  1. I don't think so, I've always paid him that way. Why not e-mail him and ask.
  2. Thanks for the heads-up, I've just put my order in for Open Music. I already own a copy of Electric City which I bought from Hiroshi some time ago. BTW does anyone know where I can source a copy of his Flashback album from a UK website. His German website looks a bit flaky!
  3. King Sunny Ade - Ju-Ju Music I can't believe I first heard this in 1982. A lifetime ago!
  4. Good news. I was sweating there for a while!
  5. I wonder if this means there's a doubt about the upcoming Henry Threadgill release. I hope not because I've sold off several of my CDs that are included in the set. Damn - that's what happens when I try to be clever!
  6. This one looks interesting: Horace tapscott with Roberto Miranda (b),Everett Brown Jr (ds), Louis Spears (cello), Melvin Moore (vln). Any idea when this was recorded, Bentsy?
  7. A really terrific evening. I especially enjoyed the Northumbrian Sketches part of the performance and have been playing the CD at home today (In fact, I found the live version better than the CD version). Also bought a copy of his new CD - 'Live at The Union, 1966' - at the performance and it's excellent. Well done to everyone concerned!
  8. According to Amazon, the CD version from Reel Recordings will be available on 6 March. I guess it won't be available 'on the night', next tuesday. What a shame! Still, I'm looking forward to what should be a terrific evening of jazz at The Southbank
  9. Warne Marsh & Lee Konitz - Two Not One Warne Marsh & Red Mitchell - Big Two ...and very nice they are too!
  10. Yes, I'm sure it is too. I've been listening to my copy of this over the weekend and it's a knockout. Strongly recommended to everyone who likes 'this sort of thing'!
  11. A couple of his late albums that I really like are: 'Lonesome Boulevard' (recently reissued as a 'Verve Original') and 'Age Of Steam' (originally on A&M but hard-to-find now. It may be available on e-music) Also the 'Gerry Mulligan meets Ben Webster' album is excellent - I'm not so keen on the 'Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz. In fact I find that there's virtually no Mulligan that's not interesting and most of the music he's produced is outstanding. Good hunting!
  12. Hopefully it will be available 'on the night'!
  13. Thanks for the update, Jetman. What a disappointment, I'd been really looking forward to getting this set soonest. Ah well, such is life!
  14. Has anyone got any inside info on when the new Threadgill boxset will actually be issued. It's 'early 2010' now!
  15. Thanks for the 'heads-up'. It's available at amazon.co.uk for £7.98. Too good to miss - my order's in!
  16. Thanks MG, I think you've sorted it! I have an LP of his on Discovery called 'Jessica' which I've been looking to replace by CD for many years. However the only three CDs I've ever seen of his are 'Love You Madly', 'Calafia' & 'Jenna'. Looking closely at the tracks in your discography and comparing them with those on my LP, I see that half of 'Jessica' is on the CD 'Love You Madly' and the other half is on 'Calafia'. Problem solved - many thanks!
  17. Does anyone know where I could access a decent discography for the Discovery/Trend Record label? I'm trying to find out which of The Gerald Wilson Big Band albums actually got reissued on CD, so if anyone knows that I'd be grateful.
  18. Yep, there's four of us going. The tickets arrived this morning.
  19. The Warne Marsh/Lee Konitz 4xCD boxset is currently available at Amazon.co.uk for £15.99! Looks too good to miss...my order's in!
  20. Thanks Chuck. I've just checked and found out that Bob Cummins died in 2000 - I wonder why Chico's taken so long to make the recordings available, assuming that these ARE the ones about to come out?
  21. Isn't it funny how these threads take on a life of their own sometimes (always?). Here's me enquiring whether anybody knows how and what is being re-issued by Chico and the post then ends up being a technical evaluation of his musicianship. Me, I remember liking most of what he's recorded, especially the two 'Spirit' albums on India Navigation but then, I'm not a musician so what do I know?
  22. Yes, I have this on vinyl and it's a lovely album. I wonder why it's never been re-issued on CD...or has it?
  23. "Chico Freeman to re-issue himself back catalog During the upcoming weeks, Chico Freeman is about to put back on the market a large part of his back-catalog including the much sought after India Navigation LPs.. As an appetizer and during two weeks, radio.video.jazz gives away 16 Chico Freeman's Classics in 256 kbs. You download them either at radio.video.jazz or at Chico Freeman on GetJuke" Just seen this over at 'That Other Place" - does anyone know anything about what and how it will be made available? Surprisingly(?) there's no mention of it on Chico's website.
  24. He's playing with his Octet at The Sage in Gateshead on 26 March and I'm looking forward to seeing him again now that The Appleby Jazz Festival seems 'to be no more'. BTW The Abdullah Ibrahim Trio are playing at the Sage the day before so many thanks to them for booking a couple of first class acts.
  25. Yep, that's what I'm thinking anyway!
