Well the offer is up on the Mosaic site. For orders outside the US, they're deducting 50% of the shipping cost, BTW. I'm certainly no spokesman for Mosaic, but I'm guessing that at $39 for a Select, absorbing the $5 and change or whatever they charge for shipping eats up too much of the profit. I wonder though, if someone who wanted to buy 2 or more Selects might not be able to call Mosaic and ask if they'd extend the offer for multiple Selects. No harm in asking I suppose.

I guess the one thing that I was assuming that really was not addressed is whether you purchased the set from Mosaic or an authorized dealer. If you did, then it should be no problem. If you picked it up off ebay and it's either not numbered or a promo or one of those sets that can be had without box or booklet that some sellers offer then there will probably be trouble getting a replacement disc.

How long has it been since you contacted Mosaic? Did you use snail mail or e-mail? In either case, it is possible that they did not receive your communication. I would definitely try again. E-mail them using the feedback link on their website and explain your situation. Ask them if they would sell you a disc 2 because of your accident. The set is in print so this should not be a problem and chances are, they won't even charge you for it. Their customer service is excellent, so I betting that they did not receive your first communication. Good luck!

I've been at the same place from a physical standpoint for 24 years. I realize that's unusual in this day and age, but since my career path has taken me from staff member for 15 years to management for the last 9 I feel as if I've had two separate careers. At any rate, one of the benefits of this is that I am entitled to 37 paid days off a year.

I feel your pain - and confusion. My youngest son, now 7, has spent the better part of the last 3 years undergoing a battery of tests for behavior problems with ADHD being one of the suspected diagnoses. It turns out he does not have the condition, is very intelligent, easily bored with mundane things, responsive to challenging situations, and VERY active. His problems were related to another problem that has since cleared up and he is well on his way to success. Along the way, I learned a lot about psychologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, special education and school systems. Thankfully, I got hooked up with professionals to whom ADHD - while considered -was a diagnosis of last resort. When I first got an inkling that my son was having trouble at school and the word ADHD was mentioned, I immediately sought out my own psychologist to help my son and to serve as an advocate against inappropriately labelling him as ADHD. We actually visited three before coming up with someone whose philosophy met our expectations - someone who we were confident would not settle for an ADHD diagnosis without exploring all avenues. Through working with our own child psychologist, the teachers and counselors in school and the various consulatants along the way, we've been able to come up with a program that keeps my son stimulated and interested. When he veers off course, he's got a great teacher who's very supportive and views my son as more of a free spirit than a problem. The lesson I learned from experience and conversing with the various doctors and consultants was that the diagnosis of ADHD and the initiation of drug therapy are very serious. Others have mentioned it above, but the diagnosis should not be taken at face value. A second or third opinion might be needed. Some psychologists tend to diagnose ADHD more frequently than others. I don't know if your particular pschologist leans toward this diagnosis or not, but I would not accept the diagnosis without additional opinions.

Yep. only four last year - but there were a bunch of French releases that I picked up that would definitely be considered Rare Grooves. Nat Adderley's the Soul of the Bible, Ronnie Foster's Sweet Revival, Eddie Gale's Black Rhythm Happening, Gene Harris - Nexus, Alphonse Mouzon's Mind Transplant and Grant Green's the Final Comedown were the ones I ordered - but there were a whole bunch more. Add to that the summer release of those Latin Jazz albums and it was a kick-ass year for groovin' music.

I'm a big fan of the Rare Groove series and had begun to look at a release of Rare Grooves as a rite of summer for the past 3 or 4 years. Looks like they may not be doing a release this year though - too bad. All good suggestions above. I guess I'll have to be content with the Reuben Wilson that's coming out on Water (already have the Pearson on the Select)

When I emailed Fred with the pricing that they were originally listed at - which was $37 and change - he responded to me that he could not understand how or why they could sell them at that price as ir is very very close to the price that retailers are being charged for the set. I'm guessing that the newer $35.85 price gives the m little if any profit. I realize that this is standard procedure for CD Universe and that the price will rise a couple of days after release - so get 'em while they're hot. That is a great price. I agree completely. It was hilarious in retrospect. I hung out there longer than most, so GOM's description of posters running amok has me laughing as I type the words. Greg was taking on all comers, swinging with both fists as the stern slipped below the surface. What a study in human nature. It was tough to see a community of which I was a part for some 5 years circle the drain. The whole thing was public relations disaster. Since the days of the Blue Note Bulletin Board and probably before, Blue Note fans have been hoping that the rejected Tyrone Washington session now known as "The Train Wreck" would be released. As you know, BN has been known to mine the vaults and issue things that had previously been deemed unsuitable for release. When asked about this particular session, Michael Cuscuna said it was unreleasable and referred to it as "a train wreck of avante garde nothingness" or something like that. Despite his appraisal at the time - and knowing that he sometimes changes his mind about such things - Blue Note devotees still hope that someday we will get to hear this session. The cover is one that one of the boardmembers skilled in photoshop or whatever program created for the benefit og boardmembers. So while the session was never released, the Train Wreck name has taken on a life of its own.

I have a hand written list of partial sets that were available about 4 years ago penned by none other than Scott Wenzel himself. I'm not looking to sell it but I might just part with it if the right offer comes along. PM me if interested. And please don't insult me with a low-ball offer.

I guess the availability of this material from other sources really effected sales. I have had both sets for a couple of years and mine are numbered around 1200. I remember a number of posters raising eyebrows over Mosaic putting this stuff out - and with ALL those alternates. I think I had only the Young Lions disc prior to picking these up so I was glad Mosaic did these. The alternates are not an issue with me either but I'm sure they influenced some potential buyers negatively. Seems like both of these will end up under 2000. That's a shame because of the artists involved and the quality of both the music and sound..

Lorraine Desmarais. She's a pianist that I've seen numerous times over the years at the Montréal Jazz Festival. She's pretty well known and respected in Canada - particularly Montréal. Judging by the reaction to Barbara Dennerlein elsewhere on the board, perhaps she fits into this category as well.
