  2. amazing invention. with all the tunnels they have over there, this really keeps the swiss broom industry afloat. and should they fail their function, they can come in quite handy. (shut up couw, that's not funny.)

the swoosh gets in the way. heheheh. if this is a normal tremoloe effect then I really wonder why I have never heard anything like it before. this does sound cool, if it were the soundtrack to Forbidden Planet that is, which it obviously is not. ah well, I knew it was just me. I'll further adjust my ears & expectations and enjoy it even more than I already do.

  7. ah, but that only applies if you are seeking another return of the son of st. germain, which this album will certainly not deliver.- those are the weak tracks on this album IMHO. cut those out and you are left with a very nice album indeed.
  8. I believe Tokyo Encore may rather have some of the original outtakes from those two Tokyo sessions. Originally these produced the albums Landscape and Besame Mucho. The Galaxy box has an additional 5 tracks besides those listed for Tokyo Encore.
  9. the label Wewerka has an own website here: http://www.wewerka-online.de/ go to "catalogue/artists" and continue to the "jazz collection." There is no specific order form (only for downloads) and I had some problems when there were no replies to my emails. In the end I called them up to place an order. A fax might also do the trick. Their contact page says they can provide a contact address for any country. The Bastards have been carrying it as well, but it seems to be temporarily out of stock, link. Their price beats that of Wewerka, especially when considering the current exchange rate.

A kind boardmember sent me a dub of the 24bit reissue of the Mighty Mike Cuozzo disk on Savoy and I am sad to report I still hear swooshing on Eddie's vibes sound. Not as irritatingly so as on the 1993 Savoy Denon CD, but it's there. I've listened to both disks on various set ups and have other people judge as well, so I doubt it is my system or my ears. It sounds like the effect you get on cymbals when the tape heads are not properly aligned, though the effect is only on the ringing notes of the vibes AFAI can hear it. As it is both on the 24bit as on the older CD version and as it is the first time I hear it on any Savoy Denon disk, I wonder where the misaligned machine is in the lineage (if there is one). Is there any information on the tapes used for these CD reissues? And can someone please please tell me they hear it too...

slurping allowed? Sure. You can even drink from the saucer, if you like. I'm in! I need to play the LeSage/Ross Quartet soon again anyhow, it might as well be pronto!

  20. just play Cheesecake 50 times in a row.
  21. Nothing much, considering the Galaxy era produced some uniformly excellent music. Also the personnel is nothing extraordinary as -- besides the strings album and the duets with George Cables -- all of the Galaxy output is in quartet format (or quartet plus guitar on Winter Moon). This album is a typical representative of this small group excellence. It has Tommy Flanagan on piano, which is a nice touch, and Red Mitchell on bass. Billy Higgins is on drums like on much of the 1979 output.
