  1. There's a guy over at AAJ (see link) who might be interested in purchasing from you. He just paid $900 for the Complete Cole Trio Mosaic. ...I'm more and more appreciative of the set I picked up last year for $90, not to mention how good the music is!
  2. Hey, at least you HAVE a Waterloo and a Cheapo....not to mention the biannual Record Convention!!! I'd trade places in a heartbeat! We have a Best Buy.... edit - I've done ok in Cheapo from time to time... though I'm probably not as far along in my collecting as either of you! I picked up the Miles Plugged Nickel box there over the Christmas holidays....
  3. Based on discussions with sal & JazzyPaul in the ABB thread, I went and picked up "Light Fuse Get Away". HOLY SMOKES!!! This thing rocks!!! I really like the "Panic in the Streets" disc I picked up, which is very well worth it, but Light Fuse blew me away upon first listen. I also picked up two others (in Reno this week) - "Ain't Life Grand" and "Bombs & Butterflies". Looking forward to these as well. I don't know how this band slipped through the cracks for me previously, but I really like what I'm hearing. Thanks Sal & JP for the recs!!
  4. ...insert obligatory scolohofo comment here.
  5. Just went to check an order status (a couple of the Marvin Gaye cd/dvd combos, the Santana 1st album Legacy edition, and the Allman Bros at the Atlanta Pop Festival), and noticed that they are now offering: Carla Bley - The Lost Chords Jimmy Smith - Home Cookin (may have been there already, but is listed in the new release section) Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose Live - Awake (best of, CD/DVD combo) Robert Plant - 66 to Timbuktu
  6. Congratulations Johnny, Ms. Johnny E, and Johnny E Jr!!!
  7. Okay we just reached 1000 registered members, but newest member Stew is member #1150. What gives?

    JIM CAPALDI IS DEAD

Already posted, though not with your "commentary".
  11. Ahh thanks Bev. I wasn't aware of that one; missed it on the site for some reason. -Erik
  12. From the sound of it, he was clearly hitting the wrong knob
  13. Another optical illusion thread And another And another
  14. I like that first one - there's a larger version of it in a thread from 2003, which I think "spins" more.
  15. Anyone know if there was (or will be) a KCCC release covering the Power to Believe tour? I'd be interested in purchasing that one. I've looked on the DGM website, but I don't see anything like that (that power to believe box thing isn't apparently a concert recording per say). I could have sworn I'd seen some info on it somewhere.
  16. Sorry, but I'm not understanding this (non-musician here). What does "rendering neutral" mean in terms of a tune? Removing all traces of its character to become a mere soloing device? Eliminating it's purpose/effect? Or something else all together? If so, would a "neutralized" song have any effect at all on a listener?
  17. Old Europe isn't part of Europe anymore?
  18. The only "classic era" BN that I've purchased and then re-sold because I didn't care for it is Horace Silver's "In Pursuit of the 27th Man". Don't think that one's been mentioned yet. It has kind of scared me off of later Silver. edit - actually I'm not sure that qualifies as "classic era", even though it was RVG'd...
  19. ...think you just missed the umlaut
  20. Just noticed that the VME of Black Coffee is available at Yourmusic.com...
  21. ...it's no cowbell.
  22. Actually that's a good point! How would he have been as familiar with Miles' work as he claimed to be? To have that conversation with Miles and then for them to go out immediately and perform, unrehearsed? It's amazing they clicked so quickly, and a testament to Shorter's ability to fit in so quickly.
  23. So did Miles & Wayne not perform or record together again from Aug 62 until Wayne joined the quintet? In some ways it still sounds to me like they're over-exaggerating Wayne and Miles' unfamiarity with one another, in the description(s) of when he joined the group. Ah well, I guess I'm reading more into it than what is there...
  24. I think Stupid Dream came next. Anyway, their most recent stuff is a bit heavier and, to me, much better. Yep, Stupid Dream was the next studio album after Signify. Coma Divine was the next album, but was a live recording. There are expanded two disc remastered versions of both Signify and Coma Divine available. Both are great. There's also a two disc remastered version of Sky Moves Sideways as well (got mine autographed at the PTree show in Stuttgart in November 03). Also, if you like Signify, you might check out "Metanoia". It is a limited edition release of improvised instrumental music that they recorded during the Signify sessions. It's probably hard to find now, I'm guessing it's OOP.
