I'm sure if Barry Bonds played his whole career for the Astros, I'd be spouting offering up similar defenses of him.

You all post some weird chit BUT...

Apparently not quite the same this as what happened to this dog: Dog victim of alleged sexual assault gains family CORPUS CHRISTI - A dog that may have been sexually assaulted by a Victoria man in Robstown last week has just had a stroke of good fortune. The story of the alleged assault on the 8-month-old dog nicknamed "Montana" angered animal lovers across the state. But it was a Corpus Christi woman who decided to give her a new home. "I just felt bad for her, that I wanted to give her a second chance so she knows what it's like to be in a home where she's loved and cared for," Cassandra Scifres said. "It just made me cry that anybody could do that to any animal." Scifres first heard about Montana's story from a friend and decided to visit her at a local animal hospital where she was receiving care. She hadn't planned to adopt the terrier mix, but she said Montana's personality quickly won her over. "She just ran out of the cage and jumped on my lap, and started giving me kisses, and loving me," Scifres said. But she wasn't as excited about getting a shower, at the Pooch Pad Dog Resort where Scifres works as a manager. After a quick shower, it was off to meet her new siblings, Oswald, a Boxer, and Oni, a long-haired Chihuahua, who spent the day playing around. And Montana doesn't just have a new family. In a few days, her owner said she'll be getting a new name - one Scifres said will reflect her personality. "She's very outgoing, very energetic," she said. "She's jumping around." And she loves to eat and play with tennis balls. "She enjoys eating people food," Scifres said. And while Scifres said she is excited about taking Montana home for the first time, she also hopes that... "...that she'll come out of this stronger, and that she'll be able to love us as much as we love her," Scifres said. Eduardo Ramos III, 26, of Victoria was arrested for public lewdness and is accused of having sex with the dog. Police are still waiting for results of DNA tests. -
Whatever the general % of racist people there are in this country, I'd be willing to bet that the same percentage exist in the category of baseball fans (edit - maybe even less, given that it's known there are minorities who play baseball, that may drive some of the racists away). I fail to see why that makes people who believe Barry Bonds cheated racists. I'm sure there are racists who think he cheated, as well as non-racists who think he cheated.

I bought the 16-disc box as well, but found that it's bulk meant that I never listened to it. So I've been getting these smaller boxes and am much more pleased. More easily digested music, and the sound is better. But more power to anyone who can dive into a 16-cd box. I have the 16 disc box too, but the version that zweitausendeins was selling (CHEAP - I think 29.99 Euros?) a few years back. It's not big and bulky, IMO. Between that and couw's excellent booklet, I'm set.

Updated and bumping. Thanks to everyone who's traded/purchased some of these discs~!

In addition to Dan's comments, it might help your stance if the person who's home run record was broken wasn't also black.

I'll put in a word for you with my good friend Prince (Dr.) Bvano H. Jimoh, from the National Corporation Headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. He's got a large prize he's trying to get out of the country, and is looking for someone in Pineville, LA who has a bank account and can help him. There's a handsome agent's fee for you, of course. He'll be in contact with you shortly. edit - I mean PRICE. -

Agree on all 3 counts. I've found Germans to be much better drivers overall than Americans. The system there is better - they have much more intensive driver's education, and the rules of the road are enforced (and more importantly obeyed). Things are much more orderly. The Autobahns are built better and maintained better. Annual car inspections are more rigid in general, plus the cost of driving is more expensive, so people tend to take it more seriously. Another factor that I think contributes to the overall better driving experience in Germany (which is speculative on my part, but I think true) is that Germans are able to drink legally (and maybe not legally in some cases, but socially more acceptable) at a younger age than Americans, and don't really start driving at quite the same age. In the U.S. there are alot of 16-18 year olds who are just learning to drive and wanting to drink at about the same age. Generally not a good combination. In Germany that didn't seem to be quite as big of a problem as in the U.S. The traffic in general on the autobahns has gotten quite a bit worse since I first drove on them in 1979 though. Since the Eastern bloc countries opened up, transportation (i.e. truck traffic) has increased tremendously going east and west. It's really slowed things down in general, in my experience. -

