  6. http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/kats-report/2013/apr/13/quincy-jones-80-still-celebrating-birthdays-not-re/ "At age 80, Quincy Jones is a legend-at-work, not a legend-in-retirement. Jones is in a celebratory mood this weekend. He and Sir Michael Caine, who shares a March 14 birthday, are the twin towers of legend at the 17th annual Keep Memory Alive “Power of Love” gala at MGM Grand. The silent and live auction, dinner, and series of live performances are to raise money and awareness for theCleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Produced by Bill Edwards Presents, the show is airing live on AXS TV at 9 p.m., with the rebroadcast set for 6 p.m. Sunday. In an update to the previously reported broadcast information, Cox Cable Channel 14 (Vegas TV) is planning to air a two-hour version of the show next Saturday at 8 p.m."
  7. Finally catching the last set by this group; they sound pretty good. between sets, charette remarked that response to this ensemble was very good, but that he personally wasn't sure of it. he also said that he didn't need acclaim and solo space, stating that he just wanted to make good music.

  13. the monday moffett sets followed by the hoenig trio featuring ken werner made one of the finest musical evenings i've heard in several years. ari just lets them go. hoenig's trio sessions with werner, pilc, or uri caine are NEVER to be missed. moffett's deep emotional flights remind me often of an early 70s miroslav vitous.
  14. moffett kept the selections short, and focused, and provided variety.
  15. chicago drummer mike reed is a co-owner and cofounder, i believe.

  17. MOFFETT'S BASS REMINDS OF THE EXCRUCIATINGLY BEAUTIFUL MIROSLAV VITOUS BASS OF EARLY 70S-80S. I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF IT'S THE SAME BASS, OR AT LEAST MODEL.
  18. my first boyhood crush, from the mickey mouse club. closing theme, from the mickey mouse club afternoon tv show.
  19. http://www.ibtimes.com/roger-ebert-day-film-criticism-died-movie-critics-death-symbolizes-end-profession-1175149 "Ebert was the last of a now-extinct breed: a professional movie reviewer whose opinion actually mattered -- not mattered in a Rex Reed sense, where calling Melissa McCarthy a hippo can nab some headlines and rile people up on social media, but mattered in the spirit of public intellectuals like Jean-Paul Sartre, who believed his chief duty was to observe the world and speak out in accordance with his own conscience. If that type of conviction still exists, it’s been drowned out by Rotten Tomatoes, online trolls and the comments section on Comingsoon.net. Crowd-sourced criticism is calling the shots now,........"
  20. the smalls audio archives have 5 performance dates ranging from late 2008 to dec. 29, 2011. i didn't see any performances scheduled for the next few months.
  21. solo bass concerts are my thing-can't wait-----to heck with ncaa finals. "That being said, as always we have a great week for you starting with an amazing double bill on Monday night. At 7:30 PM we have a rare appearance from the legendary Charnett Moffett, who will be performing a solo bass concert at the club. This will be an unusual concert and one you shouldn't miss. I'm curious to see what Charnett will bring to the table. Following Charnett is Ari Hoenig who has the truly amazing Kenny Werner on piano along with another bass virtuoso, Johannes Weidenmuller. Kenny has been a major force on the jazz scene and also a great teacher to many, including myself. He was my first real jazz piano teacher back at the conservatory days and unlocked many of the mysteries of harmony for me. Come out to hear these great musicians." hoenig lets his guest musicians go wherever they wish. this should be awesome with kenny.

  24. http://www.vice.com/read/neither-big-nor-easy-new-orleanss-war-on-music "While running for mayor of New Orleans, Landrieu continued to pay lip service to the cultural economy, and when he was elected in 2010, he created the Office of Cultural Economy. But his policies are playing out differently than the arts community imagined they would. Soon, his administration began to enforce many previously-ignored law, which helped to kill off nightclubs like jazz staple the Funky Butt and Donna’s brass band club, both on Rampart Street in the French Quarter. Landrieu also moved to decrease the presence of traditional brass bands in the French Quarter and on Frenchmen Street. The city made the Circle Bar—which had harbored “illegal” music since 1999—cease live entertainment for months while it acquired the correct permits, then went after Bacchanal, a popular outdoor jazz spot. One night during peak business hours, Bacchanal was invaded by NOPD’s Quality of Life officers, the Fire Department, and the Department of Health. Shit got so intense that Mimi’s in the Marigny (which had hosted “illegal” music seven nights a week since Katrina) voluntarily halted its bands and DJs."
