful! I know that I'm not supposed to like Vandermark but am allowed to 'admire' Guy. Hey! I haven't told you what to think yet! Oh, but others have! don't listen to 'em Bev. Enjoy and admire Vandermark, he's worth it (even if the purists think otherwise). Somewhat confused though, have they rereleased Fox Fire on Impulse? What's the other album on the twofer?

Decoy are storming. Decoy + McPhee? Just go, it is THAT good. I was lucky enough to be at the gig that was recorded Hope to make the new Quintet gig and maybe Convergence - two nights on the trot, will be interesting Now those Oxford gigs with WLS sound very interesting indeed...space being watched very closely Enjoy the duet with Moholo-Moholo. can't wait for the recording..... -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
mjazzg replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Christian Wallumrod Ensemble at Kings Place. Magnificent mix of lower case improv, baroque brass chorales, norwegain folk/church music and not much jazz. Shouldn't have worked but did so to produce an absorbing and intense listening experience -
Jazzloft still showing in stock this morning - whether or not they have copies....
-
to be followed by today's other new acquisition except mine's yellow text on white Nessa edit: to apologise to excessive image size on the levin!

inspired by and somewhat different to the current quartet's concert on bbc iplayer at the moment.

Just to echo Allen's comment - this thread is just such an entertaining and informative read - such knowledge worn so lightly and shared so informatively. I'm off to listen again to much of the music mentioned and to hunt down others that I haven't heard previously. As for the eventual project - it should be marvellous with this seedbed of ideas - can't wait

Happy Birthday to you. thanks for all the inspiring 'vinyl spinning' posts. Hope there's some birthday sounds on the deck today

some very good playing by younger UK band - Mark Hanslip, Matthew Bourne, James Allsopp amongst them. Interesting compositions by Riaan Vosloo. Third of a trilogy and possibly the best
-
Cleaver is a monster, although his last solo album on FSNT left me a little cold. me too. hobbled by its ambition I thought

Mine arrived in UK just 5 days after I ordered it! The Nessa elves are indeed on overtime. great music. So fresh and incisive. My first real exposure to Fred Berry - need to hear more
