Another vote for Tom Cat, although The Rajah should at least be reissued. It's a crime that a Lee and Hank date should be so hard to find. Somebody ought to be arrested!

Alright, it was a few days ago by now, but the show's still on my mind. Nice to hear him play on the new Steinway they had, Nasheet Waits was AMAZING to watch live (his playing came across much better here than on the Bandwagon CD), although in his louder moments he could drown out everyone else (not sure if it was his fault. The room picked up the drums more than anything else). Even managed to talk to him a bit after the show (yeah, we're buds. Dropped by my pad for beer after the show. Well, not really). Had to ask him if Ringing My Phone (agree with Quincy on that performance) was actually scored. It was. Could I see it? No. Ah well, he's a nice guy anyway. (Managed to name drop this site, maybe he's lurking somewhere?). Quincy, you another member in this 'burg? One by one, we're taking over.

Weren't they "Aaah...hell"?

Still digesting what I heard tonight, but man what a show. Some Elllington, Andrew Hill, A. Bambataa, Byard, Brahms. Pretty similar to the Bandwagon cd, but they stretched out (way out) on most of the tunes. The Brahms intermezzo was especially moving. What else do you need to know? If he's coming your way check him out.

Johnny and June get to duet again.

Congratulations! Nothing else will be as rewarding (except some well earned naps!)

Got this in anticipation of his upcoming show here. First I've heard by him, won't be the last.

French press, my favorite. Especially for brewing 2-3 cups of coffee.

Premium price?? Costco had it for $12.99. There are 2 discs (CD & DVD), but I think the list price is same as most single CDs. ($18.99 or $19.99) Checkout Deepdiscountcd.com for reasonalbe online prices.

Greendale has taken over my listening since I bought it earlier this week. I'm not going to say it's his best since (insert favorite classic Neil here), but it's pretty damn good. Lack of a DVD player has prevented me from hearing the acoustic set, and honestly, I resented having to pay a premium price to have it included (I found it on sale though, and snatched it up). However, after reading comments herein, I'm looking forward to giving it a listen. Grabbed On The Beach on the same spree. Somewhere it passed under my radar on All Things Neil. Glad it's been reissued!

Damn! Went to three shops before I found Bandwagon. Along the way found used copies of Back at the Chicken Shack and Caramba, along with Neil Young's Greendale and On The Beach on sale. I can't even go near a record shop now for awhile! The Moran disc sounds pretty good, but I'll have to give it a better listen to before I get more concise.

Baby's not due until beginning of Oct. And now that I think about it, the Moran show is risky too. This being our second, I've got a feeling she'll be early, and that show is a week before the due date. Damn! If only I'd known in Feb who'd been coming to town, planning would have been different. Two talents coming to town of this caliber within a month is a very rare thing.

Looks like my long halt on buying music ends today! Thanks for the suggestions. I'll post my impressions soon.

No big news here, just a place to bitch. Playing three shows, one with Masada(!!!), but I'm probably going to be attending the birth of my daughter. My wife isn't sympathetic, but someone here has to understand my disappointment (not that it's really a difficult choice, but still...This town has so little jazz that this is an event!). Oh well, Jason Moran is here next month. I'll be there for that!

He's coming to town soon and I'd like a chance to familiarize myself with some of his work, what to expect, etc. I don't know much about him, but too many people here rave about him for me to pass up a chance to see him. Thanks!

I wasn't a Neil Young fan until I heard Freedom . Up to that point I had never given anything of his a good listen to. Yeah, I'd heard 'Cinnamon Girl' and some of his other stuff on the radio, and I had a couple of friends who knew how to play 'I Am a Child (which they did, over and over enough to make anyone annoyed with Neil), but it wasn't enough to make attention. I had a roommate who was a fan, and I was starting to enjoy Live Rust when he brought home a copy of Freedom. 'Don't Cry' was, I think, the turning point. I had never heard anything so mournful (yeah, there's that word again) and explosive at the same time. I was hooked. Bought many of his albums and annoyed the neighbors. As for Ragged Glory , 'Country Home' is a tune that's been stuck in my head for a few weeks now, along with 'Over and Over'. But 'Love to Burn' is probably my favorite on the album. And I love the guitar playing. Simply stated and tuneful. Nothing overly flashy or speedy, just right. Bev was right to describe it as melodic. But NOISY! And I loves my noise. Didn't enjoy Mirrorball though.

I was going to say salty, but then I noticed I usually eat the ice cream around here faster than anyone else. Needless to say, Chubby Hubby ice cream is a work of inspired genius. And popcorn & M&M's.

To each his own I guess. Personally I think it was his best record in a long time. Trust me.

This one has slipped under my Neil Young radar somehow, but now that it's easier to find I think I'll be checking it out. Went through a phase a few years ago where anything by Neil was gold. Been slipping back into it lately. 'Ragged Glory' and 'Freedom' have taken over my CD player. Besides ONB, 'American Stars and Bars', 'Hawks and Doves' and 'Zuma' are all finally seeing the light of day on CD. All are worthy.

Saw Apocalypse Now Redux when it came through the local theater a few years back. I'd seen it before but on video and had the same reaction that some of you are having with The Godfather. This time the movie floored me for some reason. Didn't even mind sitting through the extra 30+ minutes of extra footage. But I've seen The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly more than any other single movie.

My brother and I used to practice in an old garage at a house we used to rent. Drums and guitar and a half inch of plywood to seperate the noise from the rest of the neighborhood. Once we ended up playing background music for a memorial service (unintentionally. One of the guests informed us of it after he came in to literally pull the plug) and we had our house "blessed" to "rid it of the demons that were within" by some roaming street lady with a bible in her hand. Gigs haven't been as interesting.
