  9. i loved focus for 5 or 6 years when it was new; then i couldn't stand it. tenor man ernie krivda recorded a notable note by note interpretation at severance hall, titled focus on stan getz which is very listenable. no matter what i think of the getz focus recording, i will forever love this one segment.
  10. the cd version of the mickey one film soundtrack is one of the most sensitive and seemingly schizoid collections ever. it was recorded only days after getz' fathers death. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jrRUg4pvQns

Country Music Hall of Famer George Jones, a master of sad country ballads whose voice held the bracing power, the sweetness and the burn of an evening’s final pull from a bourbon bottle, has died after an illness that hospitalized him since April 18. He was 81, and was often called the greatest male vocalist in country music history. “He is the spirit of country music, plain and simple,” wrote country scholar Nick Tosches."

  15. Anyone who loves out-there and experimental music, here is a bill we're proud to have put together. We were able to get Tatsuya and a special guest who play together often in Europe on a rare U.S. tour. Because of certain "travel" issues we can't tell you his name but the initials are M.D. and if you check Tatsuya's websitehttp://www.hhproduction.org/TATSUYA_NAKATANI_WORKS.html) ....you should be able to figure out who it is. Also on the bill are two of Columbus' most experimental musicians, Ryan Jewell and Ben Bennett, playing both solo pieces and as a duo. And, for those who attended the last O.S.S. show, we are happy to present again, the collective improvisation ensemble I not 1. This group has a really open, circulating kind of energy and creates some perfectly odd spaces. Hope to see you out there, next Sunday. We will try to be wrapped up no later than 11 for those who have work in the morning. 1st set starts promptly at 8, please come for all of it but know that the feature (Tatsuya w/M.D.) is not to be missed.
  16. thx. this looks like interesting listening.
  17. evan parker's limited edition solo album with recorded bird song shows a beautifully sensitive side of evan parker heretofore unknown to me. it remains one of my all time favorite recordings. i know of no more fitting tribute to the late steve lacy than this.................
