  1. i think that i recently saw a quote in either the early fuji discography or the jc reference, something like: 'despite giving up drugs and alcohol, coltrane continued to smoke [cigarettes] for the rest of his life'. i think the consensus is that he stopped drinking.
  2. yes, there are sun ra completists who have all the releases. i think the sun ra item is either 1973, or 1978-79. it's the only item in this bft that i recognize as having in my collection.
  3. 6. i think is sun ra mid-1970's. i have this recording somewhere, even if it's not sun ra.
  4. gone
  5. "... for the first time on any format..." this is true. 10-14: May 17, 1958. this bonus broadcast has been released many times before. [15-16] *Bonus Tracks: (15): Miles Davis (tp), Nat Adderley (cnt), Cannonball Adderley (as), Bennie Green (tb), Gerry Mulligan (bs), Red Garland (p), Barry Miles (d), Chris Nirobe, Candido Camero (perc). Art Ford Jazz Party TV Show, New York, November 1958. losin doesn't list Art Ford Jazz Party TV Show, New York, November 1958. so it must be without miles (fake). http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Query.aspx?q=M&t=0&c1=0&n1=0&v=1&vv=Caf%c3%a9+Bohemia&c2=0&c3=0&m=0&e=0&y=0&n2=0&c4=0 coltrane September 15, 1956 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet September 29, 1956 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet April 13, 1957 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet rollins July 13, 1957 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet July 20, 1957 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet July 27, 1957 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet coltrane May 3, 1958 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet May 17, 1958 Café Bohemia, New York Mutual Network radio broadcast Miles Davis Quintet
  6. Miles Davis "Unissued Café Bohemia Broadcasts" (Domino 891221) (2013) with Coltrane 45 minutes of previously unissued material from September 15, 1956; September 29, 1956; April 13, 1957.
  7. well, that solved a 20 year mystery. thanks
  8. 1 http://picosong.com/cvLb/ first recording would probably be before 1974. the style sounds like early 70's blue note/CTI/Hank Crawford tune? 2 http://picosong.com/cv2N pat metheny 3 http://picosong.com/cv2T pat metheny since metheny likes ornette coleman, maybe they are coleman tunes? 4 http://picosong.com/cv27 1950's? 5 http://picosong.com/cvVY Joe Diorio guitar and probably Attila Zoller guitar. sounds a bit like diorio's "Talla Sunshine - Naima Rainbow, Dance for Their Father", but it's not the same tune. 6 http://picosong.com/cvVf only the 1950's? tune was definitely released on a record, which is heard here. it's possible that the other tunes were never recorded by anybody. thank you
  9. i have the complete concert arias decca 5cd box, but can't find any reference on the web to a box of arias from the complete operas (don giovanni, magic flute, etc.) does such a thing exist. preferably the female arias only. thanks
  10. >>.She recalled the time when a well known jazz musician passed and he was asked to play at the funeral. Lee told her that he could not do it because he did not have any shoes.>>> yes, this makes me want to believe the whole interview. they always paint themselves as saviors. it's like there's a 'how to' book for wives of dead musicians that they all check out from the local library.
  11. obviously a great comic, but a terrible film actor. i did like these movies that he was in The World According to Garp The Survivors (1983) (this is a hidden gem) Moscow on the Hudson The Fisher King
  12. in case anyone else needs this, it seems to work. need latest version of winamp, then winamp plugin http://www.surina.net/pacemaker/ activating the plugin http://www.surina.net/pacemaker/doc/install.html
  13. i need to slow down the playback speed of some of my audio cd's when plaing them on my computer d-drive. is this possible to do without having to first rip the cd's to the computer (i know that it's easy to do with WMP once the cd is ripped to the computer). i need some kind of program that will tell the d-drive to slow the cd down by 5%, 10%, etc. does such a program exist? thank you

    Norah Jones

i'll steer this thread back on topic, which is that the LOVE ACTUALLY is one of the worst british films of the past decade.
  15. i don't think we can tell for sure that the photo was taken in 1967. http://www.mcrfb.com/?p=17857
  16. but how did it happen all at once. was a letter sent out to everyone? i could understand it if everybody slowly migrated to wearing their own choice of clothing over a period of a couple/several years.
  17. what happened here. did the union tell the musicians that it was ok to wear clothes other than suits and ties? it seems that everyone, all at once, started wearing clothes of their choice after 1967.
  18. Thank you for the info. Yes, i think that the couple of online sources that give 1975 as the release date are probably correct. Maybe someone on this board will remember a 1975 (maybe 1976) nyc club date when both silver and mingus were on the bill, shortly after the release of "Silver 'n Brass", and they'll post the exact date or week, and we'll all live happily ever after.
  19. (recorded 1/75). anyone know the month/year of release? thanks
  20. i don't know how obscure he is, but i was very impressed with John Foster's solo on a blues on a mingus 1972 european concert.
  21. here are some pages from the book. http://www.amazon.com/ART-Why-Stuck-Junkie-Jazzman/dp/1494297574/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400248224&sr=8-1&keywords=Laurie+Pepper+-+Why+I+Stuck+with+a+Junkie+Jazzman#reader_1494297574
  22. from what i've gathered from the above posts, and wiki, he is not a jazz musician.
  23. maybe he know if the wes montgomery verve session tapes exist without the orchestras. most of those wes verve/a&m albums would be masterpieces if it wasn't for the bombastic backing orchestras.
  24. biopics always suck. even if the writing is good, 2-3 hours is just not enough time to tell the story.
