  1. Right on! I'd like one. Should I PM you my address? Cheers!
  2. Yes, but you gotta be cool at 218*394 pixels. Make an offer. Cheers!
  3. The grease dripping off him just got to be too much and I decided to terminate the contract. Cheers!
  4. Someone who looks that cool will be hired straight away. Who will fill the vacancy to complete the triad? Applications will be accepted until March 1st. (Note: You gotta look at least as cool as Monsieur Ubu.) Cheers! Edit: once again for typo.
  5. Very simple for me to decide which ones are my favorites. I only have two, the Teddy Wilson and the Ellington Reprise sets, and they definetely are my absolute favorites. The Gerry Mulligan one will be my third absolute favorite when it gets here. Cheers!
  6. i don't think he's asking for anyone to take responsibility for his decision. he's merely asking for some objective information on which to form his own judgment. so, has michael c. corroborated reinier's observations or not? Exactly. Thanks jazzshrink. And I don't give a hoot about the resale value of copy protected CDs possibly being lower. I know that hearses don't have luggage racks, but I really don't care what happens to my CD collection once I'm no more. Until then, I intend to keep it. Besides, everyone is scrambling to get his/her hands on SACDs, praising them for their sound, and they already have copy-protection (watermark) built in, so to speak. How come nobody is complaing about that? I just want someone to name a few CDs that have inferior sound so I can go and check. That's all.
  7. @king ubu: I have vacant positions at either my left or right side. Interested? @rockefeller center: That was music to my ears! Thanks! @couw & maren: Lovely beef and desert cakes. Bring them along to the birthday party (date not set yet). Cheers!
  8. Thanks! You were faster than me. I read it and it seems to be one example. Have there been/are there other ones that anyone has heard of? Cheers!
  9. Thanks couw. And while you're doing that, this: I've spent the past three months researching this topic as much as was possible because I have been investing quite a bit of money in my ever-growing CD collection and am, of course, reluctant to buy inferior CDs. So, what I was wondering was if I should be ordering my stuff from the UK or the US just to avoid copy protection whenever possible. This would certainly, in the long run, be much more expensive (we're talking anywhere between 500 and 3000 CDs). Fact is that besides the arguments which attack copy protection on a basis of principle, arguments which I agree with 100% (!), everything I have read about copy-protection influencing sound quality aside from the above mentioned case of scratched CDs and error correction (which is certainly serious enough!), I have not found a single substantiated case of a copy-protected Blue Note CD sounding different from one without CP. There have been instances where audiophiles have in one way or another voiced their rather esoteric descriptions of the lack of "air", "room" and whatnot, but trying to substantiate that together with a larger group of hifi fans from my area on a stero setup with Macintosh amps (4) and Dynaudio speakers in the $100.000 range (yes, that's what they cost) at my local dealer and later on every member's usually excellent stereo, we unanimously came to the conclusion that it was utter BS and more likely a judgement tainted by principle opposition to copy protection. That's why I'm asking here. Cheers! [quickly edited for typos]
  10. Hi everyone, I hear lots of yelling and screaming about copy protection and I have regularly joined the chorus when it comes to demanding that copy protection be removed from CDs. What I'm wondering is this: I have quite a few copy-protected CDs (the European Blue Note releases, f. ex.) AND I am quite a picky listener with a more than decent stereo, but so far I have not been able to hear any of the often-cited decline in sound quality, even when comparing Blue Note CDs with and without copy-protection. I am aware of the fact that error correction can be hampered by copy-protected CDs which have gotten more or less scratched, but setting this issue aside, I'm wondering ... a) if anyone here can actually substantiate these claims of reduced sound quality (where's the proof, I wonder, especially when stepping away from HiFi magazines' laboratories and into someone's living room), meaning: can anyone actually name (for example) a Blue Note CD that sounds different or worse with copy-protection than without and give some more details (=proof)? B) Can anyone provide a decent (=serious tests, opinions by experts, etc.) link to a page where I can read up on this and where I can find some proof provided by discerning listeners that goes beyond the usual parrot-like repetition of the same line that copy-protection ruins sound quality (without giving any proof)? Thanks! Cheers!
