  1. Can someone confirm whether these are remastered recordings, please.
  2. I've been playing and enjoying a lot of Johnny Griffin recently, especially his Riverside releases. I'd forgotten how many albums he made for Riverside, both as leader and sideman. Here's one I hadn't played for years:

Whilst I agree that "Synopsis" and the trio with Tony Oxley is excellent, I still prefer Howard's two albums with Alan Jackson on drums - "Angle" and in particular, "The Day Will Come". Unfortunately, as mentioned above, both are now OOP and pretty hard to find at a reasonable price.

The Tony Oxley turns up fairly frequently on ebay and usually goes for reasonable prices. There's one on there now: Tony Oxley - Baptised Traveller
  5. Oh dear, me brain hurts

Yes...VERY nice, thank you. All that hair.....you wonder how they could see what they were doing.
  7. Thanks, fesler. However, I'm pretty sure that half.com only ship to the US. If you need me to receive and reship it, I can do that for you. Just let me know. There are probably also other US based board members willing to do the same for you. Thanks for the offer, felser, but I'm afraid that price is a bit rich for me.
  8. Bought this on a whim recently and it's really very good. Nice when that happens
  9. Shawn many thanks have tried this but keep getting a message "you cannot use this extension on this board" after step 4 ie http://www.jazzloft.com/p-36709-the-complete-trio-and-quartet-studio-recordings.aspx Looks like I've sorted it You can only insert images with a .jpg extension.
  10. Thanks, fesler. However, I'm pretty sure that half.com only ship to the US.
  11. I know it's a long shot but has anyone got a CD copy of this album that they'd part with for a reasonable price. Alternatively does anyone know where there's a copy for sale?...again, for a reasonable price.
  12. Well....it doesn't.
  13. Once every THREE weeks!!!!............Your hair must grow quickly...
  14. It's available as a "two-fer" with "My Romance" on Fresh Sounds Records. Needle-drop, though. Chris Anderson - Inverted Image/My Romance

    Vocalion

Where is the audience for this? There is tons of this sort of the stuff on the Vocalion site. We were told at the time that this was ephemeral music with no staying power; but it still seems to be popular. Hidden away across England there must be rooms like this where Manuel (Que?) remains supreme: How did a picture of my living room end up here?
  16. I never realised there was a "right" and "wrong" way to put the mat on! Both sides look the same to me. Oh dear, back to the drawing board......

Both these albums have been OOP for so long now that they've almost reached mythical status, so I guess for collectors they're a "must-have". I've had vinyl rips of both for many years and whilst IMO neither of them are earth-shattering, they're both worth getting especially as they have been remastered (I think?). Of the two "Harold McNair" is the jazzier, with him playing flute and tenor sax (on two tracks)in a quartet with Bill Le Sage, Spike Heatley and Tony Carr. "Flute and Nut" has him playing mainly "poppish" tunes backed by an orchestra arranged by John Cameron. Again he plays flute on all but two tracks. As for the Joe Harriot doubler, now that's a different story..........an absolute MUST-HAVE!
  18. You might find this listing helpful: Jazz in London
  19. My all time favourite of his is this: Worth it for the one track - "'Long As You Know You're Living Yours". PS the "Ralph Towner - Solstice" mentioned above is a good 'un too!
  20. Back in the day when all I played was vinyl I regularly used a zerostat gun to remove static electricity from my LPs. In fact I still have my old gun somewhere. Anyway this is what all the well-turned-out hi-fi buffs are using now: zerostat gun
  21. Jason Kenny, actually...not Bradley Wiggins. Bradley won the road time trial.
  22. I've never had any problem with them. However you can never be sure that the item you're ordering is in stock until the order is confirmed - usually the day after your initial input. Therefore if you're ordering multiple items don't forget to let them know whether you want the order held until all the items are in stock or whether you're happy to have them sent individually. All the information you need for this is on their ordering page.
