    Grant Green

yes, there's one of grant, burrell and barney kessell playing together in europe around 1970 or so I'd guess. It's on Jazz Guitar Masters Vol 1 or 2 (can't remember which one). Just one tune./ do you mean this one: "Legends of jazz guitar". Volume 2 i can't find anything under "Jazz Guitar Masters"

    Grant Green

are there videos of grant green?
  6. buy stan getz instead. but seriously, you would also have to get things like the alladin 2cd set, the 1956 washington dc volumes, and some other things in order to get a good representation of lester after his basie years.

    Larry Young

and that 'love cry want' thing is not for larry young fans. he's very much in the background on this session. that nicholas guy plays both guitar and keyboards, and pretty much dominates the whole session. young is not playing in his usual fluent style, probably at the request of nicholas, or to fit in with the quarky tunes. overall, there's not much more cacophony than on lifetime's emergency. i'm looking forward to hearing young's last recorded session "Double Exposure" (1977). a duet with joe chambers on piano and drums.
  8. from that first link, the little guy is casesta.
  9. from what i remember, there is no trumpet on the studio version of rated x.

    Larry Young

there are 2-3 good tunes on the aristas. live 1973 w/santana/mclaughlin are good shows, on which Young gets a lot of solo space. and some of the tw lifetime shows w/young are very good. at the very least, interesting. there are even outtakes from 'love devotion surrender', which are infinitely better than the actual lp. am not into his 60's stuff though. am looking to trade for a dub of mclaughlin 1970 "devotion" with young, rich, miles. offer is open to any kind hearted person.
  11. anyone know what year this was written, or released?
  12. This may be delayed while I work on the 6 minute version for one of our members. The Diz/Bird material is only a little over 40 minutes, >>>> ok, 40m. that's still a lot less than the amount released on philology a couple of years ago. can you point me to that 10 page thread chuck? half of the people here are excited only because it's on uptown. wow, uptown. bfd. i heard the mingus uptown, it's a novelty, and not much more. you want to be a hero? release one of the harder to find 1964 mingus european concerts. but i will admit that 40min of new parker is my cup of tea, to quote the english.
  13. You should never respond to a thread without READING it. you want me to read a 10 page thread? i skimmed through it. that's enough. i guarantee there wasn't such excitement made by these people about the philology stuff that i mentioned.
  14. a couple of years ago, philology released 1-2 hours of new parker. i don't remember a thread about that. and this is what, 6 minutes? priorities, priorities.
  15. that sucks.
  16. maybe they did a bad transfer when they manufactured the dvd. i have the vhs, and it's really not that bad. although, i watch only the kirk portion, and can't speak for the quality of the rest of the videotape.
  17. you could just get a hard copy of the fantasy catalog, which includes pablo releases with personnel, and tunes.
  18. the 1-2 minutes of kirk playing 'three for the festival' is fine by me.
  19. hardbop, soulstation, aricefron. 18 year old morons who don't know shit about the music. there are older people here who fit that description, but we'll save that for another time.
  20. just to clarify, the company was not selling the episodes. maybe for festival showings, etc.
  21. yes, it's the same soul tv shows. net-tv, nyc. hosted by Ellis Haizlip. a company had acquired all the episodes, and had like 20-30 listed on their webiste, with details for each show. it was mostly soul music, but quite a bit of jazz episodes as well.
  22. i have a couple of questions. there was a weblink of a library, or organization that had all the nyc net 'soul tv' shows listed from the 60's/70's. can anyone supply that link. also, does the drummer bob moses hum along to his playing sometimes, kind of like bud powell. thanks
  23. Italian triple LP set, "Don Ayler in Florence 1981" i would like to trade for cdr's of these if anyone has them. thanks
  24. i found what i think i was looking for at http://ayler0.tripod.com/html/what_s_new.html "Two Brothers" it mentions only one release by don: Italian triple LP set, "Don Ayler in Florence 1981" i would like to trade for cdr's of these if anyone has them. thanks
