  1. That's it - we put in up near Lambertville. (edit - actually a bit further north than that, maybe up near Frenchtown? I don't know exactly). That whole area of NJ is much more beautiful than what many people think of when they think NJ.
  2. Went tubing for the first (and last) time down the Comal about a month ago...a river full of drunk obnoxious college kids and no way to avoid bumping into them as you went down the river, yes. Nice and lazy....not exactly. Maybe now that school's back in session, it might be more of what it probably really was at some point. That's a good point. I lived in San Marcos for a year back in the early 80's, and back then there weren't the numbers that there are now probably. Last time I went was when school was in session too, so it was probably a bit less crowded than in the middle of summer. (Aside - I did go tubing on the Delaware River between NJ and Pennsylvania last month, there was hardly anybody on that river, and it was beautiful - went past the area where Washington crossed the river).
  3. Gave a couple of spins to John Zorn's newest release, O'o. It's mostly the same lineup as played on The Gift and The Dreamers, and has that same sort of loungy exotica feel to it. Ribot's nice on this one, as is Jamie Saft. Worth checking out if you like this particular style of Zorn music.
  4. I sure hope so. This would be a first-day-available purchase for me, if it ever does come out. Not sure why Page/Plant didn't want to capitalize on this right after the show, especially with how impressive it apparently was. This is the closest thing we have right now. That's cool, hadn't seen the show set up like that, just random song clips.

  6. Of the three, I like Austin the best. In fact, it's still my favorite city in Texas. I think living in a few other, less interesting places in Texas gives me an appreciation for what Austin offers that isn't available elsewhere. Plenty of live music whenever you want it. Beautiful hill country access. Nice lake and riverfront areas in which to play/explore. The Austin Record Convention. Nightlife along 6th Street and adjacent areas, South Congress, Guadalupe, etc. Waterloo Records (I really appreciate this store!!). Houston has very little personality to me, overall. I've got relatives that live there, and friends, and enjoy visiting them, but never really find enough things of interest to do while there. I guess there's the Johnson Space Center, which is nice, but probably not worth repeat visits. And the Natural Science Museum (and attached Butterfly Center) is well done, if you've got time and you're looking for something to do. But I can't imagine either of those things drawing in out of city/state visitors by themselves. Galveston is a 45 min/1 hr drive south, if you want beach. San Antonio is a nice, colorful city, with a fun downtown area. Good Mexican food to be found all over, plenty of small mom & pop places. The Riverwalk is interesting, despite being touristy. And the Alamo is worth a visit, obviously. Up the road in New Braunfels are the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers, both of which you can tube down, for a nice lazy day. I guess it depends on what you want to do in your spare time. If it's a variety of live music choices, Austin would be my pick.
  7. Madeline Peyroux - Bare Bones Max Roach - Quiet as it's Kept Mulligan/Desmond Quartet - Blues in Time Wes Montgomery - Down Here on the Ground Grover Washington - A Secret Place
  8. Cowboys have really dominated this game so far, and yet are losing 20-17 at the half, thanks to Tony Romo's two INTs and Felix Jones' fumble on a kickoff, which led to 17 Giants points. Should be a good second half! Surprised the Pats lost to the Jets today, they could easily be 0-2 at this point. edit - another Romo INT leads to another Giants TD, now they're up 27-24. Sigh.
  9. Not a single one of us, lol.
  10. It really is a beautiful set! I think it's funny that they packaged each of the extra ITTOD covers in separate plastic sleeves, as well as the alternate LZ1 cover. Whatz dat? I never knew about an alt LZ1 cover! Same image, just different font color...
  11. It really is a beautiful set! I think it's funny that they packaged each of the extra ITTOD covers in separate plastic sleeves, as well as the alternate LZ1 cover. I now have a few duplicate CDs that will end up in the sale/trade pile, but it seemed like the best way to get everything, at a good price. re: ITTOD, I am almost curious enough to dab a wet cloth across the inner sleeve of this one, to see if the colors show up, like they did on the original LP sleeve. Not gonna do it though.
  12. Big upset by the Huskies over USC, 16-13. Going to be interesting to see who's left undefeated by the end of the season. And Florida State is manhandling BYU, which is interesting, given BYU's prior upset of Oklahoma.
  13. Enjoying my cd quite a bit so far! How was the show last night, BF?
  14. Ahoy me hearties! It's that wonderful day once again where we all swab the decks, walk the planks, and talk like Pirates!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
  15. Arrived today - it's a beauty! Very much comparable to the Beatles mono box in craftmanship.
  16. Agreed. I think it's a subjective interpretation.
  17. If only we were all midgets. Then we could go out as Mini-Tallica. That'd be awesome. Maybe you're on to something with the mini thing.
  18. Heaven, Im in heaven And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak And I seem to find the happiness I seek When were out together dancing cheek to cheek
  19. I don't think pictures are necessary in signatures at all. They just distract from the flow of the discussion.
  20. I may have to jump on this one. Sigh. Does anyone happen to know (Matthew, I think you picked this one up already?) if the Song Remains the Same set in this box is the SAME as the recent expanded reissue?
  21. If Murphy had gotten two feet down like he did, and then got knocked out of bounds (instead of to the ground in the end zone) and then hit the ground and the same thing happened with the ball, I think the refs would have called that a catch.
  22. Just like Buffalo did, huh? Yep and Yep! The rule is fine, but it's the interpretation of "going to the ground" that leaves things wide open, for people who think that was a touchdown, and for people that don't. "Going to the ground" gives me a mental image of a guy who's diving, almost horizontal, or at least...diagonal when he's catching the ball. That wasn't the case with Murphy. After the catch and two feet down, he was knocked to the ground by the defender, sure. But at that point it didn't matter anymore - the play was over. I still say it was a touchdown.
  23. That's my favorite Trebek bit! (Conn been hitting the cheap beer early tonight!)
  24. Tour starts tonight in Seattle. Anybody in that area going to see them? BF, love to hear your thoughts about the show on Friday night after you get a chance to digest it. Did you pick up the CD yet?
