  1. Get it while you can. The Bix sides are available elswere off course but the Trumbauer (sans Bix) and the Teagarden sides are not.
  2. This is exciting news. That means an extra CD to an already very promissing set. :) Scott didn't say anything about an extra CD and the website still lists 8 CDs, not 9. Maybe there was room on the 8 discs that were already planned. I might have been carried away by my enthousiasm. I looked to track listing again there is room for extra tracks especialy on discs 2,3, 4 and 7.
  3. This will tie you over till Hawkins arrives. In Hawkins' interview by Paul Bacon and Bill Grauer for the Riverside record 'Coleman Hawkins a documentary' as printed in vol. 1 of the Jean-Francois Villetard Hawkins disco he says about Chu: Q: Who do you think at this time was a really good man on that? Hmmm... Chu. Chu was about the best. Yes Chu Berry was the best man around.

  5. Treated myself to: Jimmie Lunceford big box, Charles Tolliver big band select, Ruby Braff and George Wein singles. Next on the waiting list Coleman Hawkins and the MJQ. Later this year: Joe Pass and the Chick Webb/Ella Fitzgerald sets.
  6. Would you mind, if it's not to much trouble, posting a track or session list for this set? I would be very greatfull to know especially about the September 12, 1955 session wich has never been on CD in total and the November 8, 1955 session. This is not really a big band session but it is not included in the Mosaic Dizzy Gillespie small group box set nor on one of the CD's devoted to the All Star sessions. This one has Harry "Sweets" Edison, Melba Lison and Willie Smith. I know the two tracks wih Tony Harper are on Fresh Sound.
  7. Lang & Venuti disc 3 after 1 and 2 earlier today.
  8. Miles Davis & Gil Evans disc 1. On my new Denon amplifier.
  9. I'm single but still felt the need for a music room.
  10. Release date now: late January/February 2012.
  11. The Al Cohn/Perkins/Kamuca The Brothers is on Last Chance now.
  12. Buddy Rich in London is gone now.
  13. It's on last chance now. So hurry if in doubt. It's a great set.
  14. Back to Chick. I checked his discography published in "Ella Fitzgerald: An Annotated Discography" by J. Wilfred Johnson. The following sessions will not be included as they are owned by Sony: 20-12-1933, 15-1-1934, 4-5-1934, 18-7-1934 (8 tracks) All for Columbia. 6-7-1934 (4 tracks) for Okeh So hold on to your copy of either: Hep 1023, Classics 502 or Properbox 97. Chich Webb made only 4 sessions as as sideman: 8-12-1932 with Louis Armstrong for Victor (on Louis Armstrong Integrale vol. 6) 7-5-1932 with Mezz Mezzrow for Victor (on Classics 713 Mezz Mezzrow 1928-1936) 3-3-1937 with Jimmy Mundy for Variety (on Classics 1200 Jimmy Mundy 1937-1947) 25-3-1937 with the Gotham Stompers for Variety (on Mosaic 235 Ellington Small Groups)
  15. BG Classic Columbia and Okeh Sessions disc 2 (played disc 1 earlier this evening). Just love this band. "Benny rides again" is one of my Goodman favorites.
  16. The Mosaic site now has an annoucement for the Chick Webb/Ella Fitzgerald set: http://www.mosaicrecords.com/genres.asp?dept=50
  17. Don't want to be the prophet of doom but: Don Byas set. I'm afraid the Byas material is on too many labels to make this happen. It would make a great set. Marshal Royal select. I believe Concord is part of OJC group (Prestige/Riverside etc). Don't see this happen as a Mosaic. But one never knows do one? Johnny Hodges 60's Verve: Again this would make a great set but a lot is on Lonehill. So I don't see this happing soon. I hope to be proven wrong.
  18. I believe on the other thread, someone found it was just under 50 tracks that overlapped with Affinity, which makes it even more of a no-brainer in my case. I just need to come up with the dosh now! May I refer to post #66 in the original thread about this box. I'll be getting this box in December with my 13th month.
  19. Off course, but CD's are also tangible and downloads or streams are not. Yes, you can burn a download to a CD. If you have a record or a CD you have something you can hold in your hands. What happens to the entry in the disco if the website that offers the stream disapears? For me including digitital streams/downloads in a discography is a new step of wich I don't know what it means for the feature of collecting.
  20. Go to either: New/reissues and set the numbre of days to 4 and scroll down. Or do a word search on Wolfgang's Vault. OK, I understand now. I thought you meant that you could actually stream or download the music there. To hear the music (for free) go to http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/ For downloading you have to pay.
  21. Go to either: New/reissues and set the numbre of days to 4 and scroll down. Or do a word search on Wolfgang's Vault.
  22. Tom Lord started to incorporate downloads from Wolfgangs Vault in his online disco. some 40 concerts so far. Artist include Benny Goodman, Carmen McRae, Charles Mingus, Buddy Rich etc.
  23. How do you like this set? I know a lot of people rank it near the top of Mosaics. I missed out on this and I can't justify paying OOP prices on this... One day though!!! It's a good set, I'm not heavily into vocal jazz and this or a Chris Connor CD often does the trick. So many songs on it that there's always one to fit your mood. I love this set. Anita is my favorite jazzsinger. Highlights are the Cole Porter and the Rodgers & Hart albums. IIRR this was the firts Mosaic I bought through their website.
  24. The Properbox "The Arrangers Touch" disc 2. Disc 1 has as sample of Duke Ellington's style "Reminiscing In Tempo" (all 4 parts). I wonder how representative of Ellington's style this is. Four sepereate tracks would have said more about Ellington's style than this I think. Not that I don't like Reminiscing.
