  1. Couw, the brother of the trumpet player that irritates so much so many people around here is the player on that tune. He is more interesting than his brother but his solo falls well beyond the composer's one on the original session. hey cool, never bothered to check him out I'm afraid. Nice to hear him here. BTW, how come you don't have the answers to the real "mind-messers" like 2, 3, and 12?
  2. this is a very nice set of disks, a lot of very recognisable stuff (tunes, players) that I have a hard time to pin down. track 1. "Cotton Tail." This sounds rather modern. I have no idea who's singing here, nor who's playing. Big fun for starters. track 2. absolutely certain I know the tune, associate it with Jackie Mac somehow. I'll have some sleepness nights and then it will come to me. And what's that quote the first tenor plays? It leaves the impression of a get together of the greats (is that Joe Henderson?). Track 3. and another one I am certain I know, I probably even have this one. More later... (grmbl...) Track 4. Sounds like Brownie. Not something I have, I think. The Vogue Paris sessions? Track 5. sounds like J.J. Haven't got a real clue though. nice tune, nice playing, nice. The trumpet rings some familiar bells as well. Track 6. pretty piano, and pretty old stuff is my guess. Not my strength, but very enjoyable and nicely whack with the complete mess up of the mood half way through. if I could only name that classical tune he plays with, very nice. Track 7. guess what? couw is not impressed by this Miles Davis wannabe. Track 8. Lester Leaps In, battle of some saxes, how many are there? four? I think I recognise raw & raspy Lockjaw Davis, but his hard and fast pal Griffin seems not to be present (?). Track 9. very nice, no clue though. couw is not very good at this ancient stuff. enjoys it nonetheless. Track 10. solo piano that gets a bit too romantically cute at times for my tastes. I would wager a guess that we're listening to Montoliu here, he needs to be on here somewhere. Track 11. familiar tune (again), this time the first tune on a classic album, so that helps. A little AMG search brings me to the album this is taken from and I see there are 5 tenors involved. The task will be to pin them down I guess... Track 12. argh, another one I know and cannot put my finger on. damn you Agustín! Track 13. Love this singer. I hope that feeling is mutual. Track 14. more ancient stuff, more very nice, more no clue... This one will keep me on my toes for some time yet as I am sure there are some tracks that just need that little "click" upstairs in couw's head. I am just gonna post this now though and hope someone has already done the honours and will releave me of this pain. Thanks for a very nice BFT Mr. A.P.G.

    ERIC DOLPHY

Looks like a Dodo bird. turkey strangling is what a friend of mine calls it when a player strangles his horn with his fingers moving up and down the keys like thunder, producing a sound like that of a turkey being strangled. Dolphy is the master.

  5. Portugal just beat Spain 1-0, many chances on both sides. Great game. Russia beat Greece 2-1. Greece equal to Spain in points but ahead on goals. Portugal and Greece to the quarterfinals.

  10. not familiar with those Germans I'm sorry to report. Did find out about another German trombone player just these days though. Ancient one I am afraid, haven't found out much about him yet, need to search a little still. Anyhow, Hubert Katzenbeier leads (on trombone) a session which is featured on one half of a GDR LP from 1972. Pretty wild stuff there in an inside/ouside with hip support kind of way. Three extended tracks spread over one side of an LP, rather cool with an alto/flute in support of the trombone and some "wait and see" playing besides the wicked rhythm changes of the first track. Pleasant surprise. (nothing to help your thread, sorry...)
  11. In all fairness he only got a yellow card for it. It was only because he already had one that he was sent off. The Swedish commentator thought the second yellow card was a bit harsh, but not necessarily wrong. I would have to watch a replay to be sure of what really happened there. watch again my friend, the swedish commentator was wrong. Nedved tricked the world and shat on fair play. Utter Schwalbe. If a card then for Mr Nedved and make it red. Better to haunt this kind of shit than to honour it. The Italians would never win again, but who cares...
  12. somehow eastern Germany is way ahead of the rest of the world on this one. We had our "Männertag" some time ago, on jesus-go-to-heaven-day to be precise. We get tot drink a lot and our wives/female friends tend to support that behaviour. I'm all for it. This daddy day is nice, but doesn't quite allow the guys their day as it reminds them of their duty as a dad a lot. Gotta love them marxists.
  13. looks like brownie was partial to the czechs tonight!
  14. no way brownie, no way. Just for the theatre of Nedved they should be banned. In such a game, where there is so much such good football and so much such incredible fairness, a dirty shit trick like this should be haunted down. It was totally uncalled for to show the poor guy the red. Totally. Italian shit by Nedved there, not like I know him, not at all. Very bad form. Of course the arbiter was NOT on top of things in this WAY fast game, nowhere near and in the end it shows. Crap to be sure. Let's hope the Dutch get through. They were the better team today, inspite of brownie's wishful post telling us they were not.
  15. Came to 2-2, no problem yet, but then there was a red card through a typical schwalbe. Fuck Nedved. Absolutely uncalled for as the whole game was very fair. The dutch were better throughout. I think, for whatever that's worth. May the Czechs level the Germans and the Dutch LEVEL the Latvians BIG time, then justicy will be. And may Nedved BURN
  16. no dutch win. an undeserved czech win instead. nedved should burn in hell for his "schwalbe."
  17. great game, this is fun AND good football to watch! many risks taken on both sides.
  18. Latvia - Germany: 0 - 0.... ouch. those Latvians showed they have some qualities on the basis of which they are participating in this tournament. The Germans could not find a way through their concrete defense. Playing like the Germans used to play for ages (defend, defend, defend, score through counter attacks), Latvia almost even beat the German team. They could have through one of the 3 penalty kicks they didn't get...
  19. originally released on VeeJay with following cover: (the gigolo and the big feet)
  20. RVGs are sold as "nice price" disks and at under 10$ a disk, I wouldn't say they are too expensive.

  23. the pic linked cannot be displayed on this forum, as there is no valid extension to it. Apparantly mikeos is using a yahoo photo thingy that uses dynamic pages and those can be linked but not displayed here.
  24. could you please correct the syntax error in the title of this thread. It makes my mind wander in all kinds of different avenues whenever I see it on top.
