Charles Tolliver Big Band - "With Love" (due Jan. 16th)
Aggie87 replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in New Releases
Outside of the Tolliver (and Burrell) dates, I'm not real impressed with Blue Note's "Studio Update": Jacky Terrasson Kenny Burrell Ramsey Lewis Al Green Suzanne Vega Jeff Golub Jeff Lorber Euge Groove Acoustic Alchemy I didn't realize Blue Note now includes Narada Jazz smooth stuff. That's the "finest in jazz since 1939"?? edit - and the Burrell is a live recording, so it's technically not even part of the studio update. -
So How You Feelin' This Holiday Season?
Aggie87 replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks for sharing, Free. My feelings fluctuate between the highs and the lows this year. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to work out a plan with my ex that would enable me to take my kids and visit my side of the family while they were all together, but was just able to reach an agreement yesterday. So that's a positive - moreso for the kids and my mom, who will now get to see her grandkids all at the same time. I'm still working on moving into the next phase of my life, and it's been 2.5 years since my marriage was officially over. Not sure how long it really takes, but I'm patient. Some things are looking up in some areas though, so that's good. I agree with you that this place helps raise spirits. And I dig your signature! -
Quite right . Here are some other ECM threads : http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=25537&hl= http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=20255&hl= http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=16626&hl= FWIW , I don't view talking about other similar threads or linking to them as an implicit criticism of the thread starter . Just trying to be helpful . Thanks Chas. Trying to avoid duplication of threads, which makes it all the more difficult to find things later on. No criticism intended. Thanks for posting the other links as well.

I'm still pretty sure there's been at least one other thread about ECM recommendations (I picked a bad week to stop taking hallucinogens), with some very good recommendations in it already.

So How You Feelin' This Holiday Season?

"Scotch" will not do, my friend. We want names and ages. ....better be a single malt, too! No blends! -
Not sure, but I'm guessing we've already done this thread. I don't know how to search for it, unfortunately, since ECM is just three letters.

Pro Bowl Rosters were announced today. AFC Roster NFC Roster Tony Romo made it in - nice to see for a guy who hasn't even played a full season! And no T.O., thankfully.

Joe Smith still plays hoops? I did NOT know that.

Snidely Whiplash was a spinoff from Rocky & Bullwinkle, and is a creation of Jay Ward (who also did Dudley Do Right and George of the Jungle), not Hanna/Barbera. You're probably confusing him with Dick Dastardly and Muttley, mentioned previously. BTW, looks like someone somewhere actually made a Dastardly-Muttley mobile: And somewhere else, a Penelope Pitstop mobile:

I'd go for a nice dinner of couscous if I were considering lamb. Algerians and Morrocans make a wonderful lamb stew that is ladled on top of a bed of couscous (the whole dish is called couscous according to my Algerian friend, not just the grain). Here's a version with squash vice lamb, but you get the idea: ....I like lamb, but then I've always been a mutton for punishment.

Cowboys posted a win over the Saints tonight, 38-28. Pretty good game on the field - Vick threw 4 TD's and broke the record for rushing in a season for a QB. Romo had a solid game for the Boys, T.O. had 2 TD's and went over 1000 yds on the season. Julius Jones went over 1000 yds too, despite another mediocre game from him. Barber is the better back on the Cowboys, and should be getting 2/3 of the carries. For the three people in this country who actually still like Terrell Owens, he did something that will test their loyalty, spitting in DeAngelo Hall's face early in the game. Dude is not only a cancer, he's a classless punk. But how long have we all known that now? -
Lab in Duke lacrosse case found many DNA sources
Aggie87 replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Are you sure that *only* lacrosse members were at the party? I don't remember ever reading that, but admit to not completely staying up with this case. I'd be surprised if it were a typical college party and there weren't an extra 100 people there, friends of friends, crashers, etc. edit - when I was in college, I had friends on the school's judo team, and got invited to parties by some of the school's other sport teams. These were definitely lower profile sports, not football or basketball. But either way, I'd still be surprised if this particular party at Duke truly was limited to just lacrosse players. Heck, even other athletic department student workers and so forth probably knew about it. -

Cowboys play the Falcons tonight, but none of our local cable companies offer the NFL Network. Sheesh. I don't think the NFL Network is important enough to charge subscribers extra for, but at the same time it's frustrating not to be able to watch the 8 NFL games they have exclusive rights to, either. Outside of football season I don't imagine that channel will be as important as it makes itself out to be. Luckily, there's a way to watch this game online, I believe. -
Lab in Duke lacrosse case found many DNA sources
Aggie87 replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I agree it's good news for those individuals who were falsely accused. However, if DNA from multiple males was indeed found, that would suggest that something DID happen at the Lacrosse party. Since the Prosecution only showed the victim pictures of Lacrosse players, that's all she had to choose from when picking her assailants. But that's probably a just a sample of the larger number of people who actually attended the party. Why wouldn't a ton of their friends and other college students be at that party? Some of those guys could have been the guilty ones. If she was assaulted at that party, it's a shame the people who committed the crime probably will never be identified and held responsible for their actions. -

...New downloadable Dave Douglas music at Greanleaf/Musicstem. $7 per set, or $69.99 for all 12 sets. I wish at least some of this was released in the paperback series... Dave Douglas: Live at the Jazz Standard - The Full Book Between December 5 and 10, 2006, the Grammy-nominated Dave Douglas Quintet settled into New York's Jazz Standard for a six night run. Greenleaf Music recorded all 12 sets the group played that week. This project represents the broadest documentation of this critically acclaimed band to date. Each set, 60 minutes in length, features a unique combination of compositions and improvisations culled from previous albums -- The Infinite (2001), Strange Liberation (2003) and Meaning and Mystery (2006) -- as well as a book of new pieces recently road-tested on the Quintet's November, 2006 European tour. Includes: * 44 different compositions. * 14 new pieces never before heard on record. * 79 high-quality, excellent-sounding MP3s in 12 complete one-hour sets. * New arrangements of Bjork, Beck, Mary J. Blige and Rufus Wainwright. * Printable .pdf booket and tray card for each of the 12 sets The Dave Douglas Quintet is: Dave Douglas - Cornet; Donny McCaslin - Tenor Saxophone; Uri Caine - Fender Rhodes; James Genus - Bass; and Clarence Penn - Drums.

Current Team Salaries It's interesting, the highest paid player on the Dallas Mavericks this year is Michael Finley, who plays for the Spurs.

Here's a question I've always wanted to ask these zealots: which is worse: a gay couple who adopted two Guatemalen (sp?) girls and bring them to church and Sunday School every Sunday? Or a hetero couple who don't attend church except maybe Easter and Christmas? (The first situation is a reality, BTW. I'm sure the second one is as well; but the couple in the first situation and their kids are dear friends of mine) Just to take this from a philosophical angle, if both situations are inherently problematic according to the common rules or guidelines on which they are being judged, does it really matter which is worse? If so, then does that justify or make right the situation that is judged less problematic? That requires more thinking than most zealots are capable of. Did that say "the lesser of two evils is still evil"? edit - Mikelz' response, not your question.
