  1. Ah.......THAT Chuck
  2. You...LUCKY, LUCKY people! New York, North Yorkshire, it's a flight away for either of us! Perhaps a tad further for me. But you're right....it's all in the mind!

  4. Yes, you're right. That would have made a far better "two-fer". Ah....such is life
  5. Yep, that's the one to get. Unfortunately the first CD is a copy of the previously issued Savoy compilation "Modern Windows Suite" but the other CD contains enough good music to make this an essential purchase.
  6. I chanced on a broadcast on Radio 4 where Julian Barnes & Hermione Lee discussed this novel and so decided to give it a go. It is the first and only novel of a French writer who died in the early days of World War 1 and is very evocative of time and place. A delightful read.
  7. or Vladimir Tretchikoff?
  8. Artwork by....................?
  9. Coming out soon on Solar Records(I know it's one of Andorran labels but.....). It's paired with Hard Bop (presumably a copy of the Mosaic reissue). I really like this incarnation of the Jazz Messengers with Jackie McLean & Bill Hardman
  10. Most of the Clarke-Boland Big Band releases seem to be turning up for reasonable prices on Amazon at the moment. Like everything by them it swings like crazy. .....and NO, I didn't buy it just for the cover! Thanks to Bev for telling us about this recent re-issue. It's really very good.

  12. http://www.jazzcds.co.uk/artist_id_1383/cd_id_1827 I only know Wakeman from his sideman appearances with Westbrook and Collier. Very impressive there. Thanks for the heads-up, Bev, I've just ordered it from the Jazzcds website.
  13. Everything on the Lonehill Jazz "Complete Memorial Album Sessions" is now available on a couple of Jazz World releases at a pretty cheap price on Amazon: I suspect they're just copies of the Lonehill Jazz release.
  14. Nope, it never has. Yet another UK recording that deserves to be re-issued> It is easy to find on vinyl. Vinyl's a previous life for me, I'm afraid.

  16. Why did Bill have to say that? Cos it's true?
  17. Having read all her earlier books in the 70s & 80s I've now finally got around to reading this one from 1984. She's a lovely writer from America's school of 'gritty realism' and this is turning out to be a really good read.
  18. Wow.....I've read something by someone .......who knows someone ......who was at school with someone ......who got shouted at by John Lennon. I'M ALMOST FAMOUS!
  19. And its predecessor Dirt Farmer. The one time I saw him live, not so long ago, he was having voice problems and couldn't sing, but his playing was superb. It was a taping of Elvis Costello's Spectacle at the Apollo, and how's this for a guest list: Levon, Allen Toussaint, Richard Thompson & Nick Lowe, plus Ray La Montaigne. BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for finding this.
  20. Just received a shipping notice from my Amazon Reseller that the new Clare Fischer is on it's way
  21. Or change the title of this thread - Jonathan can do that himself: click on "edit" --> "use full editor" --> thread title at the top. Done.
  22. Good news that you have the rights to the Horace Tapscott & John Carter/Bobby Bradford Flying Dutchman recordings. Re-issues for all of those would be VERY welcome. ...and your idea about putting out the Joe Daley boxset as a limited-edition, premium product seems sound. Just don't make it so expensive that even collectors might think twice! Looking forward to receiving my Clare Fischer when it comes out shortly. I see the pre-order price has suddenly shot up to £30 on Amazon (UK)...what's all that about? Luckily I pre-ordered at the initial price of £14. Anyway, I think we should set up a thread specifically to cover your re-issue program, Jonathan. How about "International Phonograph Re-Issue Program"? Catchy, eh!
  23. Wasn't Ornette seen playing his Chappaque Suite in a French film? Or maybe it was just a soundtrack.
  24. Castro's Groove Funk Soul was scheduled for release on CD in Japan in 2007, but was withdrawn. Jordi Pujol's Fresh Sound released it as part of Teddy Edwards' 2CD-set Sunset Eyes-Complete Recordings in 2010. Mood Jazz was only reissued on CD by Collectables. Thanks, Hans. I have them both on Collectables but wouldn't mind a better sounding copy of "Groove Funk Soul". I can't imagine the Fresh Sound release sounding any better...unless someone can tell me otherwise, of course.
  25. Would make a great cover for one of ECM's more excitable releases. Such as? You don't often see 'excitable' and ECM in the same sentence...or was that what you meant...doh!