  11. @mikeweil: [incl. wrath, as requested by couw] Being a jazz god is a rather limiting experience [as your assumption shows]. @king ubu: So, what did it feel like? Was it good for you? @couw & maren: Thanks for the big one! Cheers! P.S.: I think it's time we have an extended birthday party. Suggestions?
  12. Also check out "steroids"
  13. Solo at 4:41 (first video) ...
  14. If it was Carlock, check him out on thesevideos here: videos
  15. MUCH better, maren. MUCH better.
  16. couw, my devoted follower, don't be lazy. Not after all that effort. Be a little more Puritan already.
  17. Maren, you had everything going for you and you just HAD to screw it up. Try again. [edited for divine typo]
  18. Sorry, you got something wrong there. That's not how it works. It's my birthday, NOT yours! It is actually exactly that misconception which is going to bury Christianity one day: "God has to give me presents." God says: "Bullshit!" Definitely the way to go. "Hey, let's give unto God all the old mouldy cakes I have flying around the house". Way to go. That'll get your pearly gates' count up for sure! Yeah, but the flesh ... the flesh. And talking about stretch marks. Man, the amount of lotion I have to slap on each and every day. We're talking fortunes here. This board has other gods in charge ... although they are, of course, lesser gods which you can just go ahead and worship. Try it. Oh, just what we need. Takes 6 1/2 days to create the stuff (left me 1/2 a day for women and tobacco) and you think it's overly complicated. I guess you have no problems with women and tobacco addiction? Old is not ugly. Ask 62% of the German population. Now that I come to think of it, give it the old acid test. Stand on the next market square, shout "OLD IS UGLY!" ... and report the result back to me. On second thought, I think you will probably be able to report the result directly back to me. I'll be waiting at the gate. You just don't get it, do you? I say "young"and I am. I simply don't need to waste any precious time worrying. Leaves me plenty of time to worry about other things, like jazz fans on jazz forums. Yep, I think we need to rewrite the book of books: "1st commandment: Thou shalt abuse jazz forums. Though shalt not get a life. Nope, not at all." That winged serpent hanging around here again? Man, THAT guy is a nuisance, believe you me. I'm off to be 17. Cheers!
  19. I'm 16. Legal drinking age in my house. Cheers!
  20. Where's my cake?
  21. Sure, I'll check it out. But I don't see why I should move over there, really. Just to get a Blue Note stamp of approval? This is a pretty tight-knit commity here at organissimo.org, and the new BNBB will be quite a different thing, especially if they leave it wide open for guest postings. Wonder how that's going to work out. Cheers!
  22. I guess I have to travel to Switzerland soon. Lukas Felzmann I know (quite a mixed output; lots of detail photography). http://www.lukasfelzmann.com. I've seen some Jean-Pascal Imsand work, but can't recall quite now. Jakob Tuggener is great. I saw an exhibitionabout six years ago, in Frankfurt if I recall correctly. The film I saw. Fascinating. Zweitausendeins sold a book really cheap (I think it's sold out): "Mechanismus und Ausdruck. Die Sammlung Ann und Jürgen Wilde. Fotografien aus dem 20. Jahrhundert. Sprengel Museum Hannover." Most of the photographers I linked to (also Franz Roh) are represented in that book. Get it if you can. It's great (also good reproduction quality). I'm off to bed. Cheers!
  23. Yep, I am. I've been wanting to see that museum for quite some time now ... haven't gotten around to it yet - but I will, one day. One of my fave photographers is Franz Roh (1890-1965), but it is very difficult to find any of his stuff online in a quality which is worthy of his absolutely stunning photos. So, I won't link to anything here. But there are so many great photographers. I could put a hundred into this thread off the top of my head. But, not enough time, especially now (I'm supposed to be in bed). Maybe another day. Cheers! [edited for typing errors]
