  1. Wow, with all respect, I could not disagree more. I think a recording is a completely separate thing from a live gig. The process is not important to me; the finished product is what matters. And I don't care whether what I'm listening to meets the criteria for being "jazz." I want to hear good music. In fact, I consider Teo Macero to be a member of the band (Miles's band, not Erroll Garner's). I, sort of, agree with you except I don't know who decides what's "good music". You're being a little grumpy IMHO. BTW, I'm a fan of Concert By The Sea.
  2. Lethem gets a lot of grief here, but I really like Motherless Brooklyn. I also like Fortress Of Solitude.
  3. Hat & Shoes is excellent IMO.
  4. Try Sarah Jarosz!!
  5. Off topic, I guess, but I want Wendell Pierce to play Thelonious Monk in a film.
  6. Happy Valley - season 1, finally released on US format DVD!!
  7. Blues For The Viet Cong
  8. He's really good. I'm not sure he rises to the level of "piano giant" yet.
  9. Homeland - season 4
  10. I like Longmire too. The Craig Johnson novels are fun as well.
  11. I'm going to get both of those new CDs. The Mike Reed 482 CDs are all excellent IMHO.
  12. Keeps the game interesting IMHO.
  13. I also don't know if it matters that the Jost book is 40 years ago.
  14. Yeah, the "it's valid now that I've figured it out" thing, instead of the "ok, I get it now, wow, cool!" thing, that's why the homicidal impulse never really dies, it just recedes. As Cedric The Entertainer once said "it ain't that bad".
  15. No idea. Back to ignore.
  16. Dusty Groove now has this.
  17. I guess you had to be there. None of those seem to actually be released yet.
  18. Looks interesting. Anyone order from the label previously? Actually the label is called Stone Floor. Sorry!! www.stonefloorrecords.com
  19. going to see her this Saturday night with Michael Formanek & Tyshawn Sorey. New trio for her. I've seen her numerous times and she is a wonderful melodist. A highlight was a trio with Mat Maneri and Tyshawn. Very fine. She has a week at The Stone early next year and there are many interesting combinations. She is special. I like both Kris Davis & Angelica Sanchez - leader dates & side person albums.
  20. goo - gone I hate cracked CD cases.
  21. Ouch!! Apparently we don't agree on these. I thought Show Me A Hero was very good. Not The Wire, but still well done. I've only seen one episode of Public Morals. Will watch the 2nd episode tonight.
  22. I'll get that. Also went ahead and pre-ordered the Halvorson solo CD.
