  1. Way to go, Paul. You've got game!!!!!
  2. I've been digging it a lot, too. I've been hearing some local buzz that there will be more E.S. released in the future. I'm hoping that there are enough tracks floating about that this is true, and for as long as possible!
  3. WTF!?!?!?!?! This thread might just help me pay my water bill!
  4. Have a great B-day, Conn!!!
  5. So are the Jazz (3-0), winning by 20-30 per game. I'm liking the addition of Carlos Boozer quite a bit these days!
  6. I agree about the book, it's a MUST read. Even for those who aren't jazz-inclined.
  7. This Jazz fan must agree w/ Bruce W. on that one. That isn't Bruce Willis, is it?
  8. I thought I'd resurrect this thread to tell a funny joke told to me recently by Bob Mover. -This trombone player gets hired to play an annual big band gig for good dough on New Year's eve. At this gig his playing was superb. He read the book quite well, and improvised his ass off on the tunes. So, the band leader takes him aside after the show, and tells him "Man, you can really play. We've been needing a good bone player for this New Year's gig for a while. So, consider yourself hired each year, if you want it." The trombone player excitedly accepted the praise and offer, and asked..."Is it okay if I leave my horn here?".
  9. I get 'em at Walgreen's when they are on sale (which is quite often), for 4 or 5/$1.00. These are the padded w/ bubbles-type.
  10. Fuck!!! I wasn't expecting a series after 3-0, but who was?!!! Anyone going to watch tomorrow's game?
  11. Happy B-Day, Chris.
  12. He's playing with a local pianist and drummer (Dan Gaynor and Ron Steen, respectively). I'm not sure who's bassin'. I was talking to Bob today, and he told me of something interesting that Stanley Crouch recently told him. They're working on a tv program for BET. Crouch said that there were only two white musicians who could really play the music...Warne Marsh and Bob Mover. Now he wasn't telling me this in a self-congratulatory way, but more of a "Stanley is opinionated" way. I'm taking a lesson from him next week. I can't wait.
  13. I'd be happy to move it, if I knew how. I thought about it, and figured that since I was mentioning that he's giving lessons while he's here, that it was more than a "Live Show"--type of situation. Anyway, it should be a kick-ass show!!!
  14. I've broken nearly everything, been stitched up more times than I can remember. I'll have to tell some stories when I'm not about to watch the game.
  15. Bob Mover, Alto and Tenor player extraordinaire, is here in Portland for a week. I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone in the area to check him out. He's the real deal, folks. He played w/ Mingus, Chet Baker, Hank Jones, to name a few. He also sings well, and gives lessons in both (improv and singing). So, he's at Bluemonk this weekend, on SE 34th and Belmont, and I'll be working the door so mention Org.org and I'll try to swing you a deal . This might seem like spam, but it's really just on opportunity to see and/or study with a hella great player. I have his contact info, too... so if anyone wants to study with him while he's here contact me. Matt
  16. Man, what an offensive outpour by the Yanks. I just watched the last 3 innings in a sports bar, and I was one of two Yankees fans (to 100 or so BoSox fans). I had to contain myself there near the end, when inside I was giggling with glee!!!
  17. Jousts--OP w/ Clark Terry, Diz, Roy E., Sweets Edison, Faddis et al.
  18. Keith Jarrett, Koln Concert (sp).
  19. From what I've read (for whatever that's worth), they're leaving it up to him to decide if he makes it back, and supplying him with a private plane with which to return. I don't think there's anything more than this that a team can do. I mean, it's the freakin' playoffs, so sure they might gently encourage him to try to get back for the first game. Go Yankees!!!
  20. Houston seems to be off to a good start tonight. If Rivera isn't able to play tomorrow, there's more cause for concern. But, I can easily see the Yankees' bats making up for his absence. Should be a great series!!!
  21. Trane/Hartman, but I also really dig Chet Baker's version w/ Russ Freeman.
  22. Well, I had to look up the age of my favorite alto player, and dammit...he's 52. Bob Mover. Kicks ass on alto/tenor. Under 50? I've got to do some listening!!!
  23. I've been immersed in the readings of JOE BIALEK. Guy's a fucking genius!!!
