  1. Have not heard the 3 x 4, wasn't sure what to make of it at this late date, but will look to pick it up based on your recommendation. I have all four of the boxes you mention. the L.A. box is very worthwhile, thought not at extreme prices. Worth waiting for one priced decently.
  2. Landmark reissue when the 2LP set coame out in the early 70's. We owe a LOT to that set and Lenny Kaye, as the whole garage rediscovery (one of my great joys) was fueled by it. Plus it's just a great listen! And the box set and some of the followup box sets are great, too. "Children of Nuggets" led me to the whole Paisley Underground scene, which I also love.
  3. + labor, I assume. Would that be like another $100 or so?
  4. Any SWAG estimates on total cost for that job?
  5. Try a list here and see how you do. Start with a smaller list and see if it is worth your while. Look at the "Offering and Looking For" topic, and you'll see that attractive items do sell if priced well. Much of what kills selling online is (ever rising) shipping costs, and a concentrated audience here means people may buy multiple CD's from you, saving on unit postage for all involved. You can see on Ebay history that CD's do still sell, it just takes some work. Book and CD brick and mortar stores in general are dinosaurish. I live in King of Prussia, with a massive, 400+ store mall. Not a single store in that mall sells books or CD's, nor do any stores in the surrounding community. To all, does somewhere like Dusty Groove still pay decently for used CD's?
  6. Time for us to buy a car. We always buy Honda Accords, and they stopped including CD players in 2018, so we are looking for a low-mileage 2016 or 2017, and know this will be our last car with a CD player. They started including XM radio with the 2019's, which would be an acceptable substitute for me, but my wife loves having a CD play for trips. I feel very old these days.
  7. Well, it's what you hear being spoken if you play the original acetate of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" backwards.
  8. Better World Books takes donations, sells online, provides to schools, recycles where appropriate, etc.Recently gave them several hundred books. Goodwill has a huge presence on Ebay reselling used CD's and DVD's, so I imagine they will gladly take those donations (I'll find out firsthand soon).
  9. I really enjoy going back to my chosen era and discovering things that were not widely heard then. There was too much good stuff all at once then for it all to be absorbed. Currently listening to and greatly enjoying this. I appreciate mid-50's (the rock pioneers, especially Buddy Holly) through the 80's (especially U2, REM), but concentrate on British Invasion through dawn of Punk.
  10. Love where Ravi Shankar acknowledges the early rapturous applause, saying something like "Thank you very much, and if you enjoyed our tuning up this much, we think you'll really like our performance".

  12. To me, their masterpiece. For "Long Train Runnin", but also for some of the relatively obscure tunes, "Clear as the Driven Snow", "Busted Down Around O'Connelly Corners/Ukiah" (they segue perfectly), and the title tune.
  13. I also noticed that over past couple of years. Like those sets for checking out artists I skipped over back in the day. BGO down to quarterly release schedule. Had been monthly. And recent releases lean heavily to C&W market. A loss for us, they did nice work for many years. Strangely, Cherry Red is going full blazes with nice stuff.
  14. Andorran label, I believe, which has implications.
  15. ca. 1991. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/81585/barney-wilen/live-in-tokyo-91?search_query=barney+wilen&results=40
  16. Gotta love any BFT that features both Hannibal Peterson and Billy Harper! I have those two plus the Cyrille "My Friend Louis" album and the Waldron. Some thoughts on other selections: 2 - Really like this, look forward to the reveal. Wonder if I have it, and if I don't , how much it's gonna cost me . Kosuke Mine? 6 - Title track from Mal Waldron's "The Call". Fascinating stuff if you're into it. I am. Originally a German release on JAPO. 14 - I'm usually totally in step with my friend Thom, but I actually like this one quite a bit. Wonder if I don't have it sitting on the shelves already. Look forward to the reveal, or to someone ID'ing it. Great BFT, though it probably does run long. FWIW, I used to keep mine to one 80-minute disc. Really looking forward to those reveals, especially on #'s 2 and 14.
  17. I have Root Down, and appreciate it. Not aware of the others. Man, he recorded a LOT of albums in the 50's and 60's!
  18. I have two genre sections, one for jazz and one for everything else (I don't do classical). CTI is a really good idea for segregating, and Mainstream would make sense for me. Savoy sort of mixes in with Prestige, Riverside, etc. for me.
  19. I file my 30's-70's Blue Notes separately from my main jazz shelves. Do the same with Strata-East and Black Jazz. Cases where I mostly identify with the label more strongly than with the artists.
  20. I like Williams's 60's Columbia work quite a bit. Have some on shelf with Sinatra's 50's Capitol albums and some early Johnny Mathis. As far as the wardrobe change, I think some sweet green icing had melted onto the black tux
