Hmmm .... I know that site, but there's no mention of a Philology issue, nor on Noal Cohen's Lucky Thompson Discography. If you have details on that issue, please forward it to them. that´s why i wrote "label" in brackets. it´s on cd-r and not official. (like so many things from philology, the 86 volumes in the bird´s eyes series or the 36 volumes in the brownie´s eyes) but let us not talk about private issues and bootlegs.... keep boppin´ marcel

yes, "the gordons", honi, george jr. and richard. one of my favourites. and so little output! i found nothing of them on the internet. on "take the a-train" no discography mentioned them. even not the original liner notes of the jazztone lp. the "philology" "label" has the complete set for years in it´s "historical series". here´s a good link for that session: http://themenschmidt.de/oscar56.htm keep boppin´ marcel

Underrated- definitely. Highly respected- yes, by those who have bothered to investigate. Died before realizing his potential?- Not sure I understand. Thomas developed his style very nicely, and even had time to evolve somewhat as he experimented with different styles in the early 70's (eg, "Dynasty", "Live In Sesjun", "Thomas-Pelzer Ltd."). He died before much of the jazz world really appreciated him, but to say he hadn't reached his potential... I don't know. jim r, i think, you are right. but i made only a copy of this sentenses from a site on the net where this cd was mentioned without thinking about it too critical.... sorry! keep boppin´ marcel

in the meantime i found the tracklist of the upcoming "guitaristic" cd. maybe it helps a little bit: Titles on disc 1.: L'imbecile 2.: How About You 3.: All The Things You Are 4.: Relaxin' At The Grand Balcon 5.: There Will Never Be Another You 6.: Lover Man 7.: Burt's Pad 8.: Autobuzz 9.: Tis Autumn 10.: Indiana 11.: Thomasia 12.: Sextius 13.: Influence 14.: Guitaristic 15.: Imy 16.: Real Cat 17.: Someone To Watch Over Me 18.: Get Happy 19.: A Night In Tunisia 20.: My Old Flame 21.: Easy To Love 22.: Goodnight Wherever You Are Twenty two track compilation, bringing together the great jazz guitarist's work with his orchestra, his quartet, his sextet (he was clearly a busy man) and the Modern Group. An underrated player who died before realising his potential, he is now a highly respected player.

a good and rare compilation from baldwin street music. shavers in various groups from 1940 - 1952. even with the young modern (buddy defranco, charles mingus, max roach, phil urso, george wallington and chuck wayne) he is superb. keep boppin´ marcel

Did a quick search before posting this but could not find a DVD with it! as far as i know it´s on the "bonus" dvd in the bmg rca bluebird cenntenial collection from 2004 together with "nine video selections that include two clips from Paramount shorts, among them "Symphony in Black" and "Record Making With Duke Ellington and His Orchestra," five clips from 1941, a selection from "Jamboree #7" from 1943, and an 11-minute interview with Ellington that was recorded for Radio Newsreel and is previously unreleased.
