  1. Glad to hear that it's a good 'un! I ordered mine from Hiroshi a few weeks ago & have just heard that it's on it's way. Like you, I have enjoyed all her previous albums so I'm really looking forward to hearing this.
  2. Yes, I got my copy from Red Octopus. They were very helpful in getting me through their on-line ordering process. What a shame they've closed! IMO both volumes are excellent and deserve to be more widely available.
  3. I ordered mine direct from Hazel Miller at Ogun Records today - £11.50 incl. p&p. She takes Paypal on: ogunrecords@googlemail.com

    windmill tilter!

Great news! Thanks for the heads-up, Roger!
  5. Does anyone know if this is the Chicago pianist? Anyone know anything about it? MG According to Bruyninckx: Wright Changes & Choices John Wright (p) Chris Giles (b) Steve Carow (d) Chicago, Ill., June 26, 1994 Blue Monk Please send me someone to love Watermelon man Evelyn John Brown's body My funny Valentine Summertime Why did I choose you ? The preacher Interplay/Norma (Jap)NLP9506, 5627 (CD) So, yes, I guess it IS the Chicago pianist
  6. This is excellent news........BUT.......the Henry Threadgill set has gone back, again
  7. Does anyone have an update on when or whether these Horo albums will be released?
  8. Does anyone know whether any of Richie Kamuca's three albums on Concord have ever been re-issued on CD? I've managed to put a big scratch on my vinyl copy of 'Drop me off in Harlem' and I'm looking for a replacement!

    Faith

I've just ordered 'Faith' from Hiroshi so I can't comment on that particular release, but the other two are excellent. 'Autumn Colors' has him in a trio whilst 'Song of the Unsung' has him playing solo.
  10. The UK CD versions WERE the same as the Japanese versions - I bought them both! I think there is very little chance they will ever be remastered and re-released so if you want to hear this excellent music then I'd go with whatever you can find at a reasonable price
  11. I don't think so, I've always paid him that way. Why not e-mail him and ask.
  12. Thanks for the heads-up, I've just put my order in for Open Music. I already own a copy of Electric City which I bought from Hiroshi some time ago. BTW does anyone know where I can source a copy of his Flashback album from a UK website. His German website looks a bit flaky!
  13. King Sunny Ade - Ju-Ju Music I can't believe I first heard this in 1982. A lifetime ago!
  14. Yes, I too often woke up in the middle of the night listening to his sounds on the BBC's World Service. I knew he had not been well for a while but this is still very sad news.
  15. Good news. I was sweating there for a while!
  16. I wonder if this means there's a doubt about the upcoming Henry Threadgill release. I hope not because I've sold off several of my CDs that are included in the set. Damn - that's what happens when I try to be clever!
  17. This one looks interesting: Horace tapscott with Roberto Miranda (b),Everett Brown Jr (ds), Louis Spears (cello), Melvin Moore (vln). Any idea when this was recorded, Bentsy?
  18. A really terrific evening. I especially enjoyed the Northumbrian Sketches part of the performance and have been playing the CD at home today (In fact, I found the live version better than the CD version). Also bought a copy of his new CD - 'Live at The Union, 1966' - at the performance and it's excellent. Well done to everyone concerned!
  19. According to Amazon, the CD version from Reel Recordings will be available on 6 March. I guess it won't be available 'on the night', next tuesday. What a shame! Still, I'm looking forward to what should be a terrific evening of jazz at The Southbank
  20. Warne Marsh & Lee Konitz - Two Not One Warne Marsh & Red Mitchell - Big Two ...and very nice they are too!
  21. Yes, I'm sure it is too. I've been listening to my copy of this over the weekend and it's a knockout. Strongly recommended to everyone who likes 'this sort of thing'!
  22. A couple of his late albums that I really like are: 'Lonesome Boulevard' (recently reissued as a 'Verve Original') and 'Age Of Steam' (originally on A&M but hard-to-find now. It may be available on e-music) Also the 'Gerry Mulligan meets Ben Webster' album is excellent - I'm not so keen on the 'Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz. In fact I find that there's virtually no Mulligan that's not interesting and most of the music he's produced is outstanding. Good hunting!
  23. Hopefully it will be available 'on the night'!
  24. Thanks for the update, Jetman. What a disappointment, I'd been really looking forward to getting this set soonest. Ah well, such is life!
  25. Has anyone got any inside info on when the new Threadgill boxset will actually be issued. It's 'early 2010' now!
