  6. yes, this wonderful session is original on an esoteric lp (i think newman´s own label, because i have an al haig session on esoteric records reissued on fresh sound cd from 1954 and there it´s written "recorded in the esoteric studios, new york city by jerry newman") and another one on "period" also recorded by newman. -- sonny berman is on cool & blue cd 111 (switzerland) from 1993 and maybe long oop. there are also two cd´s on "high note" (hcd 7066 and hcd 7082) with charlie ventura and bill harris live at the three deuces 1947 with the wonderful dave tough on drums recorded by jerry newman "on location". very fine music! i wonder where are the archives from people like jerry newman (minton´s), bob andrews (west coast), boris rose (ny radio) and timme rosenkrantz (jam sessions) are now located?? anybody knows something about that? are there any discographies avaiable about that historical recordings? keep boppin´ marcel

  9. hi, mr. jazzmann, there are ten versions of "koko" by charlie parker. the one used in the film is the famouse master-take, take 2, from the first session under his own name (charlie parker´s ree-boppers) for savoy, monday, november 26, 1945 with dizzy, thornton aka hakim, russell and roach. i saw the film only once "years" ago and (maybe i´m wrong) but can´t we see the records when the main character (? matt damon) put them on the record player? there is also the original film soundtrack avaiable. hope that helps. keep boppin´ marcel
  10. hello, i´m a fan of sean jones since i heard and saw him two times in concert a few years ago here in germany in a little jazz club with the frank delle international quintett. sean jones is down beat jazz performance award winner 2000. he has a power that reminds me of clifford brown. at that concerts here in münster (a little town in the west of germany, near the dutch frontier) he was playing wonderful hard-bop (or is the name neo-bop?). if you don´t know him, look for his name. i´m sure he will make it in the future. my wife is a photographer and she took some nice pictures from the concert. there is also a german cd with the frank delle group called "confined freedom" (also jones´ composition) from 2001. (i think his first where he is featured). so, if you have the chance to see and hear him... go! (by the way: he is a good photo motive (especially in action)). anything to say more? go and hear mr. sean jones!!! here is a link about sean jones from another list: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=2093 keep (neo-)boppin´ marcel
  11. hi, the trumpet solo on the georgie auld track "co-pilot" from march 28. 1945 is definitly dizzy gillespie and not freddie webster! it´s also on the masters of jazz cd mjcd 110 volume 5 in the gillespie serie (media 7). solos are dizzy, auld and tony aless,p,. it´s a typical dizzy solo. you can hear some of his typical signatures. btw there are more freddie webster sessions with the following leaders (according to bruyninckx discography): louis jordan 1941 sabby lewis 1944 johnny powell 1947 billy eckstine 1944 billie holiday 1944 and "it is said that he recorded in the late 40´s with a large band, details are lacking. freddie webster, tp, wade marcus, tb, tadd dameron, arr, (?)" anybody knows more about that?? is there any chance to get the mentioned cd-r(s) with the "complete" freddie webster? keep boppin´ marcel

  18. this short film of charlie parker was shown in a documentary by jan horne from norwegian television in 1990. it shows also the hot house sequence with dizzy and the close up of bird´s face of norman granz´ "improvisation". (i think the entire film was not known in 1990). together with chan parker, harlod jefta (saxist, who can play every parker solo) and harvey cropper (who taught bird to paint in oils) they met in chan´s house in champmotteux. i think this film was (or is) avaiable on the kjazz lable (vhs). keep boppin´ marcel
  19. bird on film hello bird lovers. there are three films with charlie parker: 1. the famouse hot house with dizzy gillespie 2. the norman granz jazz at the philharmonic "trailer" improvisation with coleman hawkins (ballad) and in trio (celebrity) and most rare 3.some short silent bird sitting on a table writing autographs on little cards or pieces of paper. front. handling with his sax. from oblique above and from behind. only his hands. very short movie. it is from november. 21. 1950 from the warm-up room in the concert hall in gothenburg. sweden. it was taken by bo tak. 16 at the time and later film photographer for sweden television. it´s a 16-mm silent film clip about one minute long showing parker both as he warms up and as he signs autographs. does any of you bird afficionados knows more films with bird? keep boppin´ marcel
