A grand isn't very much for good sounding full size speakers. All I can say is don't buy low end Paradigm speakers. They sound like crap. I have B&W's, and they sound good. But they retailed for 1800 bucks 13 years ago.

You're gonna love it! I just finished listening to Put Up The Fight. Another great record, but quite different from Strange Brothers. It's more diverse stylistically, and the first tune is a rather jolting contrast to the sound of Strange Brothers. But once you get in the groove, it's a great listen. John Tchicai will be missed. RIP

Just got this from Jazz Loft. Disc one contains the 1977 album John Tchicai And Strange Brothers. Disc two contains the 1987 album Put Up The Fight. Strange Brothers was recorded live/studio and sounds fantastic! A two sax quartet. I haven't played disc two yet.

I've owned a copy of Bitches Brew for 20 years, but I still don't love it. In A Silent Way is the electric album I play the most. But honestly, I'm more interested in the 60s quintet stuff. That's the best Miles for my ears.Mingus Presents Mingus is another one I've owned for years, but still haven't warmed to. It's universally praised by the critics, but I've always preferred Mingus At Antibes.I'm not a big fan of Black Saint and the Sinner Lady either. I've tried for years, but could never get into it. Now as far as an album that I finally got into after a while, it would be Frank Zappa's Shut Up 'N' Play Yer Guitar. I almost sold my vinyl copies in the 80s, but then decided to keep listening. It has now become one of the most listened to albums in my entire collection.

How many musicians do you know that use a fashion coordinator? Probably a good idea when the label is paying for a photo session.

I recently picked up the cheap Sony box by Paul Crossley. This sounds great to my ears!

Who the hell is in charge of Stern's cover shoots? The latest album is the worst. He's been wearing the same black clothes and stringy hair for the past 20 + years. He's had those same clothes on every time I've seen him play live. No need for a suitcase!

I used to buy Stern records, but they all sound pretty much the same. He's a consistently great player, and a good writer too, but after five or six albums I'd had my fill. If I had to pick one album to keep, it would be 1991's Odds Or Evens. Every tune is great!

Classic Arts Showcase channel featured Segovia performing Albeniz yesterday. He was well into his 80s at the time, but his technique was absolutely flawless.

There won't be a booklet in that set. There aren't in any of those cheap Sony boxes. I've already got about 6 of the 11 CDs so I'll be skipping that one.

I have his piano album, and I'd say he's one hell of a pianist! I've always liked his drum sound and well balanced playing. Jack, along with Peter Erskine is one of my favorites.

I have the Polskie Nagrania reissue of Zbigniew Namyslowski's Winobranie album. Great stuff! Grooves Inc has good prices on Polish jazz.

I am new to Nielsen, which is why I made a minimal investment in the Brilliant Classics set. I've had good luck with some of their other sets by Henze, and Debussy. But I haven't listened to the Nielsen set yet. i'm not really a late romantic symphony fan, but I thought I'd give him a try. I'm more a fan of modern symphonies by Honegger, Hartmann, Schnittke, Lutoslawski, William Schuman, and the Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of Sallinen's symphonies and concertos box on the CPO label.
