  1. It is and I'm tempted to say "organic" as per our last discussion in which she appeared. It's fundamentally more of the same, a bit more song based rather than concept based, which I took the last one to be. Small group of musicians, some lovely singing. Terrific track with her parents singing. I find it quite joyous and life-affirming but then I'm in much need of that at the moment so may not be the same for others. It might be one that appeals as I think you thought the last was a bit studied, I may be misremembering that bit. I'm pleased I booked for the Barbican show in the autumn sometime. I want to be in the same room as that voice. Now onto: TTT - 'Butch In Hackney' [private press, Germany date unknown]
  2. Yes of only as downloads on BC but that would be a big job given the size of the catalogue. I guess there's lots of CDs in a store room in Spain still.
  3. Ganavya - Nilam [Leiter Records, Germany 2025]
  4. That Iskra 1912 has been on my Discogs wantlist for ages without a UK seller coming along. 'Transitions' looks interesting and 'Earth' I may still have but haven't played for ages so much so I'd forgotten MN is on it
  5. Maggie Nichols & Mark Wastell - 'And John' [Confront Recordings]

    Anthony Braxton

    Yes!!!!
  7. Well her new release of standard with Geoff Eales sounds very intriguing. Try her with Schweitzer and Leandre in Les Diaboliques. I saw them live and it was one of the most uplifting improv gigs ever, genuinely fine use of humour. A different tack, try 'And John' with the ever wonderful Mark Wastell on Confront Recordings. Then with Keith and Julie Tippets there's the fabulously titled 'Mr Invisible and the Drunken Sheila's...' on FMP An early Leo Records with Peter Nu too Some of the most joyous and engaging live vocals I've seen were her with Julie T as the vocal section in a Louis Moholo-Moholo big band gig. They just had such fun. She's the antidote to po-faced improv. I don't get everything she does by a long chalk but when I do I love it. She's at Oto with the standards group soon, I'm seriously tempted I forgot this one, excellent https://www.discogs.com/master/3266284-Maggie-Nicols-Matilda-Rolfsson-Mark-Wastell-Semiotic-Drift Also, her work with SME, Oliv etc
  8. This is an intriguing choice by Mosaic, I can see myself buying this
  9. I saw their first UK gig at the time of the first album, no coin throwing that I can remember
  10. I can think of two London shops that have claimed to have had chunks of Moore's collection for sale at different times, no reason to doubt them
  11. Possibly The Woodentops for me Lowther plays local to me quite regularly, I really should go and see him
  12. I kind of agree. My copy survived the last purge but I'm not sure it will do next time

    Alex Paxton?

London based, Oto semi-regular attendee but very regular viewer of their programme, occasional NMC purchaser/listener and I have never heard of the bloke until this discussion.
  14. Want to sell one...at a less crazy price of course!
  15. Bargain! David Mossman founded The Vortex which is where I first saw the trio
  16. That is such a great album
  17. Glad you got to see them and they lived up to expectations
  18. That's a great shame, I enjoyed listening to his music
  19. Lovely album, great band
  20. Tina Brooks - True Blue [Blue Note/Music Matters, USA 2008] Arrived today, sounds amazing, beats the Mosaic I think
  21. The most hyped new release rather than reissue from Japan in ages it seems. Good to hear a sober analysis which is positive. I will get round to hearing it
