I wanted to post a list here. It was quite extensive. When completed, I decided not to post it. There are just too many tunes. It is an extremely rare occurence that I stop the playback of one of the recordings I have. I always play them until the end. Jimmy Smith is my "get-ready-for-the-weekend" guy - he smokes my speakers at least once a week, usually Fridays at around 18:00 (but certainly not only). I think even the neighbours have started to like him ... I'm not really giving them a chance to decide otherwise. Side-note: I have a rather warm-sounding Marantz/Dynaudio setup. Jimmy Smith just sounds super-bad on that system. I often put on some of his stuff at full blast for friends when I try to show off the capabilities of the system. Jimmy Smith makes me want to buy a tube system and a better turntable. Now, how many other musicians are there that can conjure up that kind of wish? Cheers!

It was this board that really forced me to get into Jimmy Smith. I came late to his stuff but think it is stellar. You could say that all of you made me love Jimmy Smith. He's become a constant in this household because of it. I was saddened to hear about his passing, but I'm happy that there are so many excellent recordings he left behind which, to me, have this unwavering upbeat quality to them that always gets me in a good mood. I don't think I've started a weekend without Jimmy Smith since I bought the first CD. That makes him one of the very, very, very few.

I have quite a few Flanagan recordings. The one I return to most often is this one: It was the one that got me hooked on Flanagan, albeit a bit late (last year? the year before?). I had heard him many times before but didn't start concentrating on his output until I had fallen in love with that recording. Talking to my former drum teacher I also found out that I actually saw Flanagan live several times (he played with him countless times), I just couldn't remember until he told me. I think I went to too many live concerts at the time. Cheers!

Amazon, at least in the US, takes 15% of the sale price, a flat $1 per item in addition, and a portion of the postage you pay as well. When selling a CD to customers here in the US (I do this lots at work), we recieve a $1.84 postage credit, and on international sales we get $4.95. Amazon makes lots of money off their marketplace sellers! $2.35 per $9 CD, and post $ as well. And all they have to do is provide space on their site. I knew that. But I think it's still a weird business model. Just imagine this: A supermarket which provides some space for other supermarkets that offer many of the same items it sells, but at half the price (in my case, everything I've wanted these past months aside from limited/special editions was available from Caiman). All it gets is the rent and maybe a couple of cents here and there when the customer walks out the door. Weird. But fine with me. Cheers!

I bought myself the following 12-disc set from jpc.de: Frank Sinatra: The Complete Collection 1943-1952. Disky 2004 (I think it's been around for longer and this one was just printed in 2004). Disky is some cheapo Dutch (I think) label. I paid - get this - Euro 17.99 for it. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. Maybe a bit on the bright side at times but definitely good enough for me (and I'm picky). 12 single jewelcases with CDs. No liner notes. Just titles listed. The 4 slipcases (3 jewelcases in each) look quite sleek (maybe I'll post a pic later) and are housed in a sturdy cardboard box. I've done some searching on the Internet and came up with this list of songs that are missing when compared with the Coulumbia box set: CD1 : Nancy, White Christmas CD2: Over The Rainbow, You'll Never Walk Alone, My Shawl CD3: Silent Night, Old School Teacher CD4: Home On The Range, The Song Is You, You'll Know When It Happens CD5: Adeste Fidelis, There's No Business Like Show Business, Jingle Bells, Strange Music, Poinciana, The Music Stopped, None But The Lonely Heart, It's All Up To You CD6: Always (2x), My Love For You, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Christmas Dreaming CD7: A Fellow Needs A Girl, So Far, It All Came True, Strange Music, Laura CD8: Mean To Me, Spring Is Here, Fools Rush In, When You Awake, It Never Entered My Mind, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, White Christmas CD9: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Help Yourself To My Heart, Once In Love With Amy, Kisses And Tears CD11: Meet Me At The Copa, Let It Snow CD12: A Good Man Is Hard To Find I don't know if there are other numbers which are added to this set, but I doubt it. (and I'm too lazy to check). A very cheap way to get a whole lot of Sinatra, especially since the "The Columbia Years - The Complete Recordings" is, AFAIK, being discontinued by Columbia as of January 2005. Cheers!

I've bought tons of stuff from Caiman. What never seizes to amaze me is that amazon.de actually allows a seller like that on their site. Even with the postage and every item sent separately, many of the discs I bought were at least 1/3 (often more than that) cheaper than buying through amazon.de. You could say that I practically stopped buying anything through amazon.de unless it is reduced massively. Cheers!

How about 15,000 That would be, err, hmm, 2.03 CDs per thief. I think you're onto something here. It just might be possible. Hell, even I've managed to steal 2 albums in my life, I think. Who would have thought? A global CD-stealing conspiracy. I'll be damned. This calls for a drink. And a healthy dose of Teddy Wilson to go with it. Cheers!
