We've reached both extremes "couldn't be happier", and "utterly disgusted" already, in the first 3 posts in this thread. I could (couldn't?) care less about whether the character is gay. If his sexuality is a factor in the story line, ok fine, move along. If it's not a factor, then why is there this big annoucement by Rowling? Seems like it's much ado about nothing - probably to keep the Potter franchise in the public eye more than anything else, during a lull between books and movies.

AND, you got to use your numbered Swiss bank account to pay for it. Be careful, or I'll start monitoring all of your box-set listening thread posts again.

I ordered one from the Swiss marketplace seller about a week ago. I'm curious whether this will show up, but they have it listed as "in stock", so we'll see. About the same price as Amazon UK to the U.S.

Are you gonna tell us what he did, or is it a secret??

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Aggie87 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I just discovered that Bobby Shew is in town for this weekend's Texas Jazz Festival. Would have preferred to have seen him instead of the Big Giant Rat last night. Unfortunately I have kid commitments this weekend already, or I'd check him out. The TX Jazz Festival is not a big money event (despite it's name, which would seem to suggest a prominent fest), and often showcases local/regional music more than anything. -

Herbie, "Takin' Off" but why are you getting me an RVG? Don't question it Conn!! -
I'd move back to Stuttgart. It's a big city in a great location (plus one that tourists don't visit). You have all the conveniences of living in a hustling, bustling city (and one where you can catch the big name touring jazz acts), and yet you're also close to the Black Forest, Munich, Switzerland, and France. A place I'd enjoy living in purely based on its beauty would be Grindelwald, Switzerland.

If you go with media mail, I believe it's $4.99. Other options from Dusty Groove depend on your zip code. -

I just recently picked up the Dave Douglas 2 cd live set from the Jazz Standard, looking forward to exploring that one. Also, in today's email:

What I read was Josh Howard, not sure where Juwon came from - brain fart on my part. I see more denial-type stuff on the net than I do confirmation of this, though. Still appears to be nothing more than a rumor.
-
***RUMOR*** Saw this elsewhere online, but per AM 570 in Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant has been traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He's cleared out his locker supposedly as well. Lakers are supposedly getting Jason Terry, Juwon Howard, and 2 first rounders. Story's going around on The Ticket in Dallas too. Wonder how true it is?? edit - just tried to listen to both stations on line, but haven't heard anything about this. I guess it's just a rumor.

Just the facts

I think in order for your concern to be valid for everyone else, we'd all have to agree on the definition of jazz. And I don't think that's going to happen, based on past discussions (either here or at AAJ). -
I recently picked up Zorn's "Six Litanies for Heliogabalas", which is the third in a series following "Moonchild" and "Astronome". I haven't heard those two (which are just the trio of Patton/Dunn/Baron), but this recording is intense! From Jurek's review at allmusic: "this is music equal parts classical, heavy metal, hardcore thrash, free jazz, and structured improvisation simultaneously." I will warn anyone who's not a fan of Patton to avoid this one. John Zorn: Alto Sax, Composer Joey Baron: Drums Trevor Dunn: Bass Ikue Mori: Electronics Mike Patton: Voice Jamie Saft: Organ Martha Cluver: Voice Abby Fischer: Voice Kirsten Soller: Voice PS - Heliogabalas is quite an interesting character. I wasn't very familiar with him before picking this cd up. Also, I think the cd packaging is perfumed to match it's look, too.

This guy is selling what appears to be a 2001 edition of the Riverside box, complete with what appears to be couw's booklet.

Glad you arnd Rachel are both ok, that's the most important thing, obviously. My parent's house in Germany was robbed once while they were away for a few days. They mainly made off with my mother's jewelry, which wasn't recovered. Though that was 20+ years ago, I think it's affected her in that she doesn't seem to be as trusting of others as she used to. About two years ago she slipped and fell in a store, and two young, casually dressed men came over to assist her. She told me her first thought was that they wanted to steal her purse. I don't like loading my car up for trips in plain view either, though I'm on a mostly quiet residential street, so that is done with the garage door closed as well.

I don't believe anyone has received a copy yet to determine that.
