  1. Welcome Crutch!! Don't be shy....You are right. There are some folks around here that know more about jazz than I will ever know. (and I include Chuck in that group) Still, I think you will find us to be a friendly sort for the most part.....and you will learn a lot. Hang in there.
  2. I think all of the above apart from 'Congo Lament' have previously been out as Conns. They all need to be available again though. The Harold Vick in particular. Not sure 'Congo Lament' has ever been on CD (I have an LP of it with the weird monkey-in-earmuffs jungle scene ). Good music though ! Actually Congo Lament is partially issued on the excellent Bennie Green Mosaic Select (five tracks with Ike & Turrentine on tenor, with Green, Sonny Clark, Milt Hinton & Art Blakey). Cuscuna states in the liners that these sides and three quartet tracks were issued in 1985 as "Easy Living" on BST 84103. I would love to hear those quartet tracks also, described by MC as "among his (Quebec's) finest moments on tape". One of the biggest surprises I have received by the members of this board occurred when no one here wanted a used CD copy of Easy Living that I had spotted in a shop I frequent. It was an excellent copy and I offered it to the members at what would be my cost....about $13 and that included postage. I have a copy and it is an excellent session IMHO. Other members confirmed this I believe. That was a real surprise. Couldn't believe that bunch of folks here were not looking for that one..I just let it pass on. Figured everyone must have already had it. Guess you never know.....It is a great session.
  3. Yes! That really is super news.
  4. Sorry, you're Late!
  5. I voted for that one as well. Should show at least 2 votes.......I recently picked this one up, mainly for the art work. I was pleasantly surprised by the music actually. Very nice.
  6. Looking forward to the Johnny Griffin (bonus tracks!) and Duke Pearson. I picked up The Spoiler recently(should of known it was going to be RVG'd) It is a good date. I do not have the Silver,Byrd or the Hill, of course, and will pick those up. The rest I have in some format. The Clubhouse is a nice Dexter and I agree with the comments about A. T.'s Delight.... Undercurrent is a must have! Nice bunch I think. Now when are they going to release Curtis Fuller Vol. 3? I figured it would be on it's way after all those Spanish releases. Seems many of those have been RVG'd....
  7. Hey SS................ever tried a little lighter fluid on a paper towel or rag????? Try it.....you'll like it! Of course, remove the sticky thing first. Clean up the residue per above.
  8. Yea, I just received the same email. Could it mean a Sept. closing for the brick and mortar stores?
  9. With the exception of Here to Stay, I have all of these. I will defintly pick that one up. I like Happenings quite a bit. The rest of the group I would not rate as the artist's best although all are interesting in their own way. IMHO.
  10. A couple of mine still had the metallic anti-theft device on them suggesting that they had once been in a retail shop. Maybe some of these are the returns they receive from their retail suppliers. They could be sucking these up from their distribution chain. I think that retailers have the right to send a portion of the unsold merchandise back. Maybe one of the guys in the music biz can explain the process better but that could explain why certain cds go off the list and then come back on at a later date?/?
  11. Hello kh, Glad to hear that Walter Bishop, Jr. is not a total dud. I was a little worried about that one. I missed the Winchester and the McPherson. Don't know what I was thinking! Have the others but havn't gotten to them yet. I have been enjoying the Jazz in Hollywood stuff. This is West Coast Jazz in its purest sense.
  12. Ep 1..... From the sound of your post you may be disappointed. It is pretty much a straight ahead session...Just recently got it and havn't listened to it but a couple of times but it is not a Sonny's Dream,....at least not to me. IMO........ Maybe the best thing to do is give it a listen.
  13. I purchased both of these, but I havn't opened either one yet.....guess I'll start with Earthy and wait on the Kenny Drew. I love Kenny, though. The comments so far on that one do not surprise me.I have found his stuff to be hit or miss.
  14. Thanks Stefan but, of course, the first one out of the batch is one that I did not order. I will have to keep an eye out for that one but my cd budget is way out of balance this month......if you know what I mean. Myself, I have been listening to the Herbie Harper. I have been in a serious West Coast mood of late and this one fits the bill. Has all the usual suspects, Jimmy Rowles, Marty Paich, Bud Shank, Bob Gordon...etc. Some really nice, very early, cool jazz. Thanks again.
  15. Chet terrible??
  16. Mine arrived today. All 34.. Wish I would have ordered more!
  17. According to the latest round of Concord e-mails, my orders were filled by some guy named 'Chewy, Chew Chew's Brother' and they've all been packed with the wrong cds and sent to the wrong address!!
