1 http://picosong.com/cvLb/ first recording would probably be before 1974. the style sounds like early 70's blue note/CTI/Hank Crawford tune? 2 http://picosong.com/cv2N pat metheny 3 http://picosong.com/cv2T pat metheny since metheny likes ornette coleman, maybe they are coleman tunes? 4 http://picosong.com/cv27 1950's? 5 http://picosong.com/cvVY Joe Diorio guitar and probably Attila Zoller guitar. sounds a bit like diorio's "Talla Sunshine - Naima Rainbow, Dance for Their Father", but it's not the same tune. 6 http://picosong.com/cvVf only the 1950's? tune was definitely released on a record, which is heard here. it's possible that the other tunes were never recorded by anybody. thank you

The Lady Who Shot Lee Morgan
l p replied to bebopbob's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
>>.She recalled the time when a well known jazz musician passed and he was asked to play at the funeral. Lee told her that he could not do it because he did not have any shoes.>>> yes, this makes me want to believe the whole interview. they always paint themselves as saviors. it's like there's a 'how to' book for wives of dead musicians that they all check out from the local library. -
obviously a great comic, but a terrible film actor. i did like these movies that he was in The World According to Garp The Survivors (1983) (this is a hidden gem) Moscow on the Hudson The Fisher King

need to slow down playback speed of audio cd's on computer d-drive
l p replied to l p's topic in Audio Talk
in case anyone else needs this, it seems to work. need latest version of winamp, then winamp plugin http://www.surina.net/pacemaker/ activating the plugin http://www.surina.net/pacemaker/doc/install.html -
i need to slow down the playback speed of some of my audio cd's when plaing them on my computer d-drive. is this possible to do without having to first rip the cd's to the computer (i know that it's easy to do with WMP once the cd is ripped to the computer). i need some kind of program that will tell the d-drive to slow the cd down by 5%, 10%, etc. does such a program exist? thank you

i'll steer this thread back on topic, which is that the LOVE ACTUALLY is one of the worst british films of the past decade.

i don't think we can tell for sure that the photo was taken in 1967. http://www.mcrfb.com/?p=17857

but how did it happen all at once. was a letter sent out to everyone? i could understand it if everybody slowly migrated to wearing their own choice of clothing over a period of a couple/several years.
-
what happened here. did the union tell the musicians that it was ok to wear clothes other than suits and ties? it seems that everyone, all at once, started wearing clothes of their choice after 1967.

Thank you for the info. Yes, i think that the couple of online sources that give 1975 as the release date are probably correct. Maybe someone on this board will remember a 1975 (maybe 1976) nyc club date when both silver and mingus were on the bill, shortly after the release of "Silver 'n Brass", and they'll post the exact date or week, and we'll all live happily ever after.
-
(recorded 1/75). anyone know the month/year of release? thanks
-
i don't know how obscure he is, but i was very impressed with John Foster's solo on a blues on a mingus 1972 european concert.

maybe he know if the wes montgomery verve session tapes exist without the orchestras. most of those wes verve/a&m albums would be masterpieces if it wasn't for the bombastic backing orchestras.

biopics always suck. even if the writing is good, 2-3 hours is just not enough time to tell the story.

Thelonious Monk Late Black Lion Recordings, Post-Columbia
l p replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Artists
another good thing about the 71 london sessions is that there are no horns. -
maybe with this book title, the author is letting us know that her main intent is to write about how she heroically got him off, and helped him stay off drugs. in that case, the title is fine. all i remember of the first book is a lot of complaining about crow jim in the jazz world. >> have tried and have ((had)) a lot of his material>>> yep.
-
the book title is in extremely poor taste. it will probably dwell on the junkie aspect. but i don't think that you can, or should expect a well written book from a relative/non-professional writer. she's releasing more cd's than sue mingus ever did, but whereas sue did give us that unknown 64 cornell show, i'd bet that the pepper material is probably not new to collectors. the relatives of dead jazz musicians always have attitude problems.

a funny/bizarre customer review of GG -Live At The Lighthouse http://www.amazon.com/review/R1TP1DSSE7OBD6/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000006DGG An amazing album for both hardcore jazz folk and newbies, April 26, 1998 By A Customer This review is from: Live at the Lighthouse (Audio CD) Two years ago, a friend and I drove from NYC to Atlanta for a weekend at the Olympic Games. We had a cassette copy of an scatchy old LP release of this recording. We drove all day and night both directions and the cassette didn't leave our deck. He and I listened to Grant for 18 hours straight, twice, and may (sic) times after, and still have yet to tire of this rocking album.

i think if you re-record onto an old cassette, then after a time you will hear the bleedthrough. if you re-record onto a fairly new cassette, then it's ok.

reminds me of a funny story about a classical pianist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Hatto#Fraud http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2125348/Pianist-Joyce-Hatto-Husband-reveals-fooled-world-fake-recordings.html In February 2007 it was announced in a series of articles in Gramophone and the magazine's website (after editor James Inverne commissioned an intensive investigation from audio expert Andrew Rose and others) that the CDs ascribed to Hatto had been discovered to contain copies, in some cases digitally manipulated (stretched or shrunk in time, re-equalised and rebalanced), of published commercial recordings made by other artists.
