I would really urge everyone to partition their harddisk and have your data in a separate partition. You can then simply format the partition that has the operating system without having to worry about your data. Of course regular back ups are always a good thing.

Turning off System Restore will delete all previous restore points. You must create new restore points once you turn System Restore back on. The idea of disabling system restore when getting rid of a virus is that by restoring you may well reintroduce an infected file and there is no gain in that.

Spybot Ad Aware do a search on the things that pop up, you may need a patch for AdAware to enable it to get rid of the stuff. There are a bunch of tech support forums out there that can help you out. a google search of that cashback thing you noted, led me to this for example.
