Exciting new Tippett release, From Granite to Wind. Studio recording from earlier this year. here's the Ogun blurb "Ogun is extremely proud to present a new jazz suite by the internationally acclaimed composer, arranger, improviser and pianist Keith Tippett. From Granite To Wind marks the debut of Tippett's new Octet, which features both old and new collaborators including Mujician's Paul Dunmall, and former Tommy Chase Band saxophonist Ben Waghorn. A continuous performance, "From Granite To Wind" is an evolving flux of different forms and colours, reinterpreting elements of the great jazz tradition through Tippett's idiosyncratic musical language." Anything new by KT is worth investigating in my book

Claude Delcloo/Arthur Jones - Africanasia [bYG] Didn't know about that one, so thanks for posting. Enjoy many of their others. Off to hunt it down, now

another jazzloft fan here. i failed to find the equivalent gatefold sleeves in UK/Europe so bit the bullet on their postage

I just heard he's in the UK in November. He's with Dave Virelles (piano) and Kassa Overall (drums) according to the Turner Sims (Southampton) brochure. Yep, got my ticket for London already. Thanks for the line-up which is intriguing as I've only ever seen Five Elements before. Mind you, i'd happily attend whatever the line-up. New album on Pi on pre-order

love that LP

great ride by Evans today. He's riden a very impressive tour, knowing that if he came out of the mountains on par with the climbers he'd take the Tour in the Time Trial. His efforts to stay with the Schlecks in the Alps were the rides of a champion. He had no need to attack himself but just to match anyone else's. worthy wearer of yellow tomorrow

A stone classic. and a new purchase so I'm happy!

Aha! I was wondering whne Le Tour 2011 thread would start... Looks like Schleck laid down a marker today. Considering his poor showing on the descent in stage 16(?) this is a turnaround, although he and his brother were always going to come into their own in the mountains. Evans appears well placed and poised, Contador's taken a bit of a knock today. it's been a fascinating day. I'm rooting for Voeckler to somehow hang in there (especially since Wiggins isn't there for my patriotic support) - loved his quote about a descent where he went off-road- "Imountain biking is not my speciality". Seeing as he's only got 15 seconds' he needs to become a mountain biker pretty soon - overnight really I've enjoyed this year so far and I hope it goes as far as possible before the winner emerges. My heart says Voeckler, my head Evans

another vote from me for the Lindberg Also the recordings with Braxton on Hat Art and their duo on Moers (possibly vinyl only). Increasingly recently I've been thinkng that any appearance by Lewis is a fair indicator of quality. I've not got around to the duo with Leandre on Rogue art and really must I'm also intrigued by his latest anyone have any opinions yet?

How do you associate a 1950s drink with 70s instrumentation and production values? i suspect for the same reason I do. Martini TV adverts were a dubious 'highlight' of 70s viewing in the UK - 'anytime, anyplace, anywhere' - Joan Collins, Leonard Rossiter, spilt drink. traffic dodging waiters.... and we're not talking classy cocktail here, either

Great thread, Bev, thanks for starting it. Just the area i've flirted with but never jumped right in but now with the collected O-wisdom I'm all for leaping Big vote for Vinicius from me too. Marvellous singer, songwriter and great live, if you get the chance but not sure I recall too much fender rhodes action on the albums I have but maybe others do have that jazzy-fusiony vibe you're after. and btw when have you had any sunny days recently? Strictly Sou'westers in London town

I'm sold...if only on the strength of the first one PM on its way

yeah, bought from him previously - very friendly too. The Haunt - by name and nature

Now that does sound interesting. I bet copies of that don't appear often, in whatever condition. As I thoroughly enjoy Naughton;s Understanding I think I need to investigate currently spinning

You've found a fun and stimulating place to be. and I'll add some appreciation for both Clifford Thorntons, the real one and the virtual_one who's post i regularly appreciate is this the start of a new trend - board member appreciation threads? Could outstrip the "covers with..." threads in popularity -

Maybe Bennie ditches the flares for shorts on the back cover? Still concerned that those strides are going to get awfully oily
