  1. Man, "Get Smart" is a show I used to watch almost more than any other as a kid and yet it's one you really hear nothing about these days. Don't know if it's held up well over time, but as a kid I really dug it. ...plus...BEST opening of any T.V. series ever....
  2. I wouldn't worry TOO much. The jazz press has cover stories running the Cellar Door stuff left and right. Don't think the release would be mismanaged to that degree as far as timing would go.
  3. I saw Botti perform a ballad, perhaps "My Romance" if I recall correctly and actually really enjoyed it. Take away the good looks, nice threads and posing and there was some nice playing going on to my ears. Marketing and hype and labeling are things musicians get swept up in sometimes. I get the feeling the Botti might actually have the talent to go the "serious" route to some sort of degree and be considered as such. However, I hope I don't get stoned for saying this. I certainly don't get the same sort of sense of him that I do from someone like Kenny G or that "Bones" guy or Naji....
  4. Oh, and don't let me forget Ben Dixon either...!
  5. They don't make guys like Donald Bailey or Billy James anymore. Rarely does a drummer have a clue as to how to play with an organist. Too simplistic and un-Tony Williams-ish for guys these days.
  6. Great story and brings up the reality of music being a communal experience. Here Charlie Parker is pleading with horn players to come on stage and they're refusing. I guess it was lonely at the top.
  7. Keep us posted (no pun intended), 'cause if they do ship to the US I'd like to get a copy too! --Glenn ← Yes, me as well. I wonder what the total amount in US dollars would be. Please let us know...thanks...
  8. Jon Hendericks. Did Tootie or Jimmy Heath ever play with Bird? Somehow I get the feeling they did. Lou Donaldson, as mentioned, certainly played with Bird as there's even a photograph of it. Terry Gibbs perhaps?
  9. Sent you a PM John, happy to fill the next slot. Would like to see this continue.
  10. I'd LOVE to hear this. Why don't they domestically release this stuff?
  11. Dude - I live in Plano. about 20 miles north of Dallas, and there ain't no gas to be had right now. At least not as of this morning. People are going nuts filling up before there's a shortage, which is, of course, creating a shortage anyway. Go figure. ← Hey, I should have looked before I laughed. Couldn't find any gas here in Austin either. Finally a station that looked like they were out but actually had Premium for just $2.79. I get the feeling that's going to be a bargain price for a long, long time.
  12. Can't believe nobody went for the obvious "A-train" line. Guess it would be in bad taste.... But, at least for me, the question itself is a little morbid.
  13. Yes, it's nice to see Gov. Perry and all have really thought this thing through. (Again, our goverment officials put on their thinking caps). Maybe next time they could "Pre-position" some gas along with the MREs and Water. Just think if we go through 6 or 7 more of these hurricanes we might get all this figured out eventually.
  14. Looks like it's going a bit more east. Austin's out of the picture for any bad weather at all at this point, which is good news for us. Even 75mph winds sounded pretty frightening to me.
  15. I'll be there Sat....probably riding out a Cat. 2 by then... . Actually wonder if it will be that powerful by the time it comes over Austin. Haven't heard anything of that nature, but that storm's looking pretty darn big right now. Thinking about sending the wife and kids up to friends in Dallas just to be safe...
  16. Me and many other locals. I guess for ACL you have to be from outside the City Limits. Matter of fact, I'm playing the Continental Club on Sat., opening for Alejendro Escovedo who's very big in town, but ACL wouldn't pay him a decent salary for playing ACL so he didn't do it. ACL is notorious for not paying the locals and basically not hiring the locals either.
  17. I hope not....
  18. I actually like the Ervin title "TexBook Tenor"...has that 60's flavor that fits... ...but maybe it's just a Texas thing....
  19. No, no copy protection on this...thank goodness. Once again I want to repeat my full Stankin' endorsement on this RVG. The sound is amazing and the whole session is one of those rare organ dates where groove meets modern jazz.
  20. Bertrand, I think it was as in,.... America, as usual has it's collective head up it's collective arse...
  21. This is how you know you're in NYC... I was at a friend's apt. last year in the city. It turned into the late night hang for many musicians after their gigs that night. One pianist was talking about the gig he just got back from, "Who did you play with?" I asked, expecting some unfamiliar local name. "Oh, I play with Jimmy Cobb at his weekly gig down the street" he said. (Picture jaw dropping to floor). And to think I was just down the street and didn't see it. Just a little local gig. I would love to see Jimmy. He's just about my fav....
  22. Even if it fell off the face of the radio earth tommorrow, you still accomplished a LOT with that record as far as taking the group to the next level...congrats.
  23. Turned on the radio in my car today mid-song. Good organ groove...my friend asked "Who's this?" I listened for a few seconds, puttin' the pieces together..."Oh yeah, that's Organissimo!" Playin' it mid-day on KUT Radio here in Austin, Texas....
  24. Yeah Jim...this one is worth the upgrade. I think mine was 8.97 from CD Universe....
  25. Rudy outdid himself on this one...sound is awesome. You can really hear every instrument crystal clear and the organ sounds like it's 2 feet away.
