  1. That's pretty goddamn disturbing.
  2. I just saw where the Governer of Louisiana hired the former head of FEMA to run her operations from now on. He was the previous head of FEMA for @15 years if memory serves. Seems like we might have kept him on instead of firing him and hiring Mr. Businessman.
  3. Yeah...it's pretty lame.
  4. Damn you Jim! $6.93 to download the entire CD from iTunes...I couldn't resist.
  5. $50 bucks to fill up my wife's Toyta 4Runner. THAT sucks. And it's all a f'in' gouge.
  6. I was in SF a month ago....damn, I wish it was now!!!!! I'd LOVE to see this show. Sounds awesome. Thanks for the review and don't be a stranger!
  7. "East Broadway Rundown" could easily have been an Ayler tune. FWIW, critics early on compared Ayler's motivic improvisational methods to Rollins. I often feel that if you pursue a certain mindset on the tenor long enough and focused enough, you'll eventually end up at Ayler, no matter where you start from. His playing, especially the Spiritual Unity-era stuff, is the "logical conclusion" of so many basic jazz feelings as applied to/through the tenor. ← Funny how Spiritual Unity doesn't sound that "out" to me these days. Like you said Jim, Ayler's concept seems to be a logical conclusion of a certain way of approaching music on the tenor. Like "banging" on a piano....after you play it all...that's all that's left.
  8. If Ozarka wants to donate water. Get a bunch of Ozarka trucks and head to NOLA and pass the water out on I-10 to all the dying people!!!!! Skip the inept middle man called the U.S. Gov. and let's get this done. Plus, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of WalMart and Home Depot ads telling us how much they're helping and how we can help with them. You know what....F*** all that corporate bullshit, now's not the time. Donate to the Red Cross as a corporation and don't advertise the fact. Corporations of America need to quit their self-serving grandious "help" all their PR and Ad Agencies are helping them with and get real.
  9. Wow, one post and you're gone. Didn't even respond at all. Thanks for being such an active member of the Organissimo family. We'll all be sure not to buy any Soulive CDs!
  10. It seems to me that we should do away with Homeland Security and FEMA should be drastically reduced to a coordination center in these disaster situations. Give me the Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines) and the Red Cross. Those are the only two organizations that have actually come through and perform as expected here. If an earthquake happens in CA these are the only two agencies we should send. Everything else just seems to be beurocratic b.s. that can't pull it's head out.
  11. O.K. I guess I was wrong. From Nightline...The Convention Center is not evacuated. Also, nobody is being picked up along a huge stretch of I-10 excuse me while I yell.... CAN WE GET SOME FUCKING BUSES OVER ON I-GODDAMN-10 TO PICK UP THESE PEOPLE GODDAMN IT. THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS. I'M ABOUT TO GET IN MY CAR AND GO DOWN I-10 AND PICKUP AT LEAST SOMEBODY!!!!!!! I thought things were getting better. Help was on the way. Is there just not enough help to be had?????? I refuse to believe that. Is there really continuing to happen???? Another Photo-Op today with hollow promises it seems. Situation Normal All Fucked Up.
  12. After watching much coverage tonight, I think we a treading in very unsafe waters so to speak on one issue. That is race. Usually, I would be the first one to stand up and say NOLA was neglected because of race. But, let's be realistic here. Let's not confuse an ill conceived, under-planned and under-enacted government response with racism. I think this is heading in a dangerous direction on T.V. Not to say we don't have major racism problems in the country. I just don't think this was/is one of them. Even Wynton is saying it's sheer racism on the government's part. That seems very out of character for someone in his position. And if he's saying such a thing in the media, that's not a good sign. The last thing I want is survivors to think that white america didn't care. As far as I can tell that is just not the case.
  13. ...yeah, I think Kanye West went off-script a bit. Unless, that is, Michael Moore is on the NBC writing staff these days. P.S.---I thought Mike Meyers head was going to explode during that rant.
  14. I think that's great David put this together with James and Pete. It's always been my concern that there are MANY such jazz greats that are just not getting the work they deserve. These guys won't be around forever and hopefully, gigs like this will become more commonplace. David, please try and bring this group down here to Texas. San Antonio has been bringing in acts such as these at the Carver Center for the Arts at Trinity University. Would love to see ya'll play down this way.
  15. It looks to me that things are on track now. It took a while, but help seems to have arrived. Like one of the victims said about the arriving guard and aid, "I didn't feel like I lived in America anymore. But now I do." And that's what we all wanted to see happen. I'm pretty happy with what I've seen has been done today. To my knowledge, the Superdome and Convention Center have both been evacuated. That's real progress. There's a lot of people working themselves to exhaustion to help these people.
  16. Just saw on CNN....massive convoy of buses, troops and supplies have arrived in the city of New Orleans.
  17. I do think things will start to improve today. The criticisms reached a critical mass last night and the attitude seems to have shifted drastically today. Let's hope today's the day we really start to see some marked improvement in the amount help being given. I think it will be.
  18. Mike, You're definately more familiar with Sonny's m.o. today and from days gone by. I guess I just enjoyed hearing the melody so much. It struck me as odd and refreshing. So, to me it was enjoyable. To others who hear Sonny much, much more may be annoyed with it. I do remember John Patton also stressing the importance of the knowing the melody. He returned to it quite often in his own soloing in latter years.
  19. That's the word from someone that knows what's going on ON THE GROUND. He gives some simple solutions. Commandeer Greyhound nationwide and get those goddamn buses moving. Also, his suggestion of banning press conferences until something's done was probably a good one. To hear the Mayor break down at the end and start crying after he said "New Orleans will never be the same as we know it" was heart breaking.
  20. It might be a tired device. But let's face it, all musicians tread water musically....constantly. Most use pet licks or devices in order to gather their thoughts and think up something fresh. But of all the ways to do this, returning to the melody is the least often used by todays musicians. The idea that the head is just a neccessary evil...that's what I consider tired.
  21. Dan, T.V. or not...I don't know how those providing rescue on the ground could be unaware of 10,000-25,000 people collected at the Convention Center. N.O. Police knew they were there at least. So, not to argue the point. But I thought improved communication between law enforcement and government officials was one of the things we learned from 9/11. If this had happened in 1999 I wouldn't be as harsh of critic. But if we're still using the excuse of bad communication between agencies....I mean, come on. People have, and are, dying because of it. I'm not sure how anybody, regardless of political bent, could be happy with or defend what's been going on. Bush himself said it was unacceptable.
  22. One impression that I got from listening to this concert is something you hear in MANY old-timers, but forget. Sonny and Anderson (guess he took a nod from Sonny here) constantly return to the melody of the song. Which is quite refreshing. And a good reminder to the rest of us musicians. You just don't hear it that much anymore.
  23. I saw Ted Koppell give the head of FEMA a tremendous ass reaming last night. Ted pulled no punches and it really gave light to the fact that they had no plan to begin with and have effected none since. The head of FEMA claimed they didn't know about the Convention Center until yesterday, and Koppell pounced give the guy a ton a shit. "Well, it's been on T.V. for days, doesn't anybody from FEMA watch T.V.?" Koppel asked. You go Ted.
  24. Take it to the political forum dude. ← No. This isn't politics. You explain our president's attitude to me. ← "Explaining our president's attitude" requires a political response. We have a forum for this sort of discussion. You can look for someone there to explain it to you. ← No thanks.
