  1. Benny Goodman 'The complete RCA Victor small group recordings' Disc 1. Had not played this for a long time. Almost forgot how good this is.
  2. I haven't listen to it yet the but Radio lab has a 6 part podcast about Harry Pace. Harry who? Harry Pace was founder of Black Swan records. Black Swan recorded in the early twenties Ethel Waters, Fletcher Hederson, James P. Johnson etc. Black Swan was the first record company owned by Afro-Americans. Yet later in life Pace passed for white. Enough reasons to listen to this series. Radiolab | The Vanishing of Harry Pace | WNYC Studios.
  3. Thanks for pointing this out. But those japanese CD's are difficult to track down and the prices. The days of the Select were over but I wished Mosaic did this as a Select as well . I would have dumped my Lone Hill set with pleasure for a Select.
  4. Out-Of-Print Limited Edition Jazz Collections - Mosaic Records - Home for Jazz fans!
  5. They were first issued by Columbia spread over two CD's Louis Armstrong Volume V Louis in New York (Two takes of After you've gone) And Louis Armstrong Volume 6 St. Louis Blues (1 take each of I ain't got nobody, and Dallas Blues and two of St. Louis Blues). Incedently this issue misses the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'. To complement the Classics issues of Louis Armstrong's recordings Neatwork put them all on Louis Armstrong Volume 1 1926-1935 (Neatwork RP 2020). This one has the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'. Frémeaux included them all on The complete Louis Armstrong 5 "Tight Like This" 1928-1931 (FA 1355). This one als misses the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'.
  6. Better late than never. The JSP box covers chronologicly all Armstrong sessions November 12 1925 - Februari 1st 1930. 'He likes It Slow' with Butterbeans and Susie and the Carroll Dickerson big band session that produced 'Symphonic Raps' and 'Savoyagers' Stomp'. are also included. Of 'Some Of These Days' and 'When You're Smiling' both vocal and instrumental takes are included. The alternate takes of 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love' and 'Rockin' Chair' round off the set. Off course the later discovered instrumental takes of 'After You've gone', 'I Ain't Got Nobody', 'Dallas Blues' and 'St. Louis Blues' are not included. The Columbia Longbox covers not chronologicly all Armstrong sessions November 12th 1925 - March 5th 1929. Also included are The November 11th 1925 Hociel Thomas session, 'Butterbeans and Susie, Lil's Hot Shots and Johhny Dodds Vocalion Sessions. The 'I Can't Give You Anything But love' alternate is also included. The Carroll Dickerson session is missing. The JSP includes the first orchestra sessions the Columbia stops at the last Savoy Ballroom 5 session.
  7. Only 'Estoy Cansado' is in the same latin mood and with bandvocal.
  8. Yes that one. Both versions are on CD 2 of the select. timings inlay 4:20, CD player 4:22 and 6:05 inlay 6:07 CD player
  9. This version was recorded for LP 'Experiments In Sound' April 28th, 1958. And is included in the Select.
  10. last Saturday my copy of the DESUK magazine Blue Light. Included was the CD 'Who Knows? The uncovered Ellington' by Brian Priestley from 2003. It features 16 selections: Blue Pepper, Hand Me Down Love, Azure, Don't You Know I Care, Who Knows?, Almost Cried, Johnny Come Lately, East, East, by East, After All, Cop Out, Searchin', That's What He says, What Are You Gonna Do (When The Bed Breaks Down)?, Tootin Through The Roof, Lotus Blossom. All very nice. Azure is payed as a piano piece taking on a Monk with a soft side touch.
  11. And the new website is up.
  12. It is strange. On my tablet I get the old site again. On my laptop nothing. We'll wait and see.
  13. I hope so but there was nothing about that i their mail tonight explaining their situation.
  14. I tried to go to the Mosaic website I get a under construction message. Does anyone have the same trouble?
  15. I just collected The new Louis Armstrong Mosaic from a post collection point. Disc 1 playing. Glorious Satchmo
  16. Mine left the warehouse yesterday.
  17. That would be an awful lot of Frank Trumbauer (not a complaint). There was a Bix Beiderbecke/Frank Trumbauer/Jack Teagarden set. That features his work for Columbia/Okeh. His recordings for Victor with the Benson Orchestra of Chicago and Paul Whiteman and others have never been collected in one collection. I don't know about other C-melody players. I would be interested in that.
  18. Might prove to have too many CD's
  19. It's not on the Savoy or Savory box . Some issues give give October 19 1938 but Armstrong was in New Orleans that day. Info from Tom Lord disco. I have the Recording on Neatwork Louis Armstrong volume 2 1935-1944 and Frémeaux The complete Louis Armstrong vol 9. Jeepers Creepers is included but not mentioned in the booklet. Disc 1 has 23 tracks in stead of 22. There are many more issues of this session.
  20. The previous Armstrong set was from 2014 (RCA Victor and Columbia live recordings). When I suggested this set to Mosaic I didn't anticipate so much extra material. 3 albums with alternate takes and a few singles. I suggested this set beacause I had trouble tracking down CD's with the master takes of Play W.C Handy and Satch plays Fats. So for me it is a must have. I 'm not suggesting that Mosaic did this set only because I asked for it.
  21. I'll take the plunge and do November.
  22. I checked the Tom Lord on line disco. There is no complete edition. From the around 50 rolls a number have been issued on Biograph complitations. BCD105 'Carolina Shout' has 13 of them.
  23. I only read the large print shipping notice. It’s to the warehouse. But it still means the set is on it’s way.