Bumping this thread up for this particular comment. Nonesuch is finally issuing "Music from the Knee Plays" on CD David Byrne Unearths The Knee Plays for CD Release He may be 55 years old now, but except for the dashing gray of his hair, former Talking Heads principal David Byrne looks eerily like he did when he was in his 20s and 30s, tossing off gems like "Once in a Lifetime" and "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)". Thus, we have come to the conclusion that Byrne has simply transcended time. For further proof, look no further than the fact that Byrne is, according to Billboard.com, issuing The Knee Plays-- his contributions to the soundtrack of Robert Wilson's the CIVIL warS opera (which also features music by Philip Glass)-- on CD for the first time over 20 years after he originally wrote them. The Plays were originally intended to serve as musical interludes between parts of the mammoth opera, which was never performed in its entirety because of financial and logistical obstacles. However, Byrne adapted parts of his score with Wilson for use in a different piece that had a limited run in the U.S. and Europe in 1985. Nonesuch will release The Knee Plays on October 30, supplemented with eight previously unreleased instrumentals. Also included is a DVD of the music set to a slideshow of 400 black and white photographs of the opera's production shot at 30-second intervals by JoAnn Verburg. Digging into Pitchfork's own recent reporting past, we find that Byrne guested on the recently released Baby Elephant (aka Prince Paul and Bernie Worrell) LP Turn My Teeth Up! and that he will host "How New Yorkers Ride Bikes" at the New Yorker Festival on October 6. Four days later (October 10, not that it matters if time means nothing to you), Byrne will participate in a conversation with evolutionary psychologist Geoffrey Miller at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. That talk is called "Connections Between Biology and Culture, Sex and Beauty, Genes and Creativity". Of course it is. The Knee Plays: 01 Tree (Today Is an Important Occasion) 02 In the Upper Room 03 The Sound of Business 04 Social Studies (The Gift of Sound) 05 Where the Sun Never Goes Down 06 Theadora Is Dozing 07 Admiral Perry 08 I Bid You Goodnight 09 Things To Do (I've Tried) 10 Winter 11 Jungle Book 12 In the Future 13 Tree (Reprise) * 14 I've Tried (Things to Do) * 15 Tic Toc 2 (In the Future) * 16 Whisper * 17 Misterias * 18 Faust Dance * 19 Ghost * 20 Super Natural *

I have it and think it's very good! It's a solid trio date, with the horns adding the right shading all around.
-
With the horns, or just the trio? Do you know if they'll pass through France? The tour will be with horns. Phil is part of the group. Scofield's website indicates a 24 November date in Reims, but that's it for France, unless dates get added.

Aren't you the same guy who hated Jerry Jones last year? (PS - I wasn't a fan of the T.O. signing either - but he's been a relative boy scout this season, compared to last year under Parcells. That attempted suicide thing seems like a long time ago now!)

Not a very exciting SNF game between the Bears & Cowboys. It's 3-3 at the half. I do think the Cowboys have had a couple of bad calls though - Witten got called for blocking in the back, and clearly wasn't hitting the guy in the back. T.O. got an offensive pass interference call, and I still can't tell where there was interference. And worst of all, there should have been 3 seconds left on the clock at the end of the half, with the Cowboys having the ball and a chance for a Hail Mary, but the refs disagreed and called it halftime. Hopefully a better second half is ahead of us.

There's an interesting (to me anyway) duo recording that's taking place with Jim Hall & Bill Frisell. Frisell would seem to be an interesting combination with Hall, his style being quite a bit different. This is duo out in January. Hall/Frisell ArtistShare page You can even design the cover art for the release (paging Noj!)

I still remember him from Mel Brooks' Silent Movie. He was the only one in the whole film who actually spoke. LOL RIP Marcel.

I think that's part of the point though. There are new generations that didn't experience what you did, or saw what you've seen. It's not readily available for most of the world's population. If this helps younger people to begin to understand the atrocities that the Nazis perpetrated on fellow humans, it's beneficial, IMO. I've visited Dachau a few times (the first time at about 14-15 yrs old), and it's something that will be with me forever. The feeling you get walking by the ovens, seeing the gassing showers (which were never used at Dachau, but still intended for that purpose), and seeing the authentic film footage in the museum there, is one of the most sobering exeriences I've ever had. The Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. is powerful as well, but to be on the actual ground where that took place is something else. Later, I took my 16 year old nephew when he visited us in Germany, so that he could see that Germany wasn't just castles, beer, and Hofbrauhauses. I believe it hit him in a similar manner. edit - Like goodspeak, I've also had the honor of hearing a Holocaust survivor speak. Herman Zimmerman came to my community and spoke to the elementary school children there, to give them some of his personal history. He wrote a book, "Ein Engel an meiner Seite", which I picked up an English copy of, and he was kind enough to sign it for me. -
Your logic escapes me. Can you explain how Seminole fans supporting their team (and most likely having alot of pride in their team's name and who it's in tribute to) equates to "Indian hating bastards"?

There I was, sitting in front of the tv, in my maroon A&M t-shirt, waving my 12th Man Towel.... for the first 2-3 minutes of the game. My daughter even sat with me for a bit and rooted them on. I had hopes this would be maybe an actual step towards respectability. After a while it was apparent that we sucked, and sucked bad. I mean really, really sucked. Craig James said our defense was playing a high school version of the zone D that nobody even plays anymore. What's gonna be fun is Franchione mocked Oklahoma last month, and Stoops didn't like it. They beat us a couple of years ago 77-0. This year's whooping is going to be worse, I think. Ah well.