  18. Some of you guys in the music business can evaluate this better than I. Is this good news or further dilution of the brand? Blue Note news release
  19. Wait a minute, wait a minute....Just wait a minute!!! Does that mean that you, SS1, are pleading guilty to being Conn.'s "ding" button?? . . . . . . . . . Case closed. just kidding, just kidding.
  20. Just went down the membership list. I am sure I may have omitted some. I can assure them that no slight was intended. Like I said, I have yet to have a negative experience, either as a Seller or a Buyer. Looks like you have a pretty good list yourself. In fact there are a couple there that I remember dealing with as well. For the record, I agree with you about public "outing". There is no need to let one bad apple ruin the bunch IMHO. We all know that only the highest standards of ethics will be tolerated by Board members and that is the way it should be. I appreciate being alerted when someone falls short of this standard. With that said, I believe that Most matters can and should be resolved in private and should never require public notice. We all know that everyone is reasonable on this Board........well almost everyone!
  21. Once again, I have to shed some tears for poor Morganized.... These responses are more in line with what I expected....It was a joke guys as all the following Board Members with whom I have traded in the past will attest!! Just to name a few: sheldonm chris testa jazzkrow doubleM Jazz Groove MartyJazz frankc jacknife Abution II Undergroundagent mgraham333 ralphie_boy Peter Johnson jacknife-Conn' Dmitry-Freap danasgoodstuff wulfman sjarrell Hank Parkertown Bol etherbored chris olivarez Hardbopjazz David Claypone Aggie 87 If I got any better at buying stuff offered by Board Members I would be broke, broke broke....... Recently, however, I have been amazed at how fast stuff has been moving. That Mobley set last night went 13 minutes following the intial post. Is that a new record? Was that you Conn. that snagged that one? I think it is great that we can trade so freely here and I can say that I have not had one bad experience with a Board Member with whom I have done business, either as a Seller, or a Buyer. After that Concord sale I expected things to slow down a little. By the way, I got confirmation on the ugh..ugh...34 that I purchased! Everything that I ordered has shipped! And about the post....It was meant tongue-in cheek....We get bombarded on TV down here with a Southwest Airlines commercial advertising a "ding" button to cash in on their cheap trips.....Thought it might help me out if I could get one!!! Maybe I wouldn't miss the "good" stuff!! Thanks guys for all the suggestions..Now that I know all of your secrets....Watch Out!!! just kidding, just kidding.... Best to all ~M
  22. Since all of us who placed orders should be receiving them soon, I would be curious to learn of any new personal "finds" that board members may have discovered. If you were like me, at those prices I was much more willing to take some chances and picked up some artists that I may have skipped in the past....and/or upgraded for improved sound on some old favorites that I would not have duplicated. I already know that there were some in the Concord sale that I now wish I would have added to my list, but a guy has to draw the line somewhere...well doesn't he! Anyway, I would be interested to hear which ones you have enjoyed most. Which artists were a pleasant surprise for you? What did you particulary like about them? Which discs had improved sound that really made a difference to you? Which disc turned out to be a dud....etc. etc. After looking at the poll taken showing the number of discs purchased at the Concord sale...I realize this could take some time. Good listening!
  23. True. But in light of the apparently overwhelming response to this sale, I wouldn't be surprised if the next sale went out at somewhat higher price points... Perhaps, but if what they are trying to do is move out inventory and discontinued items they may have hit a homerun by selling them straight to the public. Maybe Chuck would tell us what they could expect to get unloading the same type of stuff through their retail channels. My guess is about the same if not less.
  24. No one disagrees with the "patience" comment. I think we were just trying to figure out the processing. Concord says they process sequentially, but some members with later orders have received confirmations while earlier orders have not... That is all.
  25. It always sucks when size matters. How the hell do you sleep in a PO box? When Ann understands what I have done I may need to move there. I placed two orders -- #5551 and #5610 and have heard nothing except my initial confirmation. There seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason as to how these things are being filled. My only thought is that maybe they have different people filling different orders and whether you received an e-mail yet depends upon how those individual people handle the processing. It's as good a theory as any! Just a thought but could it be they are processing the orders that do NOT have free shipping first. Quick poll. Did all of you guys that have received a second confirmation have to pay for shipping? I would suggest that Concord be a little careful with this bunch.....If the early purchasers are discriminated against they may discover that Lebanon looks like a walk in the park.....
