I'm choosing to believe this says it all...
  2. I caught this movie with my kids today at the local discount house. Though my expectations were kinda low, it was actually a cute kids flick, considering most of its target audience has probably never seen the original cartoons. Well, I've never seen them here on our cable system, at any rate. Anyway, towards the end of the movie, when "real life" Fat Albert was getting ready to return to cartoonland, there is a nice jazz reference. On the wall behind him in the house they're in is a framed print of the Blue Train cover! Very noticeable, and very intended to be seen. Made my day! I know of Cosby's love of jazz and his putting jazz artists on his old 80's show. Heck, I even have his cd "Where You Lay Your Head", which has some pretty big names on it. Always glad when someone who's famous for non-jazz reasons/accomplishments pushes jazz, like Spielberg did with Benny Golson...
  3. Aggie87 gets me "Fine Ass Loco", so watch your Damas and your Dinero!!! My real name gets me "the Reverend Dr. Erik Tickle"!!! I can dig it! PS - seems like we did this one before. Or was that a Mafia name? Or a Blues name? Or a rap name??
  4. I was in Reno last week, staying at the Peppermill. THey had one of their in house channels set up for 24 concert clips, mostly 70's-90's classic rock/R&B. Fun to watch. Of course, monitors were all over the place, even in the elevators! So you not only got to hear "elevator music" but you got to see it as well. And the monitors were built into the ceiling of the elevator, since everyone stares up anyway and never makes eye contact with the other passengers.
  5. Bump... I was in the store and noticed a new "dual disc" version of Kind of Blue. One side is cd, and the other is a dvd. The DVD portion contains "the Entire album in 5.1 Surround Sound and enhanced LPCM Stereo, and a 25-minute making-of documentary, Made In Heaven, featuring black-and-white film and stills, the voices of Miles Davis and Bill Evans, plus interviews and more. " I'm not sure I'm gonna jump on the dual disc bandwagon. Does anyone have this already? Is the cd portion the same remastering as the '97 version? Does that documentary make this worth pursuing either way?
  6. Hey if i were to accidentally kill Noj RIGHT NOW, I'd be the killer of the thread killer of the thread killer thread.
  7. ...maybe that's why all the other gay songs like it.
  8. Alfred - Pat's put out a number of discs since Imaginary Day (which I happen to like). Map of the World, Trio 99>00, Trio Live, Speaking of Now, and One Quiet Night. I like the trio albums and the Quiet Night disc, which is solo baritone guitar. Haven't picked up the new one yet, but really looking forward to it!
  9. From the "what will they think of next" files, courtesy SI.com: ...and here's the lilnk to Ms. Bagwell's ebay auction.
  10. Not to mention, you're going to piss the damn thing off. I've never put anything larger than a goat in my CD player. ...you got a Chupacabra in your dashboard???
  11. Hello Peggy Ann - Since you have completed the crucial step of posting your first post in a forum OTHER THAN "Offering and Looking For", you are now eligible to sell us anything you like, whether it is scratched, scuffed, stolen, missing boxes, booklets, or what have you. B-)
  12. You even have the Sears album? (see JSngry's thread here).
  13. Chuck, when you get the Parker box set up on your screen with an "add to cart" button showing, could you paste the link for that page? I'm curious to see whether this makes any difference or not. I'd hate to think yourmusic.com is alert enough to remove this one from their offerings after Chuck ordered his copy (assuming they don't want to make it available for some reason or another).
  14. Thanks for sharing that trick Chuck. I'm able to pull up the Parker box set on yourmusic.com now, where i couldn't before either. HOWEVER, there is no "add to cart" button anywhere on this page (for me). Unlike any other title i view. VERY strange.
  15. Woohoo! According to Musictap.net, "Verve Records will issue a jazz album from John Scofield called That's What I Say. This album will street a few months from now on June 7." Not sure if this is following the more straightahead vein, or the funk stuff. Stay tuned... Also, anyone know if there is a service available anywhere to make a needledrop recording onto CD-R from vinyl (for my Bar Talk LP)? I have a turntable, but it's packed away, and I don't anticipate setting it up for at least the next year (space constraints and young kids are a bad combo). Alternately I suppose I could look online for these tracks in MP3 format. Since I own the vinyl I wouldn't necessarily feel bad about doing a d/l of the music. Generally it's not something I care to do though.
  16. or this one? (ok, i'm done playin')
  17. This is the 858 Richter group, it sounds like. Originally this came out as a combination book/CD, with music that was composed by Frisell and played by him, Hank Roberts (cello), Eyvind Kang (violin) & Jenny Scheinman (violin). The music was was composed based upon his reaction to Gerhard Richter's paintings (the above album cover is one of his works). The book/cd combo is still expensive ($175 thru Frisell's website), but they have now made the cd (SACD hybrid) available separately. Looks like it's $20 separately. I have it and like it quite a bit. It definitely isn't from his Americana bag.
  18. Is this the trio each night, or some other setup? I need to figure out how to get to Chicago that week B-)
  19. ...just noticed the Norman Granz Jam Sessions box is now available, as well as a couple Elton John & Eric Clapton SACD hybrids.
  20. Up for air. Looks like I'm now heading to Vegas next week on business. Appreciate the link to the LV record stores, Catesta. Anyone been there recently, and if so are any of these particular stores more "worth" a visit on a limited schedule than the others? Thanks, Erik
  21. Okay, Yes fans, you've probably spent a chunk of your early years staring at those Roger Dean album covers, regardless of what state you were in B-) Now Roger Dean is planning to make a 3-D animated feature film, "Floating Islands", based on his artwork for the album covers (see yesworld.com). It is supposed to appeal to anyone who has liked Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Princess Mononoke. For varying levels of sponsorship, you the loyal Yes fan can get to help bankroll this venture. ($200 up to $25K). The thing I find most funny is that there has apparently been a "secret story embedded in the art", and apparently "millions" have already figured this out. The story is described as follows:
  22. I agree with Uncle Skid in that I'd be very unlikely to purchase something from a first time buyer. I'm not sure whether a minimum post-count should be required or not either. I believe the SH Forums require you to have a minimum of 10-20 posts before you can offer to sell (or buy) anything on their site. I know this because I (foolishly) put up a thread a while back that I was looking to buy some title, right after I registered, and didn't have the minimum number of posts. Seemed kind of silly to me in my case, since I was not selling something, and thereby wasn't a risk to anyone... But if you're gonna post on someone else's board, you play by the rules they set, I suppose.
