yes, God bless the child. His voice sounds as hoarse as his tenor. And the tenor sound is typically whispery for latter day Shepp. Indeed not too bad at all, not at all... Wasn't there a website somewhere with an interview with Murray, who was complaining about never receiving adequate payment for this session?

  11. McMaster's answer does of course beg the question WTF is going on. From what I know, the TOCJ is made from an eq'ed LP master tape, as close as you can get to the original vinyl sound. McMaster says he used the original session tapes, which may account for the discrepancy in the hiss, but not for the lack of treble or the distorted cymbals. So, wassup?
  12. 1947, a party is held at Chuck Kopely's home in Hollywood to celebrate Charlie Parker's return from Camarillo hospital. Bird in great form!

Wasn't Archie Shepp's relatively recent CD "St. Louis Blues" (with Sunny Murray and RIchard Davis) released on Jazz Magnet as well? Will chekc when I get home. That disc was not too bad, by the way. nope, that one is on PAO indeed, not too bad at all
  20. Mosaic selects are also distributed e.g. through amazon, but cost about twice as much compared to buying from Mosaic direct. The only interesting items are the larger Verve boxes, which come at the same price as when ordered through Mosaic, but with considerably less postage costs and no taxes at the border.
  21. this only applies to the recent Mosaic Verve sets. You can buy them at the usual outlets like amazon, but also in brick and mortar stores. try a search for "complete verve" at amazon.co.uk for example
  22. poor sod, trapped in an avalanche twice within a week!
