i.d. this musician photo (rahsaan roland kirk sideman)
l p replied to l p's topic in Miscellaneous Music
the photographer is Michael Wilderman. he does not know who the guy on the right is, but he thinks that it's the drummer. it could also be the drummer John Goldsmith in the photo. -
The only non-hendrix rock music that i have is Lou Reed's 1978 u.s. tour. Maybe now rca will finally release the complete live sessions for the May 1978 bottom line, nyc "Live: Take No Prisoners" album. I've been wating for years.

to the right of rahsaan roland kirk. it may be the drummer sonny brown, but not sure if it's even a drummer in the photo. could be a percussionist/conga player. photo is from 1974/1975. thanks

1st tune "Moon Child" is that Leon Thomas on vocal? some discographies list pharoah on the vocal for this tune, but it's not him. at least one web page agrees that it's thomas http://www.kalamu.com/bol/2010/01/18/leon-thomas-%E2%80%9Cleon-thomas-mixtape%E2%80%9D/ here is a link to the tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkSb94zqZnE https://play.spotify.com/search/pharoah%20sanders%20moon%20child thanks

thanks. most of the labels on the vinyl copies list "Lumkili" as on side b only. but i found at least one that lists this tune as split across two sides. it's hard to make out. i saw a better photo yesterday, but can't find it now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PHAROAH-SANDERS-LIVE-AT-THE-EAST-LP-French-1973-/321150250668?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4ac60beeac#ht_627wt_609

it seems that some lp pressings list "Memories of Coltrane" as 18min instead of 12min. is this just an error? link to lp label that says 12min http://www.cdandlp.com/item/2/0-240402-0-1-0/115121151/pharoah-sanders-live-at-the-east.html link to back cover that says 18min http://www.ebay.com/itm/PHAROAH-SANDERS-Live-at-the-East-jazz-LP-on-IMPULSE-orig-PROMO-wlp-NM-SUPERB-/380726984644?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item58a518bfc4 thanks

The recent Storyville "100 Years-Forever Young" included tracks from a December, 1953 Boston date, but that is with Gildo Mahones on piano, not Horace Silver. too bad this Storyville "100 Years-Forever Young" info wasn't posted in the 'new releases' section 3 years ago.

Archie Shepp "Un Pot D'eau Trop Chaud" Parisian Concert cd
l p replied to l p's topic in Discography
well, there are only about 4-5 official and bootleg shepp concert releases from the 1970's. for me, live 1970's shepp is hit and miss, mostly depending on the tune being played. btw, someone claiming to be shepp replied to my email: Subject: re: [Fwd: Archie Shepp - Parisian Concert, Vol. 2 CD] Yes. "Things Have Got To Change"; written by Calvin Massey. Sincerely AShepp >Archie Shepp - Parisian Concert, Vol. 2 CDImpro vol. 2 >track 6. Un Pot d'Eau Trop Chaud (19:14) >is the correct name of this tune "things have got to change"? >thank you -

l p replied to l p's topic in Discography
i don't have it. it seems to be a bonus track on the cd version of the EPM Musique release. i suspect that it is "things have got to change". -

i have the film. the only live footage is some very small clips from a 1966 european show, 1970 fondation maeght, and silent new york eye and ear control. but it's mostly talking heads. all the live footage probably totals to about 5 minutes. -
thanks. not surprising that this label wouldn't be able to get unissued material from the verve vaults. i'm still hoping for a verve and a&m box sets without the overdubbed orchestras.
-
what are the newly issued items on this box? thanks
