caiman or casacaiman on Amazon or half
Morganized replied to dova's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Yes, but it is quite difficult to keep track of EVERY single item in stock if your pool of CDs is huge - as is theirs. If you get a notice that says that your CD is currently out of stock, you have the option to wait or cancel your order. After you cancel it, you get a refund. I don't see the problem. This is the "problem". The on line stores are "offering" a product to sale. We "accept" their offer. Bingo.....contract. The on line store has to ship.....We have to pay. If either of those two things do not happen........There is a breach(problem) and the other side has the right to damages. The seller has the right to the agreed price.....the Buyer has the right to the benefit of his bargain. If the seller "sells" something he doesn't have, then he should have to go into the open market and purchase a replacement product for whatever he has to pay. That is the problem. You don't sell things you do not own. It is called fraud in many places. Oh yea, wanna by the Brooklyn Bridge for a millon or so? I could hold your money for 30 days and gladly return it when requested. Wonder what the interest is on a million for 30 days? This is poor business practices in anybody's book.In today's world there is no reason not to know what you have in stock. If you don't own it; don't sell it. Pretty simple. -
Do you ever feel like the Board is a Blue suit............ ..........................and you are a Brown pair of shoes? confessions of a thread killer

Excellent work BB!! -
Ditto, I have the 24bit and it sounds quite nice to these ears!!

Sorry dude, gotta part ways with you. Though I do think George's contributions to this band were outstanding (definitely better than Mobley's in '61), Wayne did so much mind-boggling stuff in his 5 1/2 years with Miles that it's not even in the same ballpark. Guy Gotta go with the Berger on this one. I was listening to the box in sequence the other day and just dropped my jaw when I put on the disc with the Shorter lineup. That unit was so tight from the very beginning. Amazing. I thought the diffference was remarkable. To these ears I think this was an easy choice for Miles. The box is great do not get me wrong. I really enjoy all the lineups. Really talking very small "improvements" here. Its just to these ears the second classic quintet was defintely the way to go.IMHO

Sorry, they don't seem to have this one. Thanks for looking BbM7. Guess its my luck.

Since they do not appear to be available on line would one of you guys in the City be willing to pick me up a copy of Curtis Fuller Vol. 3.? It would be very much appreciated. Shoot me a pm for details. Thanks
-
Yea, I know but they are running real low on their stock now. Fuller isn't even listed anymore. Thanks

Same here. I have been looking for the Curtis Fuller Vol. 3........See any of those?

I have all of those. Love the Ammons and the Hawes. I have praised the improved sound on the K-2 several times on this Board. I really agree with Late in this regard. Although I continue to pick up most of the RVG's that come out, I find less improvement in the quality of the sound than I find with the K-2 series. I must also say that I generally find the sound of the OJC's to be quite good in the first place but I can recoginize a discernable difference in the K-2's generally. Unfortunately, that is not always the case with the RVG's and on occasion I prefer the previous version. Just my two cents, but the K-2 are diffinently worth the investment if you have a session that you particularly enjoy, I would not hesitate.

What a shame! I think Sonny's RCA work is some of his very best. I really began to appreciate Sonny after spending considerable time here. I would love to hear some of his live work during this same period. Jim, are you also aware of Sonny's objections to their release?

I have heard this recording recently. It is an interesting date. The lineup is Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Walter Davis on piano and Jymmie Merrit on bass I believe. Playing is great as you can imagine. nice version of Like Someone in Love, and the "recently" recorded Lester Leaps In. Blakely introduces the tunes. Great playing....sound leaves something to be desired, definitely not the best IMHO.

Don't know that I can help alot, but unfortunately I am old enough to remember when many of these models were coming onto the market. The 909 number probably means you have 90 watts per channel continuous power over some range that I can no longer remember. The DC part use to be advertised as direct current which I understood meant that sound did not have to go through a tuner or other filters which could magically distort it in some way. It was probably some kind of advertising gimmick or something. Bottom Line......This was an excellent product in its day and if totally refurbished it is probably as good if not better than much of what you can by in the solid state amp market. You only need to recall that the exchange rate in those days was about 250 yen/dollar and these babies were not cheap. In today's dollars it would take a lot to match the quality of the internal parts......at least that is what I have been told. Good luck.

And how do we know this? They haven't screwed anyone yet, have they? Someone was willing to shell out some pretty big bucks for a catalog of music, much of which is arguably getting ready to lose its copyright protection in Europe soon. I don't think they would do so with the intent of letting this music die....... Maybe a little optimism is in order here!

That would probably be my first bet, as his Blue Note material is really all I'm familiar with, so this would be a good way to start branching. I have Go and Our Man in Paris on CD. I must admit to not fully "getting" his playing- I enjoy some of his fresh interpretations of bop standards but sometimes it seems a little gimmicky. I also feel I have to develop a greater patience for his ballads, as I do for anyone's ballads (I still get ansy listening to Rollins play slow because to me he's much more exciting fast). I found your feelings about Dex to be very familiar as you can see. I will say that I now can appreciate Dex on BN but he really never clicked for me until I started listening to his Black Lion "Live at the Montamare" series, The Other Side of Midnight; Body and Soul; and Take the A Train. That did it! Most of his Steeplechase/Black Lion stuff is recorded with his "regular" band and is just fantastic-----Kenny Drew on piano etc... If you want to "get" him, I would recommend you start here. That Steeplechase box is very high on my list!

You should keep the spanish "True Blue", which is a TOCJ remastering and sounds perfect. I've got that one, the JRVG of "Basra" and the MFSL CD of "Night in Tunesia", so I will pass on this batch. Excellent suggestions! I expect that is what I will do. I think the Spainish version of True Blue sounded excellent. I was just glad to get it at a reasonable price.
-
Got the Spainish version of True Blue and all the others except for Heavy Soul which I am sure I will pick up. This is the best set yet. Hell I may upgrade them all. This is prime Blue Note country.

Who you used to NOT get, but now do

This may sound a little strange but I would say for me it has been Dexter Gordon. I never really understood why some considered him the master that he is. I have been listening to a lot of his Steeplechase recordings lately and finally appreciate his unbelievabe talent and energy. Up until recently it was like, Dexter, oh yea, some nice ballads, yada, yada, yada. Not anymore..... what a player. He has trememdous control of his horn, he works quotes in almost effortlessly.... great style and presence. I finally get it. A true giant! -

I'll second that!

That is what I was refering to. I think there were a number of players moving into fusion at about the same time. Check out the new Bobby Hutcherson Conn. Some seemed to make the shift a lttle more seamlessly than others!

I picked up an old OJC release of the Final Sessions and have had it in the regular rotation quite a bit lately. I would second some of the comments in the piece on Hope. I think these sessions show a much more mature player. A Night in Tunsia is a real highlight but the session as a whole is at least equal to, if not superior to his Blue Note work. IMHO

According to AMG: December 9, 1964 John Coltrane records his jazz masterpiece, A Love Supreme. A moment of silence please!!!
