I'm sorry I can't help you out. I have always enjoyed the BN/UA collection and the album w/ Dolphy, so am curious what else is out there as well, especially also considering the long gap between the UA and the Steeple Chase stuff. Besides on Cecil Taylor's album, did he appear anywhere else in that period?
  2. hey wassup? you still not gone, starting threads all over the place 'n all.
  3. when using Internet Explorer, click < extras > < internet options > a menu pops up with options to change your homepage setting and two further categories. The temporary internet files have your cookies and your cache, click the < delete files > button (the one in the middle) to clean your cache. The lower category lets you clean your history. (I translated the names of the buttons and the menus from German, hope I'm close)
  4. I can see deus in a Klingon uniform just now...
  5. I have been bashed by silence already. No need to jump out and start yelling "look! here I am, try and hit me if you can!" again.

  7. thanks Jim, seems Marshall Royal never had much hair did he? I see there is a live recording from Switzerland recorded February 1959; I assume this pic was taking during the same tour of europe and that personnel did not change. For the Suisse disk is listed: Thad Jones, Snooky Young, Wendell Culley, Joe Newman.(tp) Henry Coker, Al Grey, Benny Powell.(tb) Marshall Royal.(as); Frank Wess.(as,fl); Billy Mitchell, Frank Foster.(ts); Charlie Fowlkes.(bs) Count Basie.(p); Freddie Green.(g); Eddie Jones.(b); Sonny Payne.(ds) Recorded : Live at Lausanne, Switzerland. February 3,6, 1959.

I have been much less than overwhelmed by Jagga Jazzist. Nice stuff for sure, but save for some tracks, it doesn't really get out of the whole trip-hop lounge thing I find. The overall sound they create lies too close to what groups like Boards of Canada or Jazzanova produce. I have grown weary of that kind of music after delving into it quite a bit for some time. The only stuff I still find myself returning to is those old Funki Porcini albums, which really are a blast and show much more balls and wicked fun than many a free jazz icon has produced, and Amon Tobin, who succeeded in creating a very dark sound world that is rather unique if also a bit dated (I found on last listen). Maybe it's time to dig the other crap out as well and give it an honest fresh listening again. Supersilent sounds a bit more promising but also has this often rather boring lounge quality that I find has become rather tiresome as well. Just another opinion.
  9. I won't be missing you (if only because you keep sending me mails on that Basie project... )
  10. they are starting to suspect something!
  11. first of all: welcome a-board! the disk you mention must be this one: It's on the Disconforme/Definitive label, which is not held in very high esteem by some. The label is based in Andorra and works according to the European copyright law, which brings music in the public domain after 50 years. The bad rap about Definitive is usually that it uses masters/transfers made by other companies. Anyhow, the music is very good; it collects Savoy master takes and some Prestige and Blue Note sides. The Savoy material has been released by Savoy on a bit-of-everything-complete disk in 1998, pairing it with loose ends from the Eckstine and Parker discographies and a 1956 Cecil Payne session. I believe that disk (AMG link) is the only source for the complete Be Bop Boys (Stitt/Dorham co-lead) material. The Milt Jackson tracks with Julius Watkins can also be found on that disk as on a Savoy Milt Jackson collection. The Prestige sides are led by J.J. Johnson and feature Sonny Rollins. There were released on the Prestige LP trombone by three (also available on CD); The BN material is on the Art Blakey/James Moody New Sounds 10" and various compilations.

  17. Thanks again .. but what avatar are you seeing? I am still getting that some dumb one of the Swedes circa 1961.... it should be DeFranco.. I am sure that you have better things to do ... it WAS DeFranco before you started this thread I remember. Now I see Elvin and Garth(?)
  18. reload the pic, it should help. All looks okay here now. there is a setting on this board; the default is 100x100 px. everything larger or smaller is forced to 100x100. You can manually set the size if you have a pic that is not a precise square.
  19. Schneider: yes! I am digging the stuff the brewery around the cornere recently brought to the market. Absolutely fabulous Weizen, very refreshing and a nice fruity touch. Yum yum yum yum yum....
  20. garth, you seem to have set the size of your avatar to 50x100, makes you & elvin look a bit thin. You'll need to set it to 100x100, or set it to default.
  21. problem found & solved, right?
  22. I see the son of weizen has got the trick of making his pics smaller damn shame you can't have a sip of that spankin new Bernstein-Weizen they produce in the home town here now. Oh boy, yumyumyum...

  24. what I want to know is, what's the test about? What do they "test?" and how?
  25. try therapeutic nihilism: don't do your work and notice how much of it isn't all that important anymore after a week or two. Best thing: people will stop asking you for it, it just goes away. Work is like water, it flows where it is taken away. If you do a lot of work, a lot of work is gonna come your way.
