I think that's been true of Marley for 25+ years now, that's not new. He's probably more revered in the global non-African population as well. Regarding Michiru, she doesn't do much for me either, and I don't feel I have American-blinders on, having grown up essentially outside of the United States. She doesn't seem to push the boundaries of the style of music she's playing, to me.

If you buy only 1 pop cd this decade.....

I liked the Royksopp I heard on youtube, Dmitry, thanks for the links. Is "Melody AM" the best place to start with them? -
I haven't kept up with this thread enough, but has anybody picked up the new(ish) Phil Lesh "Live at the Warfield" set? There's a 2cd/1dvd set available, and I was curious whether Osby & Scofield merely guest on a track or two, or are actually in the band for the whole set. The AMG write up makes it sound as if they're present on all of the tracks. I'm interested in hearing Joan Osborne sing some of the Dead material, as well.

What are his personal favorite Impulse & CTI releases?

how many opportunities does one get to see the North Sea? Wow - that's a tourist attraction? Brussels is great for restaurants (especially seafood - check out the mussels) and beer. The 'Mannekin Pis' is totally anti-climactic (but then I'm not a great fan of midget urinator fountains ). Plenty of good CDs stores to check out too. 1. Hey, the Los Angeles River might be considered a tourist attraction to some, why not the North Sea? 2. How many midget urinator fountains ARE there in the world, anyway? 3. Leave it to Sidewinder to recommend Brussels mussels.

I haven't lived there, but have visited a few times (both work and vacation), while living in Germany. Brussels is a wonderful city to explore. Alot of beautiful architecture, and interesting shops. One of the touristy things to see is the Mannekin Pis statue, a little peeing boy. It's quite a bit smaller than you'd expect, but still something to say that you've seen. Brugge (or Bruges) is a also worth a visit, if she has time. It's close to the coast, and a smaller city, but is very charming. Has some windmills and canals that are very picturesque. Not sure what the weather there would be like in Dec/Jan. Chocolate is very good in Belgium, so if she has a sweet tooth (or if you do) she'll need to purchase some. They also brew some fine ales, probably alot of which aren't exported, so maybe she can carry back a couple. They make some beautiful tapestries there, too.

Wow, that's an impressive combo there, Mark! -
Gotta be more careful next time, Joe.

I haven't seen any mention of "Derek", the recent Derek Bailey/Cyro Baptista release on Amulet on the board, but I just picked it up last week, and am really enjoying it. Baptista is a good foil for Bailey on this recording. Worth checking out! I think it just got released in October.

Libations and a great chair, looks like you're ready for some live chat, Free!!

Normally I'd agree with you on this point, except the article above claims that she was a straight-A student in the Long Island school system. Even if she was in some "alternative school for kids who know they're gonna be famous later on", that's not straight-A caliber writing. And I also agree that her handlers should have screened that before it was released.

Also, just wanted to say I'm really enjoying the two Vandermark discs I recently picked up from Chuck, the FME "Montage" 2 disc set, and the Territory Band 5 "New Horse for the White House", which is 3 discs. Both are well worth checking out

bump... I just picked up the Vandermark 5 "Free Jazz Classics Vol 3 & 4" last week in Austin. Good stuff! Vol 3 is a tribute to Sonny Rollins, and Vol 4 is Roland Kirk. I need to pick up the Vol 1/2 set (have the Vol 2 already, but not the 1, and I"m guessing it's not at easy to find individually). edit - the Vol 4 is the same disc as the bonus disc that Evan mentions above.

Speaking of whom, I've heard he's been kicked out of Van Halen, and replace by Eddie's 15 year old son, Wolfgang. Apparently they're going to tour sometime soon, with the possibility of David Lee Roth singing. Not the same to me w/o Michael Anthony. -

Go to the web site, and click on the "eCertificate" link under your nearest machine. Yeah, I finally figured it out, using the advanced search. None of the machines here locally do eCertificates. Apparently the nearest machine to me that does is in San Antonio, 150 miles away -

I thought they all gave out Amazon codes? Or just select machines? How do you determine if a machine near you gives out the codes? I like the thought of getting rid of my spare change, but don't like the 8 percent fee that these machines usually charge, so the Amazon code is a sure attraction. -
....priceless! That couw is a man of few words!

This is the funniest thing I've read on here in a while! Aric - Germany is JUST LIKE ARIZONA, except it doesn't have roadrunners or coyotes.

I agree, he's definitely not earned his big paycheck this season. He was a slacker in the preseason, and hasn't shown the accuracy that he's been known for during the regular season either. Plus his short kickoffs have hurt, giving opponents the ball regularly at around the 30 yrd line. I don't think they'll cut him tomorrow, since the Cowboys have a game on Thursday, but it might not be surprising if he's gone after that. Surprise of surprises, 8 days later the Cowboys have cut Vanderjagt, and signed Martin Gramatica.
