  1. or this one? (ok, i'm done playin')
  2. This is the 858 Richter group, it sounds like. Originally this came out as a combination book/CD, with music that was composed by Frisell and played by him, Hank Roberts (cello), Eyvind Kang (violin) & Jenny Scheinman (violin). The music was was composed based upon his reaction to Gerhard Richter's paintings (the above album cover is one of his works). The book/cd combo is still expensive ($175 thru Frisell's website), but they have now made the cd (SACD hybrid) available separately. Looks like it's $20 separately. I have it and like it quite a bit. It definitely isn't from his Americana bag.
  3. Is this the trio each night, or some other setup? I need to figure out how to get to Chicago that week B-)
  4. ...just noticed the Norman Granz Jam Sessions box is now available, as well as a couple Elton John & Eric Clapton SACD hybrids.
  5. Up for air. Looks like I'm now heading to Vegas next week on business. Appreciate the link to the LV record stores, Catesta. Anyone been there recently, and if so are any of these particular stores more "worth" a visit on a limited schedule than the others? Thanks, Erik
  6. Okay, Yes fans, you've probably spent a chunk of your early years staring at those Roger Dean album covers, regardless of what state you were in B-) Now Roger Dean is planning to make a 3-D animated feature film, "Floating Islands", based on his artwork for the album covers (see yesworld.com). It is supposed to appeal to anyone who has liked Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Princess Mononoke. For varying levels of sponsorship, you the loyal Yes fan can get to help bankroll this venture. ($200 up to $25K). The thing I find most funny is that there has apparently been a "secret story embedded in the art", and apparently "millions" have already figured this out. The story is described as follows:
  7. I agree with Uncle Skid in that I'd be very unlikely to purchase something from a first time buyer. I'm not sure whether a minimum post-count should be required or not either. I believe the SH Forums require you to have a minimum of 10-20 posts before you can offer to sell (or buy) anything on their site. I know this because I (foolishly) put up a thread a while back that I was looking to buy some title, right after I registered, and didn't have the minimum number of posts. Seemed kind of silly to me in my case, since I was not selling something, and thereby wasn't a risk to anyone... But if you're gonna post on someone else's board, you play by the rules they set, I suppose.
  8. There's a guy over at AAJ (see link) who might be interested in purchasing from you. He just paid $900 for the Complete Cole Trio Mosaic. ...I'm more and more appreciative of the set I picked up last year for $90, not to mention how good the music is!
  9. Hey, at least you HAVE a Waterloo and a Cheapo....not to mention the biannual Record Convention!!! I'd trade places in a heartbeat! We have a Best Buy.... edit - I've done ok in Cheapo from time to time... though I'm probably not as far along in my collecting as either of you! I picked up the Miles Plugged Nickel box there over the Christmas holidays....
  10. Based on discussions with sal & JazzyPaul in the ABB thread, I went and picked up "Light Fuse Get Away". HOLY SMOKES!!! This thing rocks!!! I really like the "Panic in the Streets" disc I picked up, which is very well worth it, but Light Fuse blew me away upon first listen. I also picked up two others (in Reno this week) - "Ain't Life Grand" and "Bombs & Butterflies". Looking forward to these as well. I don't know how this band slipped through the cracks for me previously, but I really like what I'm hearing. Thanks Sal & JP for the recs!!
  11. ...insert obligatory scolohofo comment here.
  12. Just went to check an order status (a couple of the Marvin Gaye cd/dvd combos, the Santana 1st album Legacy edition, and the Allman Bros at the Atlanta Pop Festival), and noticed that they are now offering: Carla Bley - The Lost Chords Jimmy Smith - Home Cookin (may have been there already, but is listed in the new release section) Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose Live - Awake (best of, CD/DVD combo) Robert Plant - 66 to Timbuktu
  13. Congratulations Johnny, Ms. Johnny E, and Johnny E Jr!!!
  14. Okay we just reached 1000 registered members, but newest member Stew is member #1150. What gives?

    JIM CAPALDI IS DEAD

Already posted, though not with your "commentary".
  18. Ahh thanks Bev. I wasn't aware of that one; missed it on the site for some reason. -Erik
  19. From the sound of it, he was clearly hitting the wrong knob
  20. Another optical illusion thread And another And another
  21. I like that first one - there's a larger version of it in a thread from 2003, which I think "spins" more.
  22. Anyone know if there was (or will be) a KCCC release covering the Power to Believe tour? I'd be interested in purchasing that one. I've looked on the DGM website, but I don't see anything like that (that power to believe box thing isn't apparently a concert recording per say). I could have sworn I'd seen some info on it somewhere.
  23. Sorry, but I'm not understanding this (non-musician here). What does "rendering neutral" mean in terms of a tune? Removing all traces of its character to become a mere soloing device? Eliminating it's purpose/effect? Or something else all together? If so, would a "neutralized" song have any effect at all on a listener?
