  1. Seemed to be coming for a while, but still sad to hear that Patrick Swayze has passed away. While he was never my favorite actor by any means, he seemed like a likable guy. Roadhouse is still a guilty pleasure. And his Chippendales skit with Chris Farley on SNL is a classic. R.I.P. Patrick.
  2. I wouldn't necessarily get these next, but I really enjoy some of the RCA titles and second their recommendations - Quartets with Jim Hall, Our Man in Jazz, and Sonny Meets Hawk!.
  3. You're forgetting that Buffalo now has Terrell Owens!
  4. Happy Birthday!
  5. 3-2 is a baseball score, not a football score!
  6. Out 2-4 weeks while Vick is still ineligible to play for another game. I guess Kolb will have to carry the team for at least one game. Has he looked ok yet?
  7. Happy birthday, Vibes!
  8. Nice debut by Mark Sanchez today. I expected more out of the Texans, but Sanchez seems to be the real deal...so far. Wild game-winning play by the Broncos too, to beat the Bengals. The Cowboys looked very rusty to me in the first half of the game vs. the Bucs, but played alot better in the second half. Romo threw 2 60 yrd+ TD passes, which is the first time that's happened for the Cowboys since 1962. Romo's now got 17 games of 300 or more yards passing, extending his Cowboy record. That is impressive considering his relatively short tenure, and who's come before him at QB there.
  9. I thought the same thing about 10 pages in! I remember a lot of excitement about these two....... Definitely! The recent Miles 50th Anniv. box had quite a bit of discussion too.
  10. I agree with Ron, despite it being Ron that I agree with.
  11. Are you aware of the "Progression: 100 Years of Jazz Guitar" box set that is only 4 years old? Despite its title, it doesn't stick solely to jazz, but touches on rock, western swing, and other areas.
  12. 9/13 - Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain - Bass Concert Hall 9/23 - Terence Blanchard - Bass Concert Hall 10/16 - Charles Lloyd New Quartet (with Jason Moran) - Bass Concert Hall
  13. It's still available at Amazon for $230. Gonna take a couple of weeks for them to get it back in stock, but that's about the best price you're going to find.

  15. Hidden Spam!! What will they think of next?
  16. You guys are 2 of the 3 (alongside Conn) that haven't made picks yet, but thanks for the reminders anyway! Anybody else wanna play this year? Easy to do, and it was a blast last go-round.
  17. I think the box set includes an additional DVD that houses all of the "documentaries" that are on the individual discs. If that's the case, it's a unique item to the stereo box set, which you won't get if you buy the titles individually. The documentaries are only about 3 minutes each though, so they don't appear to be of much significance.
  18. I think if you get the Mono box, then all you need are the Abbey Road and Let It Be stereo cds, and you'll have all of their official "canon" studio recordings. Except for Yellow Submarine, but as mentioned the remaining Beatles tracks from YS are on the Mono Masters set anyway. The rest of YS is George Martin's orchestral music that the Beatles don't perform on. If you want a "complete" collection, you might want to pick up the two Capitol Album box sets (i.e. the U.S. editions), the Yellow Submarine Songtrack (different than the above Yellow Submarine), Love, Let it Be Naked, the Live at the BBC set, and the 3 Anthology releases. Plus maybe the Hamburg studio recordings (out on numerous releases in different configurations), though that predates their first official Beatles release. I think that's it. At least I think that would be complete as far as CD releases - there are also things that haven't been released on CD, like the Hollywood Bowl live album.
  19. One of the local Walmarts has them out early. Picked up Abbey Road and Let It Be this afternoon. Gonna see if I can stumble onto a Mono Box somewhere and get the rest in one fell swoop.
  20. EXCELLENT! I knew you'd be all over that one, Ron! New titles: Freddie Hubbard - Without a Song Count Basie - Basie Land Gato Barbieri - Chapter Three: Viva Emiliano Zapata Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Virgo Red Oscar Peterson - Plays the Jerome Kern Songbook Quincy Jones - Explores the Music of Henry Mancini
  21. I think the Pats would rather trade a player with some years left than hold on to them until they decline. The pick the Pats got from the Raiders may turn out to be a good one, as long as the Raiders continue to stink for two more seasons. Good point - they sure picked a good trading partner. Seymour is getting older, and probably doesn't have much left in the tank - Conn probably knows better than I do about that. But getting a first-rounder out of the Raiders is gold.
  22. Great Miami/Florida State game tonight! Almost a great TD on the very last play by FSU to win it, but no dice.
  23. Texas Hill Country: A tree that grew over/around a large rock:
  24. Thanks for starting this, Free! That BYU upset was a shocker for sure. I don't know how well Oklahoma will do over the next couple of games without Sam Bradford - if they don't lose anymore, and he returns at full strength, they've got a chance to get back into the national title picture, assuming the other contenders falter at some point. The Austin paper was growsing that this hurts Texas' national championship hopes, mainly on strength of schedule, if Oklahoma doesn't bounce back strong. My Aggies won handily against New Mexico, which was nice for me to see, given that they lost their season open to Arkansas State (ARKANSAS FRIGGIN' STATE!!) last year. They've got a tough conference schedule, and are playing a ton of freshmen and younger players, so a bowl game this year is very iffy, but I think they're headed in the right direction finally, after years of Dennis "Pay me and I'll tell you team secrets" Franchione.
