Lenny White 'Venusian Summer' 1975 is larry young on only one tune on this album.
-
the miles davis 1964 appearance on the steve allen show exists on video.

there is a second sax. tenor. because there is a rhythm section, this is the most accessable lancaster as-leader show that i've heard. this show is unissued.

"More Radio Rarities" (jasmine) http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...&cart=244123874 two excellent shows from the Panther Room, Hotel Sherman, Chicago, December 1940; and a short broadcast from NBC Studios, July 5, 1938.

i like witches and devils, aka spirits. for some reason it sounds like a mellow session. and the 1969-70 material is probably underrated. the various versions of the tune 'prophecy'. and summertime on 'my name is albert ayler', that's some sweet stuff. but basically, i'd get all ayler.

jc didn't vary his set lists from one show to the next very much on the 1961, and then on the 62-63 euro tours. by taking mostly only portions of concerts, this set unfairly emphasizes that problem. i wouldn't recommend this box, except for the few complete shows that it has. i'd look for the complete shows.

there should be a fast-forward button on your remote control.

need info about an obscure billie holiday dvd
l p replied to l p's topic in Offering and Looking For...
nevermind, i ordered it with the hope that part 3 is on the same disc as parts 1 and 2. too bad no one's mentioned this interesting little item. i found out about it as i was looking up the 'ultumate collection' cd/dvd info. that one has the 1956 'stars of jazz' tv appearance - 3 songs. that's all new footage. -
does anyone know where i can find this Video info: Title: The Genius of Lady Day - Billie Holiday - Part 3: TV appearances and Clips Code: ErorFilms 2869029 Year: 2004 Mediumtype: DVD Total Time: 0h46'16'' or is part 3 on the same dvd as part one and part 2. thank you

i've never been able to get into the "2nd great quintet" material. some of shorter's tunes aren't bad/and some of them are quite good. but overall, that whole period doesn't do anything for me. the studio stuff on seven steps box is even weaker. i do like the 30+ minute tune on the 65-68 box. for miles' music, i prefer the 70's, especially live. really like his solos, his use of the wah-wah pedal, and the tunes themselves.
-
did riverside splice takes together? i don't think that even columbia did that with monk's releases. teo just cut out some bass and drum solos, which are now intact on at least some of the columbia re-issues. teo did all that work of cutting and pasting, especially with miles. and now, years later, we get the undoctored miles studio boxes, which, imo, is the way to go. i'm talking about the 1969-70's boxes. i still think that 60's miles is weak, and only starts to get interesting at the end of the silent way box.

need verve to release a box set of the verve/a&m material, without strings overdubs.
-
thanks for the replies. let's take it one step further. is it possible that some or all of the verve studio material has the orchestra overdubbed as well.
-
1985, first two tunes: stars fell on alabama days of wine and roses guitar, bass, drums. no 2nd guitarist.
-
as long as we are mentioning douglas, i've seen claims by him that he produced coltrane, but have not found anything to confirm this. is it possible that he confused coltrane with dolphy? he's another guy who's stories can't be trusted. as far as miles backing out, if that is what happened, it's possible that he was intimidated by hendrix' playing. that could be a first for miles.
-
Miles claims in his Autobiography that they met and played together. He describes how surprised he was when Jimi confessed not to be able to read music. >>>>>>>>> i think both of these stories are untrue. hendrix wouldn't haggle about money. and imo, miles would haggle about it just to get out of the session.

need sam rivers October 12, 1977 Nancy, France Image [42:45] w/byard lancaster, et al. contact me for trade list. thanks
-
rahsaan roland kirk played 1-2 min of this quite often at the end of some tunes in concert, mostly at the end of 'pedal up'. it can be heard at the end of pedal up on the bright moments lp.
-
i don't know cal. if you want to tell me the first 1-3 tunes on yours, i can check. i'm almost positive that there is no second guitarist on this show. i remember it has drums and bass. i don't think there is a piano.
-
would like to trade for a dub.
-
this one doesn't seem to be from the side. but it's a good possibility that we're talking about the same thing. but, he's from louisville, so it's possible that a fan videotaped him more than once.
-
there is a video that shouldn't be too hard to find louisville, ky 1985 80min what's nice about this video is that it's a private recording, the camera is in the front row, right in front of raney. and concentrates almost solely on raney and his guitar. excellent filming/camera angle.
